Completed in Spring 2017, Goodson Lodge Care Centre features a specialist home environment, designed specifically to enhance quality of life. Located close to the town centre in Trowbridge this homely care centre offers accommodation for 64 residents.

Split over two floors, this modern care centre offers compassionate care in an environment that has been designed sensitively with residents’ comfort and well-being in mind. Staverton and Yarnbrook households provide care for individuals living with dementia. Edington and Westwood households offer residential care on the dedicated residential floor.

Across all households, residents have access to a comfortable and homely living area, including a lounge, kitchen and dining room as well as ‘The Street’ which boasts a cinema, coffee shop and hairdressers. The spacious bedrooms all have stylish en-suite ‘wet room’ bathrooms and most have views of the landscaped gardens. With all this and more Goodson Lodge Care Centre offers an exceptional home environment.

Goodson Lodge offers a host of activities for residents to get involved with. Examples of current activities include:

Weekly menus feature a variety of balanced dishes including meat, fish, fresh seasonal vegetables and salads. Vegetables and herbs that have been home-grown by residents in the garden’s raised planters are also incorporated into the menu seasonally, creating tasty meals with added satisfaction. On top of this, you will always find a freshly-baked cake in the coffee shop along with fabulous afternoon teas. Fresh fruit is always available in fruit baskets throughout the home.

Your fees cover several areas while in their care.
These services are: Personal care, accommodation,
utilities, use of communal areas, meals, drinks and
snacks, laundry (excluding dry cleaning),
housekeeping, maintenance and activities run by the
home.


Services NOT included in price are: dentistry, chiropody,
physiotherapy, occupational therapy, opticians, hairdressing,
medications, toiletries, clothing, newspapers/magazines.
During your stay, you may need to purchase additional goods
and services. If they are able to provide such goods and
services, they will tell you how much these goods and services
will cost and they expect that you will pay for these goods and
services at the time you request them.
They can accompany loved ones to private appointments,
however the fee attached to this is £21 per hour. Where private taxi
services are used for transportation to appointments the cost should
be paid for by yourself.

A very welcoming care home. The staff were most helpful and cheerful. Very well furnished and very clean and tidy. There seems to be plenty for the residents to do, with lots of activities.
I have not seen my sister so happy and content for a long time.
We were also offered tea and biscuits which
was very pleasant in lovely surroundings.
It was a very windy afternoon but the gardens were very nice and we enjoyed our afternoon.

My first visit, very welcoming and friendly staff. Bedrooms well furnished and very clean. Public areas beautifully furnished and clean and modern, and all well staffed.
There seemed to be plenty of activities for residents if they want to join in.
Pleasant gardens with nice seating areas and residents
encouraged to get into gardens for fresh air.
Excellent care home.

My mother has a particularly aggressive form of dementia, causing her and others serious problems.
Goodson Lodge knowing this accepted her.
They are slowly dealing with these issues and I can see the improvement.
Goodson Lodge is warm, clean, comfortable and homely.
The staff, all, are caring, pleasant
and courteous with all residents and visitors.
The experienced manager and senior staff are superb - which is reflected in the home generally.

Mum has settled relatively well. Her room is homely.
On a negative, she is a smoker and does not like to be given one cigarette at a time, the only other negative is how she feels, she has nothing to occupy her, sadly she now cannot watch TV, read or knit. So an appropriate activity would be good
for her.
The staff are lovely.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review, I am pleased that your mum has settled into our home. I can confirm that a dedicated activity coordinator started at the home this week, who is busy preparing individualised action plans for each resident.


Unfortunately, as we care for people who can be forgetful, we ask that items such as cigarettes and lighters are stored safely, but residents' access is not restricted. It also forms a central part of our person-centred working; enabling people who smoke to continue to do so in a safe way.

It was with trepidation and a strong feeling of guilt that I finally decided a care home was necessary for my husband.
After much research, I decided Goodson Lodge would best suit his requirements. It has been the right choice, exceeding my expectations.
My husband appears to have developed a new
spark of life. I have to thank the staff who encourage him to interact with fellow residents and help him to maintain his independence and dignity.
Once again he is enjoying his food, having a choice of menu.
Staff find the time to talk to him, find out his interests and walk with him the garden.
When I visit he is neatly dressed and clean. Goodson Lodge is bright, welcoming and thoughtfully planned and furnished with high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, providing a safe and attractive environment.
It is such a relief to me, to know I made the best choice for my husband's care and happiness.

