Welcome to Oakham Grange, a family owned home in Oakham, Rutland, that challenges most people’s expectations of what a Residential Home with Nursing feels like, able to support those living with long term conditions such as dementia, complex nursing needs, long term and for short breaks (respite).

Wherever you have come from or the circumstances that have led you to Oakham Grange, everyone at the home is here to support you.

They understand thinking going anywhere new can create a mixture of feelings from excitement to worry, this is completely natural.

As a resident at Oakham Grange, you can allow yourself to come first. You will have the time and space to put your energy behind doing what you want, when you want and to live your life to its full potential:

• No more hoovering or changing bedding.
• All the pleasures of home-cooked fresh food, without the washing up.
• No hassle of sorting the electricity bill or paying the window cleaner.
• The time to smell the flowers and listen to bird songs.

Oakham Grange is designed to be your home and the nursing and care team are here to support you.

Home's background:

A family run business which has owned and managed care homes for more than 28 years.

They created Oakham Grange to be a home suitable for their own family members to live in. They are not an anonymous ‘grey’ corporate care company and you will soon get to know them all.

Their experienced leadership team is responsible for a small number of bespoke homes, so they can give each one their full support to deliver the highest quality care.

They are very proud that each of their homes is unique. They aim to be the care home of choice, in the communities they serve.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
This has been a very upsetting time actually having my Mum admitted into a care home. But it has been made easier with all the staff being helpful and being able to ring whenever. Mum is settling in now which is a big relief, loves the food and wine! Also, I am able to see Mum through a screen which
is helping with her settling in.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.681) out of 10 for Oakham Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.681 for Oakham Grange is calculated as follows: ( (207 Excellents x 5) + (64 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 282 Ratings = 4.681
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oakham Grange is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 registered maximum number of service users is 13.6, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2021

Hello, my name is Jesamy, and I am the General Manager here at Oakham Grange. I am a Registered Mental Health Nurse, having qualified at Robert Gordon’s University in 2007. I began my career working in Royal Cornhill Hospital in Aberdeen, in a functional assessment ward for those over 65 years of age who were experiencing acute mental health issues. I then moved on to working in a dementia assessment ward, and following that a challenging behaviour ward for gentlemen over the age of 65. Upon my return from maternity leave, I worked in various settings and then moved back home to Rutland where I took up a position as a nurse in a care home. I gained the experience and knowledge required to become the Clinical Lead nurse, which I absolutely loved.

I am so proud to say that I work at Oakham Grange, having been born in Oakham (back when Rutland Memorial Hospital still had a maternity unit and Dr Brentnall was in charge) and bought up in Uppingham. I am passionate about ensuring that we provide the highest standard of care possible to the people of Rutland and beyond. I believe that people should be treated with the same love and care that I would like to see my own family treated with and I strive to make sure that this is the case for all our residents at Oakham Grange.

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2020

At the age of 17, I started my Dip H E in adult nursing at Leeds University. I qualified in 1999 and started my first job in nursing in Ward 15 at Glenfield Hospital, which was a rehabilitation ward.

I worked here for 18 months while waiting for a community nursing post to come up as this is what I really wanted to do. I started as a community nurse in April 2001, and this is where I have spent the last 19 years of my career, all in different guises. I was a triage nurse for 18 months for the community and latterly from 2014 worked for a service called ICS. This service was rolled out to provide a multidisciplinary team approach to enable people at home, rather than being admitted to the hospital. I met my 2 colleagues Liz and Chrissy working here approximately 12 years ago and now a new adventure begins for the 3 of us as nurse practitioners working together to provide nursing care at Oakham Grange. This is very exciting!! To be able to work as a professional with friends whom you have the utmost trust and belief in is very special. My aim as a nurse practitioner and Deputy Manager at Oakham Grange is to provide autonomous, person-centred care for our residents.
