Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My father was fortunate enough to spend the last four weeks or so of his life in this absolutely fantastic establishment. He became ill with the after effects of Covid in July 2022 and, after a few weeks in hospital he was able to move into Maplewood Court. It is difficult to know what to say without
seeming to go over the top. This home is akin to a 5 star hotel. The facilities are outstanding and my father had a lovely, comfortable and quiet en-suite facility. His room was excellent, but this high standard was exceeded by the care, dedication and sheer professionalism of the wonderful staff, all of whom are totally committed to their work. My father was 96 years old when he entered Maplewood Court and his health was deteriorating rapidly. The care and attention he received was of the highest quality possible. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff; they tended to his every need. Shortly before he passed, he told me that he was so pleased to be in Maplewood Court. A really exceptional establishment!
Reply from Joanna Mazza, General Manager at Maplewood CourtThank you so much for taking the time to leave Maplewood Court a review. It was an absolute privilege to be given the opportunity to care for your father even though for a short time.
I will ensure your wonderful comments are passed on to the team as it is so important for them to hear how much they have been valued by both our residents and their families.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.951) out of 10 for Maplewood Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.951 for Maplewood Court is calculated as follows: ( (296 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 309 Ratings = 4.951
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Maplewood Court is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2022

I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1994 and began my career working in a hospital in general medicine, before moving into more acute cardiac services working on Coronary Care.
I then became a Cardiac Research Nurse and spent time working on the Heart Protection Study in partnership with the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

I then moved into the private sector and worked as a Clinical Nurse Adviser working in primary care working my way up to Field Manager before moving into Elderly Care in 2007.

My ethos in my role is very much that with great teamwork and collaboration we can achieve anything for our residents and their families, and every single staff member contributes to the success of the home.

I have previously been nominated for Nurse Adviser of the Year at the Pf Awards and in elderly care, I was more recently nominated in Dementia Environment and Care Manager categories in both the National Dementia Awards and National Care Awards.

Our residents are at the centre of everything we do at Maplewood Court. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family – I have ten-year-old twin girls and I enjoy running approximately three times a week.

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2025

Originally from Poland, I moved to the UK in 2011 with a passion for making a difference in people’s lives. I studied Health and Social Care and knew early on that caring for older people was my calling. I began working in care homes at the age of 18 and have since progressed through various roles, from Healthcare Assistant to Assistant Practitioner, Unit Manager, and now Deputy Manager. I have always treated residents as I would my own family—with compassion, respect, and dignity. Working at Oakland Care allows me to continue doing what I love in a supportive, values-driven environment. I take great pride in being part of a team that truly puts people first, and I’m inspired every day by the positive impact we make in our residents’ lives.

Job Title: Senior Client Relations Manager Joined: 2022

I am delighted to have joined the Oakland Care family as Senior Client Relations Manager for Maplewood Court. My experience in the role goes back 11 years now, including the commissioning of a new care home. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than assisting families to explore full-time care options, whilst sharing insights during what is often a stressful time for them. Outside of work, my biggest passion has always been travel, which hopefully will become easier again in the fullness of time!

I’m very proud to be a part of the Oakland Care family. I originally trained as a photographer and photographic printer back in the days of film! From shooting family portraits in the studio one day to being in the darkroom the next, it was a varied job. Working for Oakland Care has been by far the most personally rewarding; helping residents and their families navigate what can be a difficult and stressful pathway to happiness gives me immense pleasure. Our residents are at the heart of everything we do here at Oakland Care, and I feel truly humbled to be a part of it. Outside of work, I enjoy getting out in the fresh air, either on my bike or walking in the countryside.
