Completed in Spring 2017, Goodson Lodge Care Centre features a specialist home environment, designed specifically to enhance quality of life. Located close to the town centre in Trowbridge this homely care centre offers accommodation for 64 residents.

Split over two floors, this modern care centre offers compassionate care in an environment that has been designed sensitively with residents’ comfort and well-being in mind. Staverton and Yarnbrook households provide care for individuals living with dementia. Edington and Westwood households offer residential care on the dedicated residential floor.

Across all households, residents have access to a comfortable and homely living area, including a lounge, kitchen and dining room as well as ‘The Street’ which boasts a cinema, coffee shop and hairdressers. The spacious bedrooms all have stylish en-suite ‘wet room’ bathrooms and most have views of the landscaped gardens. With all this and more Goodson Lodge Care Centre offers an exceptional home environment.

Goodson Lodge offers a host of activities for residents to get involved with. Examples of current activities include:

Weekly menus feature a variety of balanced dishes including meat, fish, fresh seasonal vegetables and salads. Vegetables and herbs that have been home-grown by residents in the garden’s raised planters are also incorporated into the menu seasonally, creating tasty meals with added satisfaction. On top of this, you will always find a freshly-baked cake in the coffee shop along with fabulous afternoon teas. Fresh fruit is always available in fruit baskets throughout the home.

These services are: Personal care, accommodation,

Services NOT included in price are: dentistry, chiropody,
physiotherapy, occupational therapy, opticians, hairdressing,
medications, toiletries, clothing, newspapers/magazines.
During your stay, you may need to purchase additional goods
and services. If they are able to provide such goods and
services, they will tell you how much these goods and services
will cost and they expect that you will pay for these goods and
services at the time you request them.
They can accompany loved ones to private appointments,
however the fee attached to this is £21 per hour. Where private taxi
services are used for transportation to appointments the cost should
be paid for by yourself.

My mother has been a resident of this lovely care home for 16 months. The carers are wonderful & I'm delighted with the level of care she receives. She enjoys many of the activities laid on, especially animal visits & anything musical. The menus are varied and tasty. Everything is kept clean. The decor
throughout the building is very pleasing & the garden pretty & well-kept. Her 91st birthday was celebrated with a cake & gifts. Knowing she is safe & so well-cared for gives me peace of mind every day.

I am an attorney for two wonderful residents of Goodson Lodge. They were both struggling to live independantly and chose to move to Goodson Lodge. The staff are warm and friendly and my clients who I was very fond of, both benefitted hugely from living with such a caring community. There was plenty
to do and it provided them with somewhere that would look after them physically and emotionally. Previously the husband had been caring for his wife who had dementia and his health had begun to suffer as a result. Goodson Lodge was able to care for them both despite their very different needs and enable them to remain together as they had been for almost all their lives. I would recommend Goodson Lodge. Unfortunately they have both passed away but staff members attended their funerals even though it was not work time which shows the staff's devotion to their residents.

I was so impressed with the home when I visited to source a short respite stay for my dad and the actual experience far exceeded my expectations. I cannot fault how much one member of staff does to ensure his stay was a success. It took dad a while to settle and was quite anxious and confused with his
dementia but the level of care and especially the night staff was exemplary in making him feel at home. He loved the food and the person with his never ending but relevant activities - which mum even enjoyed when she came to visit him. We will most definitely use the services of this home again in the future and recommend to anyone.

Both my parents suffered from Alzheimer's and my mother was physically very frail. With a heavy heart and much guilt my siblings and I took the decision to move them into Goodson Lodge in 2023 when they were in their late 80's. It was the best thing we could have done. Having become very isolated in
their own home they had a better social life at Goodson than they'd had for years, both taking part in the musical activities, and enjoying chat and banter with the staff throughout the day. Previously it was a struggle to get a GP appointment but at Goodson the same GP visited weekly and got to know them both. They constantly praised the staff, the rooms, the furniture and the gardens. Having them so happy and well cared for was a massive weight off my and my siblings' shoulders, and we were able to enjoy our visits with them rather than fearing what would we would find when we walked in the door. We are so grateful for the care they received from the Goodson staff in their final year.

