I'm concerned about my husbands basic hygeine and overall care. His ears are never cleaned properly, behind the ear and just inside the ear, where there is often a build up of dry skin and stale food. Hands & finger nails are regularly smelly and grimy. He wears a splint and his hand bends in. This is all in a nutshell. He can be resistive but this shouldn't be an ongoing excuse. Same with his showers. He never has any interaction from staff or walks our like other residents despite me asking. This is all in a nutshell.

My husband came to Astley Hall for a week's respite care, to give me a break. From the start, all the staff, without exception, were so friendly and welcoming;, throughout his stay they showed such care and understanding. It is a lovely home, well run with a lovely free atmosphere. Thank you to all the staff; you are wonderful.

Very welcoming to residents and relatives, where nothing seems too much trouble. I am very impressed by the range of activities laid on every day and the unfailing efforts to involve my father. Clean, well-maintained and comfortable. The facilities and grounds are impressive.

My mum has lived at Astley Hall for nearly 2 years now, and I am always impressed with the caring attitudes and kindness of the staff, no matter if they are caring/housekeeping/activities/catering/management. My mum suffers from high anxiety with her dementia, and she is always treated with understanding. She lived with me for 8 years pre-dementia, and obviously would therefore rather still be at home with me but she now calls Astley her home and understands she is safe there. Thank you team!!

My Mom has been at the home since the very first day it opened and we have seen some incredible changes. The staff give a 110% to their chosen profession. Nothing is too much trouble. Food is amazing, cleanliness is perfect. Activities are always busy trying to create something new to do and even though some residents like Mom cannot join in, they are very happy to watch others and she laughs away with everyone else. Even family members are treated like part of the family and encouraged to join in. Since our care home manager Dimpho joined the home there have been a lot of changes and these are for the better. All staff, residents and family members all seem very happy with the improvements. Well done Astley Hall, you're amazing.

My mum has been a resident since June 2025. She settled in straight away and we knew as a family it was the best place for her. She has mobility issues and dementia. The care she has received is excellent and the staff are always welcoming and helpful. There is nothing that is too much trouble. Mum's face lights up when the staff interact with her. That reassures me she is in good hands.
Mum enjoys doing the daily activities with the entertainment staff and loves to have her hair done in the salon. There is a garden to enjoy in the summer and different event's organised for residents and relatives throughout the year.
The whole accommodation is attractive and spotlessly clean and mum has a comfortable ensuite room equipped with assisted technology to help in the event of any falls she may have.

I would recommend Astley Hall to anyone needing care for a relative.

Mum had a fall at home, which resulted in a bleed on the brain, a broken right wrist and a broken left thumb. This time last week, she had a UTI with E. coli and also pneumonia. She was extremely frail and also had delirium. Four days at Astley Hall have transformed her. The staff and the environment are superb, and nothing is too much trouble. My family are so reassured that she is in the best place possible, and she is smiling more each day. Many thanks to all that make Astley Hall so successful.

My mum has been a resident for 4 1/2 years. Each stage of her dementia has been treated with care due care and respect. Sometimes it can be difficult dealing with residents suffering from dementia but the staff give 110% of themselves to the care of the residents.

My husband was a resident in Astley Hall from March 2023 until his death in January 2026.
He went there following a stroke and he also had dementia. I cared for him at home for three and a half years but he eventually became too much for me to manage.
The staff at Astley Hall were all so caring and friendly and they became my friends too. They looked after him so well even though he could be difficult at times due to the dementia.
The environment is lovely with en-suite rooms and the Bistro area makes the place feel more like a hotel than a care home.
There are also dedicated staff who organise Activities for residents so there is always something to do.
If you need to be in a care home then this is the one to be in!
I cannot thank the staff enough for all they have done for both of us.

Thank You!!

The staff were amazing, everyone I met was happy to be there, supporting the residents and created an atmosphere of warm and welcoming, geniune care

Overall Dads care was always kind and compassionate at Astley Hall , in his final days he was was cared for on the nursing floor I would of preferred Dad to stay on the Residential floor where his regular careers were but I fully understand the reason as Dad needed regular medication administered to keep him comfortable .

