My parents 1st viewed GM in Oct/Nov 2025 with a view to moving in from living at home with carers. Eventually they moved with only 3 days notice and GM couldn't be more accomodating. After 2 weeks respite they have decided to stay permanently, and as a family we couldn't be happier with the care and
staff. I've never experienced a home like it - feels like luxury living with excellent care. My parents still feel independant whilst fully cared for. They feel safe and happy - what more could we ask. Thanks to the team at GM who couldn't do more.

Absolutely fabulous home, from manager to staff in all areas are truly amazing. They also took care of our personal needs due to the loss of my mum at Christmas & dad needing emergency accommodation due to his health needs. They made this painful transition with dad, warmly, caring, personal in every
way. I'm truly grateful to Goldsborough Manor & this fantastic team, thanks to Lance (manager) staff, Leah, Lily, Ruth, Alisha, Susie, the chef, you are all amazing with my dad & both myself & my sister.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.964)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.964) out of 10 for Goldsborough Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 46 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.964 for Goldsborough Manor is calculated as follows: ( (530 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 549 Ratings = 4.964
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Goldsborough Manor is based on 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 46 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

It is very important for me to provide a high standard of care and support my residents with daily life tasks to promote their independence, health and happiness. It's very important for me that the people who are working with me feel supported, too.

Job Title: Unit manager Joined: 2026

My name is Roxy, and my 20-year journey in healthcare began at York Hospital for 18 years, where I worked in frontline healthcare roles alongside administration and discharge liaison. Supporting patients directly, coordinating safe discharges, and working closely with multidisciplinary teams gave me a strong clinical foundation and a deep understanding of person-centred care.

I later joined Goldsborough Manor as a Senior Carer, supporting elderly and dementia residents with dignity, compassion, and professionalism. Holding Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications in Health and Social Care, I have continued to develop my knowledge and leadership skills. Now promoted to Unit Manager, I am proud to lead a team dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality care while creating a warm, supportive environment where residents truly feel at home.

Job Title: Ambassador Joined: 2024

I was born in York and have loved the City and its history all my life.

I have a son and a daughter, and I love being a granny.

I went to the University of York as a mature student and studied Social Policy.

My main jobs have been in banking, working for the Local Government Ombudsman and for York’s MP.

I was elected to the City of York Council in 2015 and last year was honoured to be selected to be Lord Mayor. In this role, I met so many amazing people who have made York the truly wonderful city it is.

I had a stroke in 2020, leaving me with a weakened left side and a determination to show that everyone can live their best life.

It was a privilege to be asked to become an Ambassador of Goldsborough and be part of the caring Team here, and being able to talk to the people who live here and their friends and family.
