My nan was admitted to Highgrove due to her advancing dementia.
The staff took her in, showed her kindness and dignity in our family's hour of need. They were amazing with her, eased her distress and treated her as if she were their own family. They made this hard situation easy. We felt safe and content
she was in good hands. Cannot thank you enough. Amazing all around.

Utterly let down by this 'care' home.
Failed my mam, unsupportive of her needs, challenging her when she is sun downing! Totally escalating the issue rather than being professional, calm and caring.
They say they are very experienced with alzheimers and sun downing - not.
Karen is a fabulous, caring,
kind but other managers are childish, unprofessional and uncaring.
Have received threat after threat from management re fees and the threat of a 28 day notice which they are now about to issue!
Dont get old, infirm, the future is diabolical
Heartbroken for my poor mam
Reply from Angela Moore, Manager at Highgrove Residential HomeWe are very sorry to read your review about your experience and to hear how upset you are about your mum's experience. This is not the standard of care we aim to provide, and we take concerns like this extremely seriously.

We are proud of our team and the care they provide in sometimes challenging circumstances. We would want to fully understand what has happened here.
Supporting residents living with Alzheimer's, including during periods of sundowning, requires patience, understanding and specialist care, and we are sorry to hear that this has not been your experience. We also understand how distressing conversations around fees and notices can be, during an already difficult time, we are sorry if this has added to your worry.

Please could we ask you to contact us directly so we can fully investigate your concerns and work towards resolving this for you. Your feedback is important to us, and we are committed to ensuring all residents receive the care & dignity they deserve.

Highgrove and its staff are amazing and genuinely care. I could not wish for anywhere better for my mother to be. She is cared for and looked after so well. It is a daunting thing to happen when a relative goes into care, but I shouldn't have worried. My mother, who had become a 'bag of bones' & unkempt,
has put 1 stone on, looks well, and so cared for. Thanks to all at Highgrove.
PS The entertainment & games are excellent.

Mam has been in Highgrove for rehab after a stroke, the staff are wonderful both to me and my mam, the food mam has really enjoyed, and my mam can be funny with her food at home, so well done to all kitchen staff as well. The home is lovely and clean. The rooms are also clean, and the furniture is great.
Thanks again to all you have given my mam.

My mum had to come into Highgrove for rehabilitation after suffering a broken hip. She is 102 years old and was lucky to survive but even luckier to be placed in such a caring environment. She was there for a total of 6 weeks and recovered sufficiently to be able to go home with support . The care she
received was outstanding from everyone but she had a lovely bond with several members of staff. The management team were very professional and communication fabulous . . Unfortunately since leaving her health deteriorated and has been placed in another care home as there was no place at Highgrove, we are gutted as a family ! The carers are equally lovely where she is but the environment isn't in the same league . Thankyou for all your care we are very grateful and wish she could have returned to your care

Highgrove is a care home of the highest level, made so by all the staff. Dad came here in January 2024 from difficult times, following 8 months in previous care homes. Highgrove management made time for me to discuss the situation and what they could do for Dad. From the start, the management/senior
team did everything to support us, in getting Dad moved and working to settle him in. It wasn't easy, but they didn't give up on him. Not only did I finally feel supported, but I knew that Dad would receive the care he needed. I was given constant updates, the doctors and nurses that do the weekly rounds here are just as supportive.
Dementia care is so difficult but everyone within Highgrove was so warm and friendly. Just a lovely care home, where all within work their hardest. I can't thank the staff enough for the care, understanding, compassion and support. The lengths they went to to ensure Dad was supported throughout, right up to his end-of-life care. Thank you will never seem enough.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.843)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.843) out of 10 for Highgrove Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.843 for Highgrove Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (254 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 274 Ratings = 4.843
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highgrove Residential Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 67 registered maximum number of service users is 13.4, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