His final day was very calm pain free and peaceful and the staff treated dad with care and respect and dignity.

In the 14 months that Dad was a resident my main area for improvement and development would be communication between staff regarding some of Dads personal needs, hearing aids ,Teeth ,and grooming and monitoring of his diabetes .

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the staff for the excellent care provided to our dad. His first stay was over Christmas and New Year, and it was wonderful to see a smile on his face during that time. After an extended stay in hospital, he returned for a second stay during which he sadly passed away.

Throughout both visits, the team were compassionate, attentive, and professional. They treated him with dignity and kindness, always keeping him comfortable and providing reassurance to our family. He particularly enjoyed the food, especially the trifle!

As for value for money, while funding your own care at Astley Hall is expensive, it is no more costly than other care homes we looked at.

Thank you for everything you did for our dad - it truly made a difficult time more bearable.

From our first visit to Astley Hall, it was clear that the facility was in great condition and more importantly, there were plenty of staff to care for the patients.
On floor 1, the staff were fabulous. All wore a smile and couldn't do more to look after mum.

I would happily recommend the home and staff, one or two in particular went over and above!

My mum has settled so well at Astley Hall. The rooms are kept spotlessly clean and mum is always dressed, clean and wearing her pearls when I visit with a big smile on her face which speaks volumes. I visit every other day. There is also a hair salon and Bistro on site. Mum has visits to both and often Mum and I enjoy a sing song in The Bistro when events are being held. Mum has become quite fussy eating lately and the staff go above and beyond to try different items of food that mum might like. Every single member of staff put's so much effort, patience, care and compassion into looking after my mum and even after the long hours they all put in, they still find the time to ask how I am. I could not have managed this dementia journey without you all, the support means a lot to me. What a great team! Thank you to the whole team that makes Astley Hall what it is and for all your smiles and support!

Considering that this was so expensive- nearly £4000 for 2 weeks - it fell far below expectations. More like an expensive but failing hotel
I did not feel safe in my room as inmates kept bursting in. I didn't feel that this was taken very seriously ("they won't do any harm" )
Even the food was poor and no sign of a proper menu.. Being a vegetarian seemed to be a problem. No proper orange juice.
Care was good although intermittent.

Activity leaders were not trained.

Astley Hall is a lovely bright care home but more importantly the staff are very supportive and kind to my relative - always with a smile from the minute you are greeted at reception through to the management team.
The nurses informed me on a regular basis of my relatives decline/changes in behaviour with dementia and any medication updates the doctors had advised. This was very important due to the distance I could not visit as often as I liked.
Although my relative did not wish most of the time to become involved in daily entertainment or activities- the staff would always encourage but not force anyone to participate. Which was a shame as there always seemed to be something different going on!
A bonus to the facilities the residents have access to a hairdresser/chiropodist possibly more.

As you enter the reception there is a lovely bistro area which is a great place for my relative to leave their room/tv lounge (as lovely as they are) sit with family, friends and other residents.

I looked at a few homes before my dad had to go into care but this one offered light, modern and clean accommodation. The temperature is perfect for elderly people who feel the cold. The staff, especially the nursing staff are lovely. Yes, voices are a little raised but only so the residents can hear them! My father has had some minor health issues and I was kept fully notified and they were dealt with swiftly. Prices seem comparable with other similar homes. My only complaint is that don't seem to offer trips out for the more mobile residents

The management of the facility exhibited significant shortcomings, characterized by delayed responses that often spanned several days. Additionally, certain team members displayed a lack of professionalism, speaking condescendingly to residents and occasionally raising their voices, which contributed to an uncomfortable atmosphere. Beyond the exorbitant costs associated with care, the quality of service provided to my father was notably subpar. Following a serious fall that necessitated a hospital stay, it became evident that his basic needs were not being met; his clothing was unclean, and he was not given adequate personal hygiene care. This experience raises serious concerns about the overall standards of care and the treatment of residents within the facility.
