All the staff at Royal Hampton couldn’t have made our father more relaxed, happy and comfortable in what was a sudden change of care due to increased nursing needs.
With their exceptional nursing and social care, he feels safe yet stimulated.
I have to include all admin and services staff in this
review. They all seem to take time to chat with dad and the residents.
The staff are so intuitive about dad’s needs and found out very quickly what motivates and also settles him as a resident with dementia.
Importantly, the Royal Hampton is not just a stylish home with a very comfortable interior. I love going in to visit dad and his new friends. The staff always make me feel welcome and listen if I have any concerns regarding dad’s health and well-being.
Thank you so much all at the Royal Hampton. This was such a big life change for dad and he is happy and thriving as best possible considering his conditions due to your nursing care, personal attention, social stimulation and humour.

I have been a resident at Royal Hampton for approximately four years. I moved into the home as it was close to my previous residence, and I was greeted with a very warm welcome when I arrived. The staff that assist me are lovely and always kind. I thoroughly enjoy the food, and there is always an alternative
if I do not like the menu choices. There is a hive of activities available, and I particularly enjoy the said evenings with music and entertainment. I feel support in my everyday living, but also in more personal matters; I know there is always someone there to guide me.

My mother and father moved into the Royal Hampton - Pontelandin September 2021 and from the first moment the quality of care and support not only for my parents but all my family has been and continues to be superb, second to none. All the staff are professional, caring, cheerful, polite and supportive.
Quite frankly I cannot find the words to praise the staff enough for everything they do. They are truly outstanding and amazing. I have already recommended the Royal Hampton to other families and will continue to do so. To all the staff at the Royal Hampton “ thank you” for everything you do.

As a resident of Royal Hampton, my family and I are very satisfied with the accommodation and service given to me. I have made Royal Hampton my home for the past three years and couldn’t be happier with the care and attention I receive.
The choice of food is fantastic, and if there is nothing to
your taste at mealtimes, the kitchen will accommodate you with something without any hesitation.
The building is always clean and well maintained, the housekeeping and laundry staff are very efficient, and I am always impressed with the service. Throughout the week we have lots of activities, evening entertainment, afternoon arts and crafts, exercise and music, there is something for everyone. I enjoy crosswords and quizzes and look forward to the regular quizzing sessions.
If I ever have any needs, big or small, someone is always there to help. The staff, whichever position, are friendly and respectful.
I feel perfectly at home at Royal Hampton and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

I was warmly greeted by one of the management team who kindly escorted me to meet my friend. I witnessed care staff engaging clients with activities in the lounge and ensuring individual needs were met and residents were given choices. There was a homely and relaxed feel and the rooms were tastefully
decorated, air-conditioned, clean and comfortable. I was very impressed with how cheerful polite, and friendly all the staff were and they made me feel very welcome in my visit.

My mother was a resident with Royal Hampton and went onto end of life care in June 2021, unfortunately, but as expected she passed away July 2nd. The whole team on every level were excellent and made this very difficult time as bearable as possible.
A room was made available to me and my good wife
to be with my mother until she passed, her dying wish was not to die alone, thanks to the team this was realised.
The carers, nurses and others made my mother's days as comfortable as possible as well as keeping an eye on us.
During the Covid restrictions when we weren't allowed to see her it was peace of mind knowing she was being well cared for.
Again, thanks to the whole team there at Royal Hampton.

It was not easy for our aunt to move into a home. We are so impressed with the entirety of the Royal Hampton, the empathy, reassurance and calmness shown by the management and staff, the catering and the activities organised for the residents. The staff are lovely and have helped our aunt and ourselves
through a difficult time.
She enjoys taking part in some activities. During Covid, the staff organised an afternoon tea party for her to celebrate a very special birthday with her singing and dancing and eating birthday cake. What a great time she had!
It's lovely seeing her and the staff again with the lifting of some Covid restrictions. With dementia, she now no longer recognises us, but, she is happy, engaging with ourselves and the staff and talking about her younger years.
My aunt is being very well looked after by a very professional, empathetic and caring team in beautiful surroundings. We have no hesitation in recommending the Royal Hampton.

