As soon as we walked in to our first visit at st James we felt a warmth of welcome from all the team, and we really felt we had found the right place for mum.
Tracy and the team could not have done more to welcome mum, support her in personalising her room, welcoming her to activities and recognising
and providing her preferences and care/medical needs in a joined up way.
They have answered all our questions and welcomed our visits.
We cannot recommend st James highly enough as a warm, caring and professional care home where we can relax knowing mum is in safe hands (and mum feels like she's on a five star holiday!)
Reply from Catherine Jane Erdelyi Holmes, Regional Manager at St James Court Care HomeThank you for taking the time to give Tracey and her team such a glowing review, after all it is so important that we get things right for each person that comes over our threshold. It is a great relief to know we have got it right for you all.

We never thought mum would agree to a care home but after a couple of falls she suddenly realised that a care home was what she needed so we set off the journey to find a suitable one.
As a family we had never had to do this so it was a totally new learning curve.
From the very first phone contact
we were treated with compassion and professionalism and a touch of Barnsley humour.
The initial look around was top class, the staff made time to really get to understand our needs. The visit to mum was well planned and structured - after the visit all mum could talk about was how friendly they were and how exciting it was. Coming from someone who always said she never wanted to live in a care home that was something else.
It was great to be able to set up mums room before she arrived to give it a familiar feel. The staff bent over backwards to support us
Mum arrived very late in the day (delayed hospital transport) but still recieved and very warm welcome
Since then mum smiles constantly
Reply from Tracey Oliver, Home Manager at St James Court Care HomeI cant thank you enough for this lovely review. From our initial chats on the phone enquiring about care homes, to the pre-assessment to your mum residing with us you have done nothing but praise the home, all the staff and constantly tell us how much you appreciate us all and that you couldn't imagine your mum been else where. Can I just say your mum is a breath of fresh air and we are so glad that we can call her and yourselves part of the St James family. Thankyou once again and I will be sure to pass it around to all the staff as they do deserve the recognition and praise for there continued hard work and dedication, this is just not a job to them they generally do care.

My dad was ill with a chest infection and ended up having 3 falls in as many days. The doctor requested a chest X-ray, and he ended up being kept in hospital for physio. We noticed a rapid deterioration in his health and mood and I tried desperately to get him back to St James. Thankfully they agreed
late in the day to accept my dad back requiring more assistance than the hospitals goal for him. Had St James not agreed to accept dad back needing assistance of 2 whilst ill we believe he would not be here now. In essence they saved his life.
Reply from Tracey Oliver, Home Manager at St James Court Care HomeThank you so much for your kind work, I particularly remember the day you have spoken about and I agree 100% he needed to be home with us asap. And what a transformation his mood lifted almost straight away and he was just generally happy to be back with us. All of you as a family are the most warmest and thankful family and state every time you visit how appreciated you all are. thankyou once again.

This home offers passionate, genuine care - staff are so nice and take time to see how you are as well as the resident. There's lots of stimulating activities and the home welcomes family to come along and be involved. The rooms are kept very clean and the home is tastefully decorated - it is ideally
situated on a bus route as well as having parking and the residents enjoy looking out and watching the busy street, school children and passers by from the cozy lounge.
Reply from Tracey Oliver, Home Manager at St James Court Care HomeThankyou so much for your lovely review. This really does mean a lot. I'm so glad you have mentioned our activities team as they are thriving and going from strength to strength. Please continue to keep an eye out for all the plans we have made for throughout the year.. I will off course pass on your kind words to all staff. Kind words do go along way and the staff do thoroughly deserve the recognition they receive. Once again thankyou and take care.

My mum has been in St James since December 2025 initially for respite care after an unsafe discharge from hospital. Not knowing where to turn to, St James was recommended by a friend. The management team visited mum at home and made my decision a lot easier, reassuring me I was doing the right thing
and mum would be safe and well looked after.
The whole team are friendly, helpful, accommodating and very caring with mum, despite her numerous requests for baths and different menu items.
Since December we have seen mum improve and is becoming more confident and joining in with the activities St James organise.
Thank you all for looking after mum and helping me, your support has been much appreciated and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend St James Court.
Reply from Tracey Oliver, Home Manager at St James Court Care HomeThankyou so much for your kind words, its so nice to know all staff are recognised for their continued hard work. I will definitely let all staff know how appreciated they all. Once again thankyou.

