Staff are excellent, professional and extremely caring, however could use extra staff. I've noticed sometimes only 1-2 on at various times. Kitchen staff are also very helpful and approachable. Activites are great and the garden very welcoming. It would be good to know what family has to provide for
resident bedding, hand wash, etc. Overall no major issues.

On the floor that your Aunt resides there would only usually be 2 staff allocated although there are other members of staff that can assist should the need arise. It is useful to know what information you feel would be beneficial to you as a relative and we will look to included this within the brochure and welcome pack.

Overall my 3 week respite stay at the Royal Hampton was excellent. I have recovered far sooner than I expected and in a large part is this owing to the care and attention I have received. The home offers a fulsome activity programme and the catering - I felt like I was on a cruise! However things could
have been improved by having an introduction to the home and staff should have been made aware I was a short stay patient and not a permanent resident on the nursing floor, though was expecting to on the residential only ground floor.

I am pleased that you felt your quick recovery was due to the care you received. Although staff had been informed you were only here for a short stay this obviously had not filtered to all staff, however this would not have changed the way in which you were cared for during your stay. I am sorry that we did not have a ground floor room available at the time of your stay.

The home was excellent, I visited many before choosing a place for my mother. From the very first visit, to the day I picked my mum up to bring her home, they couldn't have made us feel more welcome and comfortable with what could have been a difficult experience. The whole staff were amazing, I can't

It is an excellent care home, all the staff are very friendly and kind and there is a lovely community within the home. All the residents seem to feel happy with the home and feel comfortable and safe.

Amazing and attentive care for our mum over the last 5 1/2 years.
Low turnover of staff and nurses so Mum feels secure with the same familiar nursing and care staff.
Mum particularly enjoys the in-house activities and trips out that the activities coordinator organises.
The food and rooms are lovely
and the home is well maintained.

This is my first experience of a home, but having told friends about it, they all want to live there. The downstairs communal area is like a classy hotel and has a nice feeling about it. Rooms are clean functional and can accommodate personal possessions to help make it feel like home. Like any journey,
it took the residents some time to settle in but now they can see the benefit of being looked after and cared for. And I have to say knowing they are safe and looked after is peace of mind, thank you all.

My husband is unable to join in any Christmas celebrations (of which there were many!). But the staff continued their diligent care of him despite the distractions. They included him (and me) whenever they could.

On first appearance entering the home you are made very welcoming with the professionalism and kindness of the staff. The premises being extremely clean. The care that our friend has received since moving in the care home has been exceptional. We find the staff are most efficient and caring with regards
to residents, families and visitors. Excellent communications and available for discussion on any matter.

My friend has been in Royal Hampton - Ponteland for three years, through she is not aware of it. She is comfortable, kept well occupied taking part in activities arranged. Enjoys her food and has gained weight. Needs regular prompting to get a hair cut from the visiting hairdresser. Generally I consider
she is in the best place for her care considering her condition.

My mother-in-law has just had a months respite to help her recover. All of the staff at Royal Hampton have been amazing. The atmosphere is so kind and welcoming. Everything about the service staff and how everyone interacts with us all as a family has been very impressive. If we need your service again,
we wouldn't hesitate. You are all fabulous and we can't thank you enough. First rate and 5 gold stars!

I visit Royal Hampton once per week with my dog, "Roxy". We go to rooms and lounges and Roxy is treated to cuddles by the residents. I always take a supply of treats for the residents to feed Roxy.
I can see that the care home is run to a very high standard so, even though I have not sampled the food
or used any of the facilities, I have no hesitation in selecting the ratings. The staff are very friendly and they all love Roxy.

The hardest thing I have had to do on being informed Mum required nursing care, not only was she leaving her home but also her hometown of 96 years some 200 miles away to be closer to me. After visiting a number of homes, Royal Hampton impressed me, speaking with management, staff and residents this
was my choice. Mum arrived in August 2022 but sadly passed in November 2023, during this time the care Mum received was beyond my expectations, from top to bottom all staff and volunteers cared for Mum with the utmost professionalism, respect, support, care and love. The staff not only cared for Mum but also supported me during Mum's time at the home. I cannot praise and thank all members of the Royal Hampton team enough and I am so glad I chose this wonderful home.