My mum moved into Goodson Lodge in October 2024. All the staff are amazing and it's very reassuring that many of the staff are the same staff who looked after an elderly friend from June 2021 to November 2022. Everyone is accommodating, helpful and very welcoming. Mum enjoys all her meals and participates
in all the activities. She has made some new friends and is never alone. There is always someone to talk to and be with, she's not lonely anymore since moving into Goodson Lodge. My brother and I have peace of mind that mum is cared for, safe, warm and content in a beautiful care home with compassionate staff.

I can't praise the management and care team at Goodson Lodge highly enough. The home has such a lovely inviting feel and everyone goes out of their way to make the residents and families feel welcome. The transformation in Mum since she moved in approx. 4 weeks ago has been incredible. The staff and
management took great care in making sure things were in place when Mum arrived, and it didn't take long before she settled which was such a relief. We now have peace of mind that she is safe and happy and being cared for really well. Goodson is a beautiful space, with lots going on and the fact that we can drop in and out, and join in with the many activities whenever suits us is great. Highly recommended.

My mum and dad moved into Goodson Lodge 18 months ago. They are set up with a shared bedroom - Goodson Lodge team were very helpful and flexible, enabling a second room to be set up as a 'sitting room' with many pieces of their own furniture, ornaments, pictures etc. - these were essential requirements
for a couple who have been married for 66 years!
The staff are very friendly, providing a high standard of personal care. The premises are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness. Communication with next-of-kin is excellent, always responding positively to questions or requests. There is a wide and varied activities programme to meet the needs and interests of all residents, including many events in which family and friends can participate.
Possible areas for improvement:
- Induction process on day 1 and in early weeks
- A few other aspects

We have found Goodson Lodge to be an excellent care home with a warm and friendly atmosphere and good facilities. All of the staff are caring, friendly and welcoming and the care is outstanding which is what really counts. Nothing is too much trouble and the care is given in a supportive, compassionate
and dignified way.
There are always activities going on for those that want to partake and the time is taken to find out about the resident's interests and what they would like to do. The food always looks and smells delicious with a varied menu and plenty of drinks and cakes between meals.
In the 6 weeks that my father has been at Goodson Lodge, he has improved beyond belief both physically and mentally and is happy at Goodson Lodge and for that, we cannot thank the whole team enough.
We would highly recommend this home.

My sister has been a resident at Goodson Lodge for 9 months. When we visit her, we are greeted courteously by friendly and cheerful staff. The lodge is always very clean and tidy. The residents' facilities are comfortable and spacious. Their food is wholesome and the menu varied with tea and cake between
meals. The staff are very attentive to the residents at all times. A birthday party was arranged for my sister by the staff. This was most appreciated.

Our mother has been a resident at Goodson Lodge for three years, and we (my sister, brother and I) have had no cause to complain at all. We were lucky that during the pandemic we could find her a place there.
The facilities are comfortable and equipped with TV, library and sitting rooms for activities.
A full programme of activities is published each week; sometimes they are open to residents' families to attend (e.g. musical evenings).
Meals are varied and our mother gained a stone during the first year - must have been the regular tea and cake!
Staff are always cheerful and helpful, and also alert to changes in residents' care needs.
In February our mother had her 99th birthday; Goodson arranged a birthday treat in the form of a trip to a local garden centre for coffee and cake.
Overall, we'd recommend Goodson to anyone looking for good care for a family member in need.

We feel very lucky to have found Goodson Lodge. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and the facilities are light and modern and always clean and tidy, and there are cosy sitting areas with nice views of the gardens. We are very pleased with the way my mother has settled in (even though it is a difficult
decision to move from your own home). Any comments or concerns are always listened to by the care home managers and actioned, and the staff are cheerful and helpful. The weekly activities are incredibly varied and fun, but there is never any pressure to join in. The residents are treated as individuals and the emphasis is on making them feel like it is their own home.

Overall, I am happy with the care my mother receives. Unfortunately, my mother is not happy there, this does not at all reflect on the staff, she would not be happy anywhere! I have always found the staff very polite and helpful, they keep me up to date with my mother's health and welfare needs.

My sister-in-law went into Goodson exactly a year ago after 17 years on her own following my brother’s death. Six months previously, she had broken her femur and so there was no way she could live on her own again. Goodson has been a real experience for her - especially all the activities. She seems
willing to try anything and has enjoyed so many different experiences. She was an international athlete and has represented Great Britain. Goodson arranged for her to visit her old athletic club of which she was a founder member. This was very special for her. She has been overwhelmed by the kindness and care she has received. All this means that I know she is safe and cared for in lovely surroundings into which I and my family are made welcome.