This lovely new home is setting new standards of care. OSJCT at Goodson Lodge is flexible to residents' needs and clearly focussed on their care. My mother went to live in the home the first day it opened and the management and carers have made extra efforts to accommodate my mother's smoking, one of
her few remaining pleasures. The secure (and very pleasant) gardens mean that she is completely safe to smoke outdoors on her own, which is not possible in any other home we visited. The entire place is designed for dementia patients and the staff are very gentle, caring people.


I have rated the activities as "poor" simply because they haven't started up yet, as the home has only been open for 3 weeks. I have confidence that they will be good once they have started. I do think that activities will be a key ingredient to the happiness of the residents.

Fantastic 'new build', containing its own hair salon, sweet shop and cinema. Rooms are very spacious with en suite shower and toilet, with own room, safe, tv, etc. Excellent food, with a wonderful dining area. Lovely thought out, secure gardens. The staff are impeccable, nothing ever too much trouble.

Mum needed urgent respite care following a sudden progression of her dementia. Mum was the first resident to arrive on the first day of Goodson Lodge Care Centre opening and was greeted at the threshold. The accommodation is beautiful and carefully well thought out for providing the very best of care.
All of the staff were very welcoming and helpful. On my request staff managed to provide mum with a bath and hair wash which was much appreciated. Because of the urgency mum's admission, we were not aware of the need to label clothing which obviously contributed towards the difficulty of washing clothes, but on request, these were immediately taken for washing once I had sorted them out. A more efficient method of entrance at the weekends would be useful.

This report is provided at the end of the first week of residence. The warmth of the welcome was very appreciated. The interaction between the resident and the staff and other residents is much in evidence which is a very good feature. The individualised care is noticeable. All staff have been helpful
and attentive. We are delighted that our relative has settled in Goodson Lodge so easily. The food and drink is good and occasional egg and bacon at breakfast would be excellent with her.

Mandy

Mandy Palfrey

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2021

Amanda has over 25 years’ experience in Health and Social Care and came to Goodson recently from another OSJCT home where she was also Home Manager.  Having worked for various companies including the private sector, Amanda has worked her way up within her role from a Carer to a registered Manager.
Amanda started her career working nights in a nursing home, which she did for 8 years and thoroughly enjoyed. Amanda then started to work as a Carer on days and this is when she really started to blossom in her role as a leader. 
Amanda joined The Orders of St John Care Trust in 2008, she soon became a Care Leader, Head of Care, then a registered Manager in 2014. During this time Amanda has completed various Health and Social Care Qualifications and completed Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Health and Social Care before taking on the Registered Manager's role. 
Amanda sets high standards within her team, she encourages her team to learn new skills and knowledge, which also helps them to succeed, but more importantly to provide excellent care. This was demonstrated when she won ‘Leader of the Year’ award in 2018.

Fran

Fran Turner

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2017

Fran has worked in the care sector for 26 years. She started her career in a nursing environment, where she was a Carer before progressing to Senior Carer.


She then went to work with adults with learning disabilities as a support worker.


Fran started at Goodson Lodge in 2017 as a Night Care Leader and in 2020 went on to become Head of Dementia Care before becoming the Deputy Home Manager in 2022.


Throughout her career, she has gained many qualifications and recently completed her Level 5 in Health and Social Care.
Also, in October 2022 she was presented with a Trust 'Dedicated to Exceptional Care' award.


Fran absolutely loves her job and she has a real passion for enriching residents’ lives with meaningful engagement.


She loves being able to make a difference and making every day a positive experience for the residents.
Fran says she couldn’t imagine herself doing anything else.

Amal

Amal Xavier

Job Title: Bursar Joined: 2021

Amal has a degree in Hotel Management and an MBA Master's degree in Human Resources.


He spent over 20 years in the hospitality industry working in several management roles and therefore has extensive experience in customer relations.
He is also currently studying towards his Association of Accounting Technicians from Wiltshire College so he brings a wealth of skills and expertise to the role of Bursar at Goodson Lodge.


Amal is pleased that in his role he actively supports residents' with their finances and contractual arrangements. He also has responsibility for the catering, maintenance, administration and housekeeping teams and ensuring that in their service delivery for the residents, OSJCT values are upheld.


He prides himself on keeping up to date with training and best practices with the ultimate aim that residents are happy in their homes.

Alex

Alex Damon

Job Title: Events Manager Joined: 2019

Alex worked in the kitchen of another care home whilst he was studying TV & Film at college, and he is now the Events Manager at Goodson Lodge.


He is proud to have recently won an OSJCT award for 'Outstanding Community Engagement' and says that he thoroughly enjoys his time in the home because he loves making a difference in residents' lives.


Making them smile each day and seeing them enjoy the daily activities keeps him going, along with his toddler twins!


Alex is always open to ideas and loves to try new activities with the residents.