As a senior healthcare professional, I fully recognised the importance of delivering the very best of care for both health and well-being.
But as a daughter of an amazing 86 year old woman who unfortunately has dementia the time arrived when we as a family needed to recognise that other than love and
protection we were unable to successfully meet all of the daily challenges that her illness brought. Fast forward to lots of research and we found Royal Hampton. We worried would she be liked, eat, be lonely, settle, will the staff see her true personality. The day came and it was difficult to say goodbye the staff focussed solely on Mum. As I left the Business Manager came to me and said "please don't worry, she will be well looked after" I left with a little tear knowing the right decision had been made. When I phoned that evening Mum was singing with the choir, she truly believes she is staying in a 5-star hotel and I wouldn't have it any other way the décor, menus, activities and amazing staff.

My mother died at Royal Hampton in March 2021. Despite some mobility issues she had enjoyed the excellent care, facilities and community of Royal Hampton for a year before her health began to fail. During this process of decline that lasted some five months, staff were responsive and attentive throughout
making sure that mum's comfort was a priority. With Covid constraints making the situation particularly difficult staff were also extremely patient and considerate to me and the rest of mum's family. I think it was because of the strength of the relationships that mum enjoyed with staff and the confidence that she had in them to care for her that what might have been a very difficult stage in her life was in fact peaceful and contented. The quality of a care home depends very much on the quality of the people who work there and mum and I agreed that her carers and nurses were great - she felt loved. This is a very good care home. Thank you Royal Hampton.

Royal Hampton went out of their way to assist the family when admitting dad into permanent care - one of the most difficult decisions the family has had to make, ever. However the family, as a result of the ongoing care and attention dad is receiving from Royal Hampton, are very much assured that he
is happy and content with his life and our decision to take up the offer of permanent residency at Royal Hampton was the correct one. This is very much helped by the environment provided at Royal Hampton including the building fabric, facilities on offer but most of all the caring attitude of the staff. These aspects must be commended - well done. The Covid safe procedures implemented by Royal Hampton have been challenging for all involved - roll on the day that we can further explore dads care when the measures are further relaxed. I would have no hesitation in recommending this facility to other families looking to place their loved ones into a care home.

Life is always quick to grumble, but not always quick to praise.
An elderly friend who needed some TLC after being discharged from hospital decided that she needed some extra care. Arrangements were made for her stay in the Royal Hampton. This was a dramatic time for her, being poorly, leaving her
home and Covid. The first 2 weeks were unsettling, (due to the Covid isolation policy), but she adapted to the situation simply by the care, kindness and extra attention that was given to her. Not having to worry about her medication, prep of meals, being alone and feeling vulnerable. So much so, she booked herself in for 3 weeks more later on in the year, when she left the Royal Hampton. Unfortunately, she took poorly again this year and when contacting Royal Hampton there was no problem in accommodating her. The professionalism of the administrative staff along with the attentive carers made her decision to book in for another stay with no hesitation. So on her behalf and mine, thank you for all that you do, and accept our praise.

My brother has been a resident in the care home for about three years. The care provided has been exceptional and tailored to his every need acknowledging those needs have changed in the time he has been a resident. Nothing is an issue in respect to the challenges he presents and he clearly enjoys the
opportunities to mix with the staff and the other residents whilst joining in with the varied activities organised by the home. He never says he wants to leave and whilst he has enjoyed going on outings he always looks forward to returning to the home. He is always clean and well presented when we visit and his accommodation is first class in every respect. The staff are brilliant and clearly enjoy their work which has been really difficult during the pandemic when they have to balance home life with caring for the residents at The Royal Hampton.

Dad was admitted as Covid lockdown began and during this difficult year, the care he has received has been outstanding.
He is comfortable and content which is everything we want for him.
Hopefully, when things return to normal he will be able to get even more from the fabulous facilities the home
provides and participate in the numerous events usually arranged.
Every member of staff we have ever dealt with is well trained, kind and caring.
We could not be more pleased with our decision to move Dad to Royal Hampton after our experience elsewhere.

