St James Court is a wonderful care home. They go above and beyond for my mum. My mum came into St James Court three years ago with dementia, and all the staff are very kind, helpful and caring.

I wouldn’t ever want to move my mum as she is very happy and settled.

Reply from Denise Stephenson, Managing Director at St James Court Care Home
Thank you so very much, Rachel, for your kind review and lovely compliments for the care you and your Mum have experienced at St James Court during the past three years. It really gives all our amazing staff a real boost to know that they are so much appreciated by our families.

Kindest regards.

My dad has been a resident at St James Court for over 12 months now following his dementia diagnosis. I can’t speak highly enough of the care he is receiving under difficult circumstances and complex care when he first arrived.
We had experienced a few other care homes, but nothing really compared to St James. The care staff are outstanding, always working super hard to give the best care possible. He has settled really well, which is always a good sign.
We have always been made welcome when visiting and always had positive experiences with all the staff who work tirelessly to provide a great experience.

Keep up the good work.

Mum is currently a permanent resident at St James and has been since August 2023. She had a 2 week respite stay in July 2023 after having looked at 3 other care homes which were not a patch on St James.

From walking through the door the place is airy, bright and clean. Mum's room is bright and spotlessly cleaned and her laundry is done and returned on a daily basis. The food is of a high quality and standard with a choice at each sitting which she can have in her room or dining room. The lounges are decorated beautifully and there are activities or entertainment for the residents every day of the week (Mum has her hair done weekly by the visiting hairdresser). The carers who look after my mum are diamonds - I can never thank them enough for the way they take care of her each day - no matter which shift is on they are equally compassionate, friendly, funny and respectful towards her. All of the team at St James are to be commended for the work they do, in every department.

My parents came to St James Court in May 2023. St James Court was recommended to us, and they were able to accommodate Mum and Dad in adjoining rooms. Unfortunately, respite care quite quickly turned into long-term care as my mum’s needs increased and my dad’s health began to deteriorate. Sadly, he passed away just seven weeks after arriving at St James Court.
The care and compassion shown in the seven weeks leading up to the death of my dad was first-class. This high level of care continued afterwards for my mum, who was dealing with grief after losing her husband of 66 years, her own health conditions and coming to terms with being in a strange environment.

Nothing is too much trouble, from preparing simple meals on request to accompanied visits to the dentist. All staff, without exception, are wonderfully caring. Management always reacts positively to requests, for example, to seek solutions to keep Mum safe as she tries to do things for herself and puts herself at risk of falling.

Reply from Tracey Oliver, Home Manager at St James Court Care Home

Thank you so much for these kind words. It was a pleasure and a delight to look after both your mum and dad, especially in the hard times of losing your dad. They will always hold a special place in all our hearts. All of you as a family will always be remembered for the kindness and dedication...

St James carefully cared for my late grandfather through to the very end. As I and my family live over 200 miles away in South Wales, it wasn’t the easiest trip getting to see my grandfather, but on every occasion not only did they display the the upmost care and kindness to my grandfather, but also myself and my family. Going beyond anything they needed to, they provided hot meals to us with no expectation of payment or reimbursement. This small act of kindness made a tremendous difference to our family during this period of grief.

I cannot express my gratitude to all the staff, including front of house, for being front line in terms of delivering care, but also to all the staff that you don’t see who support your family’s loved ones during their time there. Before I go, from the bottom of my heart I would again like to thank all the staff that supported my grandfather and my family, thank you.

Thank you so much for your kind words. The staff here go above and beyond, as you are aware. It was our pleasure to care for your grandad and to get to know you all as a family, he was truly a gentleman and all staff grew very fond of him. I will of course ensure your review and kind words are shared amongst all the staff. Once again, thank you.

My father went to St James Care Home, after always saying never to put him in a care home ('dreadful places'). What a turnaround, from day one he was treated like royalty. The staff were fantastic, from care staff to cleaners and kitchen staff. They were so kind and attentive, not only to Dad but me too, always checking I was coping with the situation (Dad was here for end of life care). The last five weeks were the best he had over the last nine months or so. He adored the home and more so the staff, which in turn made my final days with Dad a lot less stressful. I can’t thank you all enough and, in time, if I have to go in a home, I’ve told my sons this is the place for me.

Mum has been a resident at St James for a few weeks now, and I can’t speak highly enough of the care she has received. The entire staff, from the manager to the cleaners and cooks, are outstanding. The care, compassion and dignity shown to the residents are exemplary and humbling, and you couldn’t wish for more. I visit most days, and it is such a happy place, and nothing is too much trouble, and they care for us as well as Mum. An amazing place, full of people doing an amazing job.