Dad came to stay at the Royal Hampton after being in hospital, and couldn't go home due to the lack of home carers available. Initially, his stay was for respite but after several months he agreed that staying long-term would be the best option for him. He struggled to adapt, being a very proud man
and can be very challenging but the staff at the Royal Hampton - Ponteland are amazing, so patient and caring - and a great support for us. That goes for the management team too.
Dad is very private and never wants to join in any of the activities (of which there is a good variety of) but there is no pressure for him to do so. There is always a good choice of food on the menu each day, again Dad prefers to eat in his room rather than joining other residents in the dining room - his preferences are always accommodated with no problem.
It has been a difficult time for the family with such a change in circumstances for Dad, but the team at Royal Hampton - Ponteland have helped us through this for which we will always be grateful.

My brother is very happy here. I had dreaded the sell your house conversation, but he decided independently. Staff create a real community feel which he loves. He's not a 'typical' care home user and staff have worked really hard to make this work for him.

My mum has been a resident for four years now. Royal Hampton is totally amazing. Mum is so safe and happy in every possible way.
A member of staff is employed to arrange entertainment of which there is an almost constant variety provided. Concerts, singing, arts and crafts, trips out, dressy-up days,
animal visits. Too many to list. Just today, when I visited my mum, I took part in an exercise class with her. There was a wide range of residents from different areas of the home. I noticed how well cared for everyone looked. Make-up on, nice clothes, hair brushed. Clear to see how well cared for everyone is. Only one small example of the lovely things my mum gets up to.
All in all, I truly do not believe my mum could be anywhere better than Royal Hampton. Bright, clean, classy.
Smiling, happy staff who really care with gentle humour. Exceptional, five stars.

My dad has been a resident at Royal Hampton since November 2021. I can only say positive things about this facility. The staff are wonderful, both in the way they care for dad, with respect and compassion, to the support they provide to my mum and the rest of the family. From the moment we first visited,
we were made to feel special, and supported. The surroundings are second to none. My dad's room was redecorated prior to his arrival, and the whole home is outstanding. So many activities are provided, and though my dad doesn’t actively take part often, he is not excluded from these, often being included in the social media posts, which is a comfort to mum. As a family, we can’t thank the staff enough for the support and care they provide.

From start to finish care staff made me feel very welcome and relaxed. The care and attention I received exceeded expectations. The room was very clean and my request for additional equipment to meet my needs was immediately attended to. Food was simple but very tasty and medication given at the exact

Totally amazing staff and atmosphere/nursing home. I cannot thank the staff at the Royal Hampton enough for care and attention they have shown my dad since his stroke. He went from being fully independent to needing full support. His experience in the hospital was, to say the least, poor and he was
told he had to go into a nursing home. I was dreading it, as was dad, however within one day of being at the Royal Hampton he was back to being continent due to the care and attentiveness of the staff and he has settled in, is happy and thoroughly enjoying the atmosphere, care and support he receives. All staff are amazing and super friendly and go beyond the call of duty to meet any needs either dad has or we (as family members) ask of them. All staff make it a friendly, caring environment and most of all fun, feels like a five-star hotel full of friends.

Karen Taylor-Williams

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2018

I was born in May 1969 in Hythe in the New Forest in Hampshire. I have a younger brother Neil who currently lives in New Zealand with his family.


My Father is a qualified engineer and as a result, we moved around the country with his work, moving to the North East in 1976.


I completed my High School years at Greenfield School in Newton Aycliffe and King Edwards V school in Morpeth. Leaving to go on a pre-nursing course at Ashington Tech.


I studied at St George's Hospital in Morpeth completing my Registered Mental Nurse training in 1990.


I married Karleen in 2014 and between us, we have seven children. I now have 3 grandchildren who give me immense pleasure and joy. The children and grandchildren are always at our house so home life is hectic and noisy but I wouldn't have it any other way.


We have three dogs and three cats but have had many different animals over the years.
I have worked in the private sector since 1991 and have managed care homes since 1994, specialising predominately in Dementia Care. I won "Best Dementia Care Manager" Award with the Dementia Times in 2010.
I have worked at Royal Hampton since 2018, it is an amazing place to work with lovely people and see myself here until I retire.