Mum came in for 2 days, day care in March and was really pleased with her time there. Loads of activities to do and attentive staff. One of her requests was to have a bath during her time in the home, as she only has a shower at home. The staff were very understanding of this and assisted with her needs.
Reply from Tracey Oliver, Home Manager at St James Court Care HomeThankyou for your kind words , it means a lot to know that we made your mum happy in the 2 days she visited for day care. She was a pleasure to have stay with us. I will be sure to let all the staff know about this review. Once again thankyou

My Aunt has been in the Care home for around 2.5 months initially for 10 Days respite and due to her health we've needed to keep extending her stay. As a family, we know she is safe in the care home, is well looked after physically and there's a great program of enriching activities for her to join
if she would like to. The care team are fantastic and from the moment we arrived at the care home (7pm on a cold dark rainy evening) my Aunt and all family members always receive a warm welcome. It's a lovely care home where the carers really do care for their residents, thank you for all you do.

I have been here since early December 25 and was made to feel welcome as soon as I arrived from hospital. There are activities available if I want to go to them. Sometimes at breakfast time, they seem short of staff, and I have to wait for my breakfast. The menu for meals isn't always as advertised.
But on the whole, I am highly satisfied.
Reply from Tracey Oliver, Home Manager at St James Court Care HomeThankyou for your kinds words. Your a breath of fresh air and your Barnsley banter is second to none, which we love about you.
I will be sure to pass on your appreciation on to all the staff, but if you feel you ever need anything please don't hesitate to pop in the office and have a chat. From a lady who was only originally coming in for a few weeks respite prior to Christmas to extending your stays it surely says we are doing something right.

My Dad has been a resident at St James's Court for just over 18 months and I could not be happier with his care. Dad has gone from having two children look out for him to having many more, as the staff treat everyone like their own. Dad is in a safe and understanding environment, so much so that he
doesn't want to leave. I cannot praise the staff enough, they treat him with respect and kindness. I live abroad and I never worry when I leave him for several weeks at a time. We made the most amazing memories over the Christmas period thanks to the staff at the home - a chance I never thought we'd get again due to his dementia.
Reply from Tracey Oliver, Home Manager at St James Court Care HomeThankyou for your lovely review, Not only have you taken your time to write this review but also when you visit you express how grateful you all are and i cant tell you how much it means to us all. I am so happy you had a lovely Christmas with your dad making memories. Once again thankyou and i will be sure to let all the staff know your appreciation.

Mum was only here for 5 yours before she became v aggressive with staff and residents,, the manager was very professional and was able to calm her and realised that she needed specialist medical care that had not been assessed or addressed at her previous home. The care home rang for an ambulance
and she was admitted to hospital.
Our family are very grateful for the understanding care and professional, non judgemental attitude of the care home manager and staff, and would like,e to praise the home for their management of mums condition , it was their swift intervention in getting mum into hospital where she was assessed ,which led to her ultimately being placed in a home that could safely manage her complex needs.
Reply from Tracey Oliver, Home Manager at St James Court Care HomeThankyou so much, can i just say it was a pleasure meeting you all and getting to know you all in such a short amount of time, i just wish things could have turned out a little different for you all, but unfortunately it wasn't meant to be. I'm glad your mum was able to receive the care she deserved. And has a family we want to wish you all the best in the future. Our Mum arrived at St James in July 2025 and stayed with them until she passed away in November 2025.
The care she received was excellent in every respect.
The care home was well maintained and was clean and didn't smell.
The meals were amazing, with lots of choice. There was also access to a kitchen
area where we could make a drink for Mum, which made it feel more of a normal visit to be able to share a cuppa like we did at home.
There were activities during the day and evening.
Mum was well looked after, she was washed every day and showered every couple of days at her choosing. She was changed out of night ware and in to clean day clothes every day.
The staff interacted well with her, taking the time to chat and inquire about her life, they had fun and there was lots of laughter. They also treated her with dignity and respect and kept her safe.
The care at the end of Mums life was amazing. Regular checking in on Mum, but also us, to make sure we were coping. Thankyou to staff

Speaking as the son of a resident - & appreciating that I have no experience of other care homes - I have found St James Court (SJC) to be an extremely pleasant place for my Mum to reside. The staff have been fantastic with my Dad & I, who have been supporting my Mum as she settles into a new way of
life. Whilst we are still finding our feet at SJC, I am more than comfortable with the early signs. Thank you to everyone who is caring for my Mum.

I can't believe how good this place is. The staff are so passionate about their job everyone has been so kind and caring towards my mother, they now feel as they are part of our family. They all go above and beyond what they do and nothing is too much trouble for them. We went in one day and a member
of staff was on her knees at the side of the bed talking with my mother and holding her hand. I could go on forever praising the staff for how they are. The meals are outstanding there is a dining room the tables all have table cloths and napkins unlike some nursing homes who just have a bare table with cutlery on things like this just makes it so homely for the residents. The cleanliness is yet again outstanding. We are so glad/happy that we found this place, we can rest at night knowing that our mother who we love so much is getting the best care that she deserves at the age of 89.
I do say to people who ask how my mother is that its like a luxury London hotel. I would 100% recommend this place.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all involved.

(1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
