I feel it's important to share our experience, as we've had several ongoing concerns. Communication from management is often dismissive and lacks empathy, which is upsetting when raising issues about a loved one's care.
Staffing levels appear low, with a heavy reliance on agency staff rather than consistent full-time carers. This affects continuity and the overall quality of care. We have also witnessed some staff speaking to residents in a way that feels disrespectful, which is very concerning.
Food options are limited, and portion sizes are small. In addition, the home itself would benefit from investment and general improvements.

While there are some caring individuals, overall standards need significant improvement.

My husband received excellent care at Pennine Lodge. I describe the experience as: "From arrival through to his death, the staff cocooned us with care, dignity and support." I would not have wanted to be anywhere else when we were faced with end-of-life.

My mother is constantly in her room. She barely enjoys communal areas/activities. She has had falls over the last several months, resulting in hospital visits. On one of these visits, the attending doctor was so concerned about her levels of dehydration he suggested I inform social services. Which I did. I have again contacted them again regarding her latest hospital admission (hydration again). This is unacceptable due to her being on assisted fluids and food. How on earth does she become dehydrated.

From the first meeting with the manager at Pennine Lodge I felt a move to there was going to be a good move. Unfortunately, dad's health deteriorated after he was moved (nothing to do with the home or the move). From the start literally every member of staff looked after dad as well as us. Not naming names but from the lady asking us regularly if we wanted anything to eat and drink. To his clothes coming back smelling clean & beautifully folded. To all staff members who came in to chat & see if both dad and us were ok. Two wonderful and I mean wonderful nurses looked after dad - nothing was too much trouble & we really couldn't have asked for more.
Whilst we sat in dad's room we could hear staff in the corridor and it was evident they all loved their job.
Thank you Pennine Lodge for making dad's last few days so comfortable.

We would definitely recommend Pennine Lodge to everyone.

My grandmother moved in approx. 7 months ago. There was some expected teething problems when first arrived as the staff got to know her, since then nothing is too much trouble.

The staff work tirelessly to try and do their best for each and every person. Is it always perfect? No, but they always listen to any concerns and try to sort them out. The regular staff treat my grandmother as if she is their family member and always try to do whatever they can to make her stay as pleasurable as possible.

After a few teething problems my grandma has settled in well. Most of the staff are great and interactive and you can tell they care. I do think the activities are great and keep my grandma involved. The food is always of a high standard and her room is always kept clean and tidy.

My Mum went to live in Pennine Lodge, Harraby, Carlisle at the beginning of August after 2 months of being in hospital. My sister and I viewed Pennine Lodge prior to my Mum moving in and felt very comfortable and at ease that our Mum would be cared for there. My Mum received the best care and nothing was too much trouble. Sadly Mum passed away this week, but their care and attention were amazing from start to finish.

My wife receives excellent and considerate care at Pennine Lodge. All the staff are unfailingly polite and caring towards my wife. She now requires nursing care which has not led to any reduction in her level of care. When my wife came to Pennine Lodge in July 2024 we were both apprehensive but we soon realised that she could not be anywhere better.

My dad received end-of-life care at Pennine Lodge in August. He had spent 8 weeks in hospital and had to be moved when they couldn't do anything further for him. At the time, Mam and I were devastated he couldn't remain in hospital.
We looked at 4 care homes in the Carlisle area and, for us, Pennine Lodge felt right not just because of the facilities but because the staff were welcoming, sympathetic and caring towards us.

Sadly, Dad was only with us for 6 more days when he moved into Pennine Lodge, but in those 6 days, he was much more peaceful than in the hospital. The staff were so caring and respectful towards Dad and us, they made his last days just that little bit more bearable. Thank you.

We looked at six different care homes in the area before choosing Pennine Lodge as our first choice for our mother who has dementia.
There is something about Pennine Lodge that makes it stand out the home has a warmth and homeliness that feels very special.
The staff are outstanding in the sensitivity and kindness they have shown to our mother in their care for her as she settles in as well as for us, her family.

We are so happy that our mother was offered a space here.
