My brother has been a resident in the care home for about three years. The care provided has been exceptional and tailored to his every need acknowledging those needs have changed in the time he has been a resident. Nothing is an issue in respect to the challenges he presents and he clearly enjoys the
opportunities to mix with the staff and the other residents whilst joining in with the varied activities organised by the home. He never says he wants to leave and whilst he has enjoyed going on outings he always looks forward to returning to the home. He is always clean and well presented when we visit and his accommodation is first class in every respect. The staff are brilliant and clearly enjoy their work which has been really difficult during the pandemic when they have to balance home life with caring for the residents at The Royal Hampton.

Dad was admitted as Covid lockdown began and during this difficult year, the care he has received has been outstanding.
He is comfortable and content which is everything we want for him.
Hopefully, when things return to normal he will be able to get even more from the fabulous facilities the home
provides and participate in the numerous events usually arranged.
Every member of staff we have ever dealt with is well trained, kind and caring.
We could not be more pleased with our decision to move Dad to Royal Hampton after our experience elsewhere.

I have already unreservedly recommended Royal Hampton - Ponteland to 3 friends, for their own parents. It's just not like any Care Home I've come across before, and Mum has now been in 3! I liken it to a boutique hotel; stylish and welcoming. In fact, although I joke with friends that 'I've booked myself
in already', I think that most visitors can visualise themselves happily seeing out their days in such a wonderful, warm and welcoming environment! The staff are very special, and even though staff change over time, of course, they're consistently selected and inducted into a culture of warmth, compassion, liveliness and humour. Since lockdown, I've really missed visiting not just Mum, but the whole place! I normally arrive, pour myself a 'proper' coffee from the percolator, and en route to my mum's room, staff will give me delightful little anecdotes about Mum's activity, which almost invariably demonstrate their depth of understanding of Mum's personality and needs. It's a 'ten' from me!

During her stay at Royal Hampton, my mother found the accommodation very comfortable and the standard of care was excellent. It is fair to say my mother would rather have been at home but as this was not possible I found the Royal Hampton only to be second to her own home. The staff played a key role
in making her stay a very happy one.

My lovely mum has been a resident of the Royal Hampton since January 2020. It was a very difficult decision to make and to admit that she needed extra help and care; care as a family that we could not give. The staff at the Royal Hampton have made this transition as easy and as pain-free as it possibly
could be, albeit still difficult. From the business manager and the girls in the office to all the staff on the Serenity Unit, they are so friendly, welcoming and professional; with a tissue and a cuppa always on hand, if needed. Every member of the staff knows my mum's name and are all so friendly. On entering the Royal Hampton it resembles a 5* hotel, and the treatment is of the same standard. I love the fact that at the entrance is a "coffee shop" that I can take my mum and her friends to. I would definitely recommend the Royal Hampton.

As with most families, it was an incredibly difficult decision to move our mum into a care home.
From our first visit to view Royal Hampton, we knew this was a home that could provide the exceptional care that would be expected for a loved one.
Our mum was very reluctant to enter a home but the
move was made so much easier by the wonderful staff and all their support.
She was made very welcome and they carefully integrated her into their community with like-minded residents. She is treated like family and has a great relationship with each and every member of staff.
The visiting is very relaxed and it's always lovely to arrive to see her involved in activities or being entertained by the many singers/magicians etc that are booked frequently.
It is well equipped with many extra facilities for all to enjoy.
Most importantly it is clean and maintained to a very high standard.
A real home from home where we can be reassured and content she is receiving the best care possible.

This is an amazing home for anyone wishing to volunteer. I have had a great experience working with the staff and I found the atmosphere warm and inviting. My time spent with residents was also a learning opportunity as well as an opportunity to give something back. I hope to carry out further volunteering
soon.

It is quite apparent that this care home rates extremely high in both location and professionalism. From my perspective, the entire staff with whom I have had the pleasure in meeting go far and beyond the display of caring for my mother.
Being overseas is difficult under the circumstances, however,
a very good communication link has been established.
So my overall opinion is this is a first-class home and I have a sense of contentment that everything my mother requires is being met.

I arrived 24 hours after major surgery. The meal was inedible, cold and dry. There was nothing to have a drink from, I had to ring during the night. The next 2 day's food was dreadful and I was unable to eat more than a mouthful, as was pudding/sweet. I found it frustrating not to be able to have a
kettle to make tea/coffee. No wardrobe, no key for the lockable drawer. Paperwork re valuables and terms and conditions was not received until I was in house and I had to insist on time to read it. Care staff were generally pleasant and helpful but the organisation was poor. The difficulty of this job is appreciated but it could be better organised. One person worked a 24-hour shift - neither good nor safe.
Reply from Karen Taylor-Williams, Manager at Royal Hampton Care HomeIt is pleasing to note that you found the staff pleasant and helpful. We are always striving to improve the quality of our service and value all constructive feedback such as yours.

