My friend is currently residing at Beaumont House in Hucknall and has recently lost her husband who was also in the home (next door to her). The funeral was yesterday (3rd March) and a nurse was with my friend to comfort her and look after her and we were very impressed with how she treated my friend
with compassion, she was very professional and I'm sure it took a huge weight off her children and friends, knowing she was treated with dignity and respect.
I fear my friend has not got long to live, but I am comforted knowing she will be well looked after.

My mum and her close friend have both been resident at Clarence House Care Home for 6 months, they are both completely happy and have no complaints whatsoever. The home and rooms are kept spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable. The food is outstanding. They both constantly tell me they want for nothing.
All the staff deserve a big pat on the back, their professionalism, kindness and care go above and beyond. I have no hesitation in giving 5 stars and recommending Clarence House to anyone who might have any doubts.

I feel it's important to share our experience, as we've had several ongoing concerns. Communication from management is often dismissive and lacks empathy, which is upsetting when raising issues about a loved one's care.
Staffing levels appear low, with a heavy reliance on agency staff rather than consistent
full-time carers. This affects continuity and the overall quality of care. We have also witnessed some staff speaking to residents in a way that feels disrespectful, which is very concerning.
Food options are limited, and portion sizes are small. In addition, the home itself would benefit from investment and general improvements.
While there are some caring individuals, overall standards need significant improvement.

This home offers passionate, genuine care - staff are so nice and take time to see how you are as well as the resident. There's lots of stimulating activities and the home welcomes family to come along and be involved. The rooms are kept very clean and the home is tastefully decorated - it is ideally
situated on a bus route as well as having parking and the residents enjoy looking out and watching the busy street, school children and passers by from the cozy lounge.
Reply from Tracey Oliver, Home Manager at St James Court Care HomeThankyou so much for your lovely review. This really does mean a lot. I'm so glad you have mentioned our activities team as they are thriving and going from strength to strength. Please continue to keep an eye out for all the plans we have made for throughout the year.. I will off course pass on your kind words to all staff. Kind words do go along way and the staff do thoroughly deserve the recognition they receive. Once again thankyou and take care.

My mum has been in St James since December 2025 initially for respite care after an unsafe discharge from hospital. Not knowing where to turn to, St James was recommended by a friend. The management team visited mum at home and made my decision a lot easier, reassuring me I was doing the right thing
and mum would be safe and well looked after.
The whole team are friendly, helpful, accommodating and very caring with mum, despite her numerous requests for baths and different menu items.
Since December we have seen mum improve and is becoming more confident and joining in with the activities St James organise.
Thank you all for looking after mum and helping me, your support has been much appreciated and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend St James Court.

Claremont House Care Home

from Alison K (Daughter of Resident) published on 10 April 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My dad went into Claremont after falling and breaking his hip. We had tried 24/7 care at home with carers and family/friends but we were all exhausted. We initially wanted to avoid a care home as we all had an image of care homes 20 years ago. We visited 5 care homes in total but as soon as me and my
sister went into Claremont and met the staff, we knew we had found the right one for dad. Care homes have certainly changed from the image we had! We both said 'it felt like a hug'. Our instincts were completely right as Dad has settled so well due to the care he has received from the amazing staff. We were encouraged to make dad's room his own and staff listened to us and took on board lots about dad so that they could form a relationship with him when he arrived. We were initially looking at respite only, but Dad and ourselves are now discussing it being a permanent move as he is so happy and settled. Thank you to all the staff - you made a difficult decision so much easier.

Respectful, kind staff very supportive. I have capacity and I have good days and bad days, the staff are always respectful of my wishes, whilst encouraging me to eat, take medication but understand if I don't. Beautiful room, kept immaculately clean by housekeeping staff who always have a chat and smile
for me if I'm awake.

My mother has only recently become a resident of Holyrood House.
As a family and in consultation with my mother, we can not find any fault.
Communication is always open and friendly. We feel listened to and totally supported.

Holyrood House Care Home

I cannot speak highly enough of the care provided by this home. From the very beginning, every member of staff showed genuine compassion, kindness, and professionalism. The level of care was truly exceptional, and it was clear that the wellbeing and dignity of residents were always the top priority.

Communication

throughout was excellent. Staff kept us informed, listened with empathy, and always made time to answer questions or offer reassurance. This meant so much to us as a family.

In the final stages, when care mattered most, the team went above and beyond to ensure comfort, dignity, and respect at end of life. Their compassion and sensitivity during such a difficult time will never be forgotten.

We are incredibly grateful to every member of the team and cannot thank them enough for the care and support they provided.

Reply from Julia Davison, Home manager at Holyrood House Care HomeThank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to write this at this very sad time for you and your mum. We all enjoyed looking after your dad and certainly notice his absence. If you are ever passing feel free to call in for a cuppa.

Highgrove Residential Home

Utterly let down by this 'care' home.
Failed my mam, unsupportive of her needs, challenging her when she is sun downing! Totally escalating the issue rather than being professional, calm and caring.
They say they are very experienced with alzheimers and sun downing - not.
Karen is a fabulous, caring,
kind but other managers are childish, unprofessional and uncaring.
Have received threat after threat from management re fees and the threat of a 28 day notice which they are now about to issue!
Dont get old, infirm, the future is diabolical
Heartbroken for my poor mam
Reply from Angela Moore, Manager at Highgrove Residential HomeWe are very sorry to read your review about your experience and to hear how upset you are about your mum's experience. This is not the standard of care we aim to provide, and we take concerns like this extremely seriously.

We are proud of our team and the care they provide in sometimes challenging circumstances. We would want to fully understand what has happened here.
Supporting residents living with Alzheimer's, including during periods of sundowning, requires patience, understanding and specialist care, and we are sorry to hear that this has not been your experience. We also understand how distressing conversations around fees and notices can be, during an already difficult time, we are sorry if this has added to your worry.

Please could we ask you to contact us directly so we can fully investigate your concerns and work towards resolving this for you. Your feedback is important to us, and we are committed to ensuring all residents receive the care & dignity they deserve.