I have already unreservedly recommended Royal Hampton - Ponteland to 3 friends, for their own parents. It's just not like any Care Home I've come across before, and Mum has now been in 3! I liken it to a boutique hotel; stylish and welcoming. In fact, although I joke with friends that 'I've booked myself
in already', I think that most visitors can visualise themselves happily seeing out their days in such a wonderful, warm and welcoming environment! The staff are very special, and even though staff change over time, of course, they're consistently selected and inducted into a culture of warmth, compassion, liveliness and humour. Since lockdown, I've really missed visiting not just Mum, but the whole place! I normally arrive, pour myself a 'proper' coffee from the percolator, and en route to my mum's room, staff will give me delightful little anecdotes about Mum's activity, which almost invariably demonstrate their depth of understanding of Mum's personality and needs. It's a 'ten' from me!

During her stay at Royal Hampton, my mother found the accommodation very comfortable and the standard of care was excellent. It is fair to say my mother would rather have been at home but as this was not possible I found the Royal Hampton only to be second to her own home. The staff played a key role

My lovely mum has been a resident of the Royal Hampton since January 2020. It was a very difficult decision to make and to admit that she needed extra help and care; care as a family that we could not give. The staff at the Royal Hampton have made this transition as easy and as pain-free as it possibly
could be, albeit still difficult. From the business manager and the girls in the office to all the staff on the Serenity Unit, they are so friendly, welcoming and professional; with a tissue and a cuppa always on hand, if needed. Every member of the staff knows my mum's name and are all so friendly. On entering the Royal Hampton it resembles a 5* hotel, and the treatment is of the same standard. I love the fact that at the entrance is a "coffee shop" that I can take my mum and her friends to. I would definitely recommend the Royal Hampton.

As with most families, it was an incredibly difficult decision to move our mum into a care home.
From our first visit to view Royal Hampton, we knew this was a home that could provide the exceptional care that would be expected for a loved one.
Our mum was very reluctant to enter a home but the
move was made so much easier by the wonderful staff and all their support.
She was made very welcome and they carefully integrated her into their community with like-minded residents. She is treated like family and has a great relationship with each and every member of staff.
The visiting is very relaxed and it's always lovely to arrive to see her involved in activities or being entertained by the many singers/magicians etc that are booked frequently.
It is well equipped with many extra facilities for all to enjoy.
Most importantly it is clean and maintained to a very high standard.
A real home from home where we can be reassured and content she is receiving the best care possible.

This is an amazing home for anyone wishing to volunteer. I have had a great experience working with the staff and I found the atmosphere warm and inviting. It is quite apparent that this care home rates extremely high in both location and professionalism. From my perspective, the entire staff with whom I have had the pleasure in meeting go far and beyond the display of caring for my mother.
Being overseas is difficult under the circumstances, however,
a very good communication link has been established.
So my overall opinion is this is a first-class home and I have a sense of contentment that everything my mother requires is being met.

Karen

Karen Taylor-Williams

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2018

I was born in May 1969 in Hythe in the New Forest in Hampshire. I have a younger brother Neil who currently lives in New Zealand with his family.


My Father is a qualified engineer and as a result, we moved around the country with his work, moving to the North East in 1976.


I completed my High School years at Greenfield School in Newton Aycliffe and King Edwards V school in Morpeth. Leaving to go on a pre-nursing course at Ashington Tech.


I studied at St George's Hospital in Morpeth completing my Registered Mental Nurse training in 1990.


I married Karleen in 2014 and between us, we have seven children. I now have 3 grandchildren who give me immense pleasure and joy. The children and grandchildren are always at our house so home life is hectic and noisy but I wouldn't have it any other way.


We have three dogs and three cats but have had many different animals over the years.
I have worked in the private sector since 1991 and have managed care homes since 1994, specialising predominately in Dementia Care. I won "Best Dementia Care Manager" Award with the Dementia Times in 2010.
I have worked at Royal Hampton since 2018, it is an amazing place to work with lovely people and see myself here until I retire.