Royal Hampton appreciates honest timely feedback to continually improve and develop our service. Open and transparent communication is key for our service and during a time of our catering management changes, we acknowledge this may have been lacking in parts.

We would love you to return to sample the improved service and gather your views.

My visit was made to offer help at a fundraising event. I was warmly welcomed by staff as I arrived. Shown around the home and pointed in the direction of support staff and facilities. During my visit I was introduced to some of the residents I was amazed at the home from home feeling, the decor and
the cleanliness and the prompt request for help given by staff to the residents.

My Aunt has now lived in the Royal Hampton for about 18 months and I have been very happy with the care she is given. Staff are kind and friendly and try hard to meet the residents' needs.
She has found it difficult to settle as she misses her home and independence a lot, but they are patient and try
to help her when it is needed.

Royal Hampton was recommended to me by a family friend for my neighbour who I currently care for and who was looking for some respite. From the minute you walk in the front door you are welcomed in by the stunning surroundings and the very friendly staff. From being shown around the home by the knowledgeable
Management and Unit Manager and choosing a lovely sized room it certainly lived up to my expectations. The home has a warm relaxed atmosphere with hotel style facilities but still manages to feel like a home from home. This was a respite stay for a long weekend and both my neighbour and I couldn't have felt more looked after, nothing was too much trouble for the very helpful care staff. I accompanied my friend in the Restaurant for lunch on the Sunday which was a nice dining experience with delicious food. I can't recommend this home enough, my friend has booked in her next stay and is looking forward to spending her time there.

The Royal Hampton is an excellent care home with kind and attentive staff, who provide a wide range of activities for the residents. It is spacious and comfortable with brilliant facilities for the residents.
I have been volunteering at the Royal Hampton for three months and have seen first hand how
helpful and supportive the staff are and it seems clear that the residents have a lot of trust for the staff, creating a brilliant environment for the residents.
I would thoroughly recommend the Royal Hampton to anyone who is thinking of coming here.

Walking into the magnificent entrance hall it feels like a five star hotel. A huge chandelier hangs above the light and inviting entrance with beautiful flowers and seating. Your eyes are led past the mirror to the bar and restaurant where tables are set for high tea. The decor is classy yet calming,
stylish and welcoming, its so easy to forget that you are in a care home.
However, the most impressive thing about the Royal Hampton is the genuine warmth radiating from the staff. They are friendly, yet professional. Happy and helpful, welcoming and calm even though they are busy and probably stressed, they always have time for you. They care about your loved ones, and you know that when you leave they will be safe and looked after until you return. Trips are organised, entertainment provided, cinema, hairdressing, music events. Guests are welcome to join residents for meals. Make sure you book for the wonderful three course Sunday lunch then coffee, provided by the great chefs. A place of happiness.

My mother has now been in The Royal Hampton for seven months. The home presents as very well appointed and comfortable, spacious, bright and airy. All the residents seem settled, happy and contented. The staff are exceptionally good and are all cheerful, helpful, calm, kind and professional, treating
the residents with dignity.
Initial concerns at placing mum in the home were quickly dissipated and she settled very quickly into the safe and secure environment.

My Father stayed at Royal Hampton - Ponteland for 2 weeks respite between leaving hospital and coming home. He received excellent care from uniformly kind and very experienced staff.
There is a very nice atmosphere and the public areas are beautifully furnished and maintained. Large windows and light
floors create a feeling of space which is lovely.
The room my Father occupied was a good size and well maintained.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.835)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.835) out of 10 for Royal Hampton Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.835 for Royal Hampton Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (219 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 260 Ratings = 4.835
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Royal Hampton Care Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 73 registered maximum number of service users is 14.6, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

My Father is a qualified engineer and as a result, we moved around the country with his work, moving to the North East in 1976.

I completed my High School years at Greenfield School in Newton Aycliffe and King Edwards V school in Morpeth. Leaving to go on a pre-nursing course at Ashington Tech.

I studied at St George's Hospital in Morpeth completing my Registered Mental Nurse training in 1990.

I married Karleen in 2014 and between us, we have seven children. I now have 3 grandchildren who give me immense pleasure and joy. The children and grandchildren are always at our house so home life is hectic and noisy but I wouldn't have it any other way.

We have three dogs and three cats but have had many different animals over the years.
I have worked in the private sector since 1991 and have managed care homes since 1994, specialising predominately in Dementia Care. I won "Best Dementia Care Manager" Award with the Dementia Times in 2010.