At first, I was very worried about having to go into residential care, but I definitely did not need to worry. The staff are wonderful, caring and compassionate. Nothing was too much trouble. My only concern was the food, but that was rectified straight away. The management was fantastic, and I was told if I need anything, I just had to ask. Having my hair washed in a shower was fantastic, and I'd been having bed baths for two years. 5-stars.

I simply cannot thank the staff of St James enough for taking care of Dad. Resident now for 4-years, despite some health issues, he is one very happy gentleman often referring to St James as "being on a cruise ship!". The excellent meals, smiles, chat and regular entertainment definitely reflect this comment! Living away as I do, the relief of knowing he is in safe hands during the week and happy cannot be thanked enough.

My mum was in for a week's respite whilst we were away. Her care requirements were discussed with us extensively prior to her stay. This put us at ease and assured us she would have the best care during her stay. Staff were helpful and informative when we phoned to see how my mum was getting on and reassured us she was happy and being well cared for. She enjoyed her stay especially the activities organised for residents. We would have no hesitation in letting her stay again.

I don't normally write reviews, but feel compelled to do so.
My mother spent a few weeks at St James Court rehabilitating because of a fall at home, resulting in her breaking her arm and then spending a couple of weeks in hospital. 98-years-old, and it was her first pot, and hopefully, she won't be doing it again. The time she spent at St James Court - she was like a new woman.
Always smiling and praising the staff, the place is spotless.
As a family, we were anxious that she was going into a care home. Since my father died 30-years ago, she had always been independent. We need not have worried. The facilities at St James Court are superb. The staff couldn't do enough for her while she was there and very caring. My mother even had her hair done several times. This meant alot to us as a family, as we knew from the day we visited that she would be in good hands, and we were right. When she was finally able to go home, she had even put weight on.

Thank you to all at St James Court.

The staff have gone out of their way to make sure my brother settled in, and we were all amazed at how well he integrated into the home. He enjoys the activities and loves the food. It has been such a relief for me and my sister. We feel like we can visit him now and can sit to have a conversation with him, instead of spending time cleaning and chasing around to sort things.

My father going into care was the last resort; St James was chosen based on their reviews and closeness for visits. Arriving during the pandemic (April 2021), meant initial contact was limited to window visits only, and it was troubling to be advised that even these should have been restricted to weekdays/certain hours - no idea why this would have been necessary and only made a hard time even harder. Since face to face visits and outside trips are now possible, this has improved, and my father lives for those times.
Staff, on the whole, are wonderful with him and us - they know him as an individual and really do care for and about him. They have helped us to make his room more personable, however, at times, it is very 'busy' and untidy, and more attention could be given to daily tidying.

Meals I am told on the whole are good, (although there was a recent period of poor quality meals), it is perhaps just a need to encourage more socialising that is needed as days can be very long where visits are limited.

My dad is 90-years-old with Parkinson's disease and Vascular Dementia with diminished circulation in both legs. He is not the easiest of people to care for but, the staff at St James are doing a tremendous job. He tells us on a daily basis that he hates living there, but the staff are wonderful; they are all good people doing their best to take care of him. My dad has been saying for 14-years that he wants to go to sleep and not wake up so he can be with my mum, and he is so disappointed to wake up again each day.
As a manager of a care facility going through the same Covid issues at St James, I can appreciate the hard work and dedication this staff team show to my dad and all the other residents. We chose this home on the reviews from families and the CQC rating, and as a family, we feel we chose right.

No child wants to put their parent in a care home, but when there is no other option, thank God for places like St James. The staff are dedicated and friendly with person-centred ethics.

We have been very pleased and satisfied with the care given during the last three years. The home is modern, and the building is well looked after. The cleanliness of the room could have been better, at times very dirty! There is a good team of staff. We have seen two managers within this time, and they have always left because they were not provided what was promised when they start. The end of life care was excellent, thank you.

The team at St James took excellent care of mum, from the moment she was welcomed in she became part of the family. Sadly, Mum has passed away under the most difficult of times, but this was managed with compassion, and we were allowed to spend precious time with her whilst keeping everyone else safe. Mums comfort and care were always at the forefront and every call we were kept informed, and when possible able to speak to her, which made a huge difference. As a family, we are so grateful that we chose St James as it gave us peace of mind knowing who she was with and was so cared for. We will be forever thankful, and on Mums last day, the team made the most awful day that little bit easier and so dignified. Thank you.

I can not thank St James Court enough, the care for my mum during her last few months was amazing.
The staff are second to none, absolutely nothing was too much trouble, even during Covid-19 when staffing levels were very difficult, they arranged to be with Mum when we called so they could answer her phone and we could say hello.
I have nothing but praise for every single member of staff and so grateful that mum's last months were spent in such a lovely, caring and friendly place.
