From walking through the door the place is airy, bright and clean. Mum's room is bright and spotlessly cleaned and her laundry is done and returned on a daily basis. The food is of a high quality and standard with a choice at each sitting which she can have in her room or dining room. The lounges are decorated beautifully and there are activities or entertainment for the residents every day of the week (Mum has her hair done weekly by the visiting hairdresser). The carers who look after my mum are diamonds - I can never thank them enough for the way they take care of her each day - no matter which shift is on they are equally compassionate, friendly, funny and respectful towards her. All of the team at St James are to be commended for the work they do, in every department.

Nothing is too much trouble, from preparing simple meals on request to accompanied visits to the dentist. All staff, without exception, are wonderfully caring. Management always reacts positively to requests, for example, to seek solutions to keep Mum safe as she tries to do things for herself and puts herself at risk of falling.

I cannot express my gratitude to all the staff, including front of house, for being front line in terms of delivering care, but also to all the staff that you don’t see who support your family’s loved ones during their time there. Before I go, from the bottom of my heart I would again like to thank all the staff that supported my grandfather and my family, thank you.

My father went to St James Care Home, after always saying never to put him in a care home ('dreadful places'). What a turnaround, from day one he was treated like royalty. The staff were fantastic, from care staff to cleaners and kitchen staff. They were so kind and attentive, not only to Dad but me too, always checking I was coping with the situation (Dad was here for end of life care). The last five weeks were the best he had over the last nine months or so. He adored the home and more so the staff, which in turn made my final days with Dad a lot less stressful. I can’t thank you all enough and, in time, if I have to go in a home, I’ve told my sons this is the place for me.

Mum has been a resident at St James for a few weeks now, and I can’t speak highly enough of the care she has received. The entire staff, from the manager to the cleaners and cooks, are outstanding. The care, compassion and dignity shown to the residents are exemplary and humbling, and you couldn’t wish for more. I visit most days, and it is such a happy place, and nothing is too much trouble, and they care for us as well as Mum. An amazing place, full of people doing an amazing job.

At first, I was very worried about having to go into residential care, but I definitely did not need to worry. The staff are wonderful, caring and compassionate. Nothing was too much trouble. My only concern was the food, but that was rectified straight away. The management was fantastic, and I was told if I need anything, I just had to ask. Having my hair washed in a shower was fantastic, and I'd been having bed baths for two years. 5-stars.

I simply cannot thank the staff of St James enough for taking care of Dad. Resident now for 4-years, despite some health issues, he is one very happy gentleman often referring to St James as "being on a cruise ship!". The excellent meals, smiles, chat and regular entertainment definitely reflect this comment! Living away as I do, the relief of knowing he is in safe hands during the week and happy cannot be thanked enough.

My mum was in for a week's respite whilst we were away. Her care requirements were discussed with us extensively prior to her stay. This put us at ease and assured us she would have the best care during her stay. Staff were helpful and informative when we phoned to see how my mum was getting on and reassured us she was happy and being well cared for. She enjoyed her stay especially the activities organised for residents. We would have no hesitation in letting her stay again.

The staff have gone out of their way to make sure my brother settled in, and we were all amazed at how well he integrated into the home. He enjoys the activities and loves the food. It has been such a relief for me and my sister. We feel like we can visit him now and can sit to have a conversation with him, instead of spending time cleaning and chasing around to sort things.

Meals I am told on the whole are good, (although there was a recent period of poor quality meals), it is perhaps just a need to encourage more socialising that is needed as days can be very long where visits are limited.

No child wants to put their parent in a care home, but when there is no other option, thank God for places like St James. The staff are dedicated and friendly with person-centred ethics.

We have been very pleased and satisfied with the care given during the last three years. The home is modern, and the building is well looked after. The cleanliness of the room could have been better, at times very dirty! There is a good team of staff. We have seen two managers within this time, and they have always left because they were not provided what was promised when they start. The end of life care was excellent, thank you.

I can say no more than the care and attention I received during my stay was second to none. The food was excellent, the rooms very clean. I am only staying here to recover from a hip operation, but if I ever have to go into a care home, St James Court would certainly be my first choice.

I was treated brilliantly by everyone. I was made to feel at ease and nothing was too much trouble. Whatever they get paid, it should be doubled. Couldn't wish for better care.

The team at St James took excellent care of mum, from the moment she was welcomed in she became part of the family. Sadly, Mum has passed away under the most difficult of times, but this was managed with compassion, and we were allowed to spend precious time with her whilst keeping everyone else safe. Mums comfort and care were always at the forefront and every call we were kept informed, and when possible able to speak to her, which made a huge difference. As a family, we are so grateful that we chose St James as it gave us peace of mind knowing who she was with and was so cared for. We will be forever thankful, and on Mums last day, the team made the most awful day that little bit easier and so dignified. Thank you.
