I was very lucky to remove my husband from this care home. Had issues during his residency which I raised with Manager and social worker. My husband left in November 2023 and is settled in another care home. I had reason to go back to Maple Court to pick up a document last month. The place smelled of
urine and garlic - it was 10:30 am. I was told the chef left months ago and a carer - not a qualified cook - had taken over in the kitchen. No one cares at all. I felt sorry for the lovely residents.
Reply from Paul Millar, Marketing Manager at Maple Court Care HomeMany thanks for taking the time to review our home. All feedback is welcomed and allows us to continually develop our service. From time to time odours can be prevalent within a care setting however they are never for long and are cleared quickly within Maple Court. We have two chefs in post at Maple Court who are both qualified. I am disappointed that you feel your experience at Maple Court was a negative one however we are delighted for your husband that he has settled in at his new home.

Very pleased with the overall care. Suggestions for improvement - room spray to mask smells in corridors. More private small rooms for the family to play games, colour in etc with residents. More activities ie dominoes played with residents, chair yoga etc.

In respect of the points raised, we have just undergone an industrial carpet cleaning programme and carpet replacement in some areas. We have employed a new team of activities leads during January and we are making the quiet room (in addition to the conservatory) available month round in order that visitors can spend private time with their loved ones away from the bedrooms and lounges. Your kind words are greatly appreciated and I will of course pass them on to the Maple Court team.

Unfortunately, my mum was here for only 5 weeks before she died. In my opinion the staff were nice enough on the whole, but the care she received was appalling, they ignored her, and nobody ever spoke to her. My mother suffered with COPD, and Asthma amongst other things, so was vulnerable. My mum was
kept in bed the majority of the time too. My mother died on June 22nd, and my now ex-friend came up that day when she died to ID her body in my place as I couldn't bring myself to do it myself and whilst he was there, he stole my mum's phone and your staff did not inform me what he had done until two weeks later. I informed the police, but unfortunately, he got away with it... as usual and this is for the reason that I cannot remember the names of the two members of staff who told me he had stolen it.
In my opinion, Maple Court although it looks like a nice place, is nothing to shout from the rooftops about! I wish I could give 0 starts out of 5 because it's what it deserves in my opinion!
Reply from Paul Millar, Marketing Manager at Maple Court Care HomeMany thanks for taking the time to review our home. All feedback is welcomed and allows us to continually develop our service.
We have investigated the points raised in respect of the care given during Mum's stay and the procedures that were followed in her final hours and would be happy to discuss this in detail with you to better understand what warrants your poor review.
We would also welcome the opportunity to discuss the behaviour of your nominated visitor which was difficult and inappropriate to deal with at a difficult time for all.
We are sorry for your loss and please accept our sincere condolences.

I was very impressed with Dad's quality of care, especially when it came to end of life.
They did their very best to keep him comfortable, nothing was too much trouble! Their generosity extended to me for the time I spent there,

Mum received excellent care when in Maple Court, I would say, far better than when she was in the hospital. It was good to see the same members of staff as they tried very hard to get her to eat and take her tablets and supplements as her dementia was getting worse. Towards the end of her life, she
was bedbound, and they looked after her very well, regarding keeping her clean and assisting when needed to open her bowels, etc. I would not hesitate to recommend this care home to friends and family.

Unfortunately my grandmother was here for 4 years. In my opinion, the care was appalling, the management were useless, and I was not informed when my gran suffered several unexplained injuries, such as a black eye! I asked how it happened and no one could tell me. My gran suffers with dementia, she
has limited communication, so is extremely vulnerable. I asked her if someone had hit her and she replied 'yes'. On another occasion, a man was found naked in my gran's bedroom during the night. The social worker informed our family, 2 weeks after the incident happened. Maple Court did not tell me. My gran was not taken to a hospital to be examined and I had to call the police myself. My gran was kept in bed the majority of the time, she was absolutely filthy and despite raising my concerns several times, nothing changed. I have challenged the 'good' rating with CQC as I personally have very serious concerns about the welfare of the residents.
In my opinion, Maple Court is not safe for vulnerable people.
Reply from Paul Millar, Marketing Manager at Maple Court Care HomeDear Deborah
Many thanks for taking the time to review our care home. All feedback is welcomed and allows us to continually develop our service. I do however dispute your point in respect of the standard of care. In the latest CQC report dated May 2023 Maple Court maintained the rating of GOOD in areas Caring, Safe, Responsive and Effective with the rating in Well Led being upgraded to GOOD following the 2-day inspection which was unannounced.
We are sorry that you feel that the service at Maple Court did not meet your expectations but are pleased that your grandmother is settling well in her new home.

My experience of Maple Court Care Home has been good - my mum was there for a year before moving to a nursing home. The staff are caring and the management is very good. No care home is perfect but the team at Maple Court are friendly, helpful and most importantly, view the resident as someone to be
cared for and looked after. I'm very happy to recommend Maple Court.

My mum was admitted to Maple Court in October 2022 and stayed, apart from a stint in the hospital, for four months until she sadly passed away in February 2023.
In my experience, the care home staff have been totally sensitive to Mum's needs and very supportive of her during what turned out to be her
final months. They proved to be caring and professional at all times and Mum was always treated with dignity and respect.
I was kept fully informed of Mum's condition and was alerted in good time when mum started to fail so that I could be with her at the end.
My opinion of this care home is totally positive and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

My mum loves being here, two and a half years now and is very comfortable, she calls it home which is a great comfort to us knowing she's happy and safe there. She spends time colouring and reading books as well as sitting along with the other residents in the lounge. She likes the fact she sees the
staff as they go about their job. She says they are very friendly and caring and the food is lovely. We as a family are happy with the home and all the staff because she's safely cared for.
We would recommend the home to anyone who's looking for a professional but home from home environment! Thank you to all of the staff.

Maple Court is an excellent care home. My husband has had the most brilliant, caring and dignity for himself by all the staff and management these past four and a half years. They could not have cared for him any better, I would say by what I have heard about other care homes in Scarborough, Maple Court
and Castle Grange are far superior to others.

Our mum has recently become a resident at Maple Court. Obviously, because of Covid, things haven't been as they usually would be but the we have found all the staff extremely welcoming and always easy to contact on the phone. We also had a WhatsApp call where the staff did a great job even though my
mum didn't realise what was going on! When visiting the staff have been great and have always got time to speak to you.
Last night a staff member called both me and my brother to do with my mum. He was very friendly and clear and explained things perfectly. He really knew my mum.
We've been very impressed and a big thank you to all the staff at Maple Court for all their care.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.456)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.456) out of 10 for Maple Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.456 for Maple Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (187 Excellents x 5) + (46 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (18 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 261 Ratings = 4.456
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Maple Court Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