My mother has settled very well at Goodson Lodge. The carers are always friendly and cheerful and treat residents with dignity. There are plenty of activities for residents covering a wide range of interests. The rooms are clean and welcoming and there is always plenty of food. Care is tailored to the
needs of individual residents. I would highly recommend Goodson Lodge.

My mum has lived at Goodson for 18+ months and continues to say she is happy to be there. I have found that her wishes are respected on a daily basis. Her care needs, on a daily basis, are given with great kindness and consideration. The staff are always cheerful and encouraging. Although energy levels
do not always allow my mum to participate in activities she says it’s nice to know they are there. As a family to join family events organised always brings fun and a chance for togetherness. Access to the home has improved over the past weeks.

My aunt has been a resident of Goodson Lodge for 4+ years and has a lovely ensuite room with a view of the garden and children playing at the school. She was in the home during Covid and although we could not initially visit, the staff made sure that we kept in touch. Once lockdown rules relaxed we
were able to visit her in a separate room with testing, hygiene measures and masks in place. The staff are kind and caring and always have the resident's welfare in mind. Calling for medical attention when necessary and keeping next of kin informed. She used to enjoy joining in the various trips and activities but unfortunately, at 96, doesn't now feel well enough, having been in hospital recently where she became quite confused. Fortunately, she is now settled back in her room and happy to be in familiar surroundings with people that she knows. Grateful thanks to all at Goodson Lodge.

Mandy

Mandy Palfrey

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2021

Amanda has over 25 years’ experience in Health and Social Care and came to Goodson recently from another OSJCT home where she was also Home Manager.  Having worked for various companies including the private sector, Amanda has worked her way up within her role from a Carer to a registered Manager.
Amanda started her career working nights in a nursing home, which she did for 8 years and thoroughly enjoyed. Amanda then started to work as a Carer on days and this is when she really started to blossom in her role as a leader. 
Amanda joined The Orders of St John Care Trust in 2008, she soon became a Care Leader, Head of Care, then a registered Manager in 2014. During this time Amanda has completed various Health and Social Care Qualifications and completed Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Health and Social Care before taking on the Registered Manager's role. 
Amanda sets high standards within her team, she encourages her team to learn new skills and knowledge, which also helps them to succeed, but more importantly to provide excellent care. This was demonstrated when she won ‘Leader of the Year’ award in 2018.

Fran

Fran Turner

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2017

Fran has worked in the care sector for 26 years. She started her career in a nursing environment, where she was a Carer before progressing to Senior Carer.


She then went to work with adults with learning disabilities as a support worker.


Fran started at Goodson Lodge in 2017 as a Night Care Leader and in 2020 went on to become Head of Dementia Care before becoming the Deputy Home Manager in 2022.


Throughout her career, she has gained many qualifications and recently completed her Level 5 in Health and Social Care.
Also, in October 2022 she was presented with a Trust 'Dedicated to Exceptional Care' award.


Fran absolutely loves her job and she has a real passion for enriching residents’ lives with meaningful engagement.


She loves being able to make a difference and making every day a positive experience for the residents.
Fran says she couldn’t imagine herself doing anything else.

Amal

Amal Xavier

Job Title: Bursar Joined: 2021

Amal has a degree in Hotel Management and an MBA Master's degree in Human Resources.


He spent over 20 years in the hospitality industry working in several management roles and therefore has extensive experience in customer relations.
He is also currently studying towards his Association of Accounting Technicians from Wiltshire College so he brings a wealth of skills and expertise to the role of Bursar at Goodson Lodge.


Amal is pleased that in his role he actively supports residents' with their finances and contractual arrangements. He also has responsibility for the catering, maintenance, administration and housekeeping teams and ensuring that in their service delivery for the residents, OSJCT values are upheld.


He prides himself on keeping up to date with training and best practices with the ultimate aim that residents are happy in their homes.

Alex

Alex Damon

Job Title: Events Manager Joined: 2019

Alex worked in the kitchen of another care home whilst he was studying TV & Film at college, and he is now the Events Manager at Goodson Lodge.


He is proud to have recently won an OSJCT award for 'Outstanding Community Engagement' and says that he thoroughly enjoys his time in the home because he loves making a difference in residents' lives.


Making them smile each day and seeing them enjoy the daily activities keeps him going, along with his toddler twins!


Alex is always open to ideas and loves to try new activities with the residents.
