Before working in care, my career spanned diverse industry sectors providing management, accounting, administrative and technical services. Now a registered manager with CQC for older people’s services, I first worked in care as commercial manager for Learning Disability Services some 13 years ago. I then found my passion and career ‘home’ when I took a role as care manager in a home for older people. Since then I have managed residential and nursing homes for older people living with and without dementia and love the different challenges that every day brings. I believe that supporting our staff is key to enabling our residents to live fulfilled and happy lives, and my passion is creating a home that becomes a community where families and friends are welcomed – a place people call ‘home’, that feels like ‘home’.
My Fondest Memory is of my father (not known for showing his emotions, and now sadly passed) greeting me at age 19 after some months away from home, by picking me up and swinging me around saying how he had missed me. It took me back to being a little girl when he used to swing me and my sisters around and we would wait in turn to be swung again.
I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1985 after which time I transferred to South Africa, where I spent a further three years in the profession.
In 1989, I decided to put the experience I had gained into practice, by joining the family business. Alongside my brother Tony, we set about successfully expanding the Markey Group into manufacturing, land development, student property and now health care.
We believe the success of Park View will be founded on the family values that we hold central to all our business. The three core strands to our values are, respecting each other, supporting one another and making a difference to individual’s lives, we hope that you and your families experience these values at Park View.
I am a customer-focussed Contract and Facilities Manager with a keen interest in the customer experience, either through designing physical environments and experiences, or by driving service and policy change to support a positive experience for all users.
I have experience in supporting the managements of a variety of different public-facing services, either directly through my own and admin support mechanisms, or via the facilities management function. Over time I have worked with a wide range of customers, staff, and stakeholders from all walks of life, all ages and abilities.
I am skilled negotiator and communicator; someone who is patient, compassionate, and takes time to understand people and their behaviours to determine requirements and approaches. I believe that maintaining positive internal and external relationships is key to a productive work environment, and that seeking out community and professional partnerships is essential to inform best practice and keep up to date, share resources and raise the profile of the business.
My Fondest Memory is of spending a week making flowers with paper plates and egg boxes and tissue paper so we could totally fill my grandmother’s (known as Dang) house full of flowers for her return from holiday on Mother’s day. Her face was a picture
I started my professional carer working in the home improvement industry, working originally in admin the moving into a sales role and leading two sales teams. After personal circumstances I decided to change my carer path to which I became passionate about the development of my team to provide a high quality standard of individually tailored care for each person that I co-support.
I worked with people with learning difficulties and challenging behaviours for seven years, four as a senior team leader where I oversaw individual care on a 1:1 basis. I wanted to expand my knowledge on other sectors of care ranging from dementia to nursing. Since arriving at Parkview in July 2019 I have gained knowledge and support to allow me to progress with confidence to my current position.
My Fondest Memory was of my grandad. He was known as ‘Banky’ from where somebody couldn’t pronounce his name properly. We would always visit him on a Saturday at noon and he would always sit in his chair where he would watch grandstand or watching the horse racing on channel 4. He loved sitting in that chair watching sport drinking his tea.
Hi my name is Emily hiam and I have worked at park view for a year and a half, I started working a care setting in 2016 in a small care home.
I then came to park view and felt like I fitted in straight away, I really enjoy being a part of the residents lives! And them a part of mine. I love working with my team and all the staff.
My Fondest Memory I have is of my great grand parents, and going to see them every Sunday playing games and picking apples from the apple tree.
Trained at Cheltenham Catering College straight from leaving school in 1982. Worked in a variety of silver service restaurants and Hotels. I then progressed my career to contract catering working in the kitchen sections (Pastry, Mains etc). I was then offered a trainee Catering Manager position with the contract catering company and cooked for the executive dining rooms and workforce, as well as the staff restaurant.
Following this I went to a joint position as a Management couple for Beefeater Restaurants. A career move was made to Unilever foods as a Catering Manager for the next 18 years, catering for executive dining rooms, special functions and over one thousand employees to feed daily. I moved on from this to start my own business as a food hygiene trainer (still am) and although I enjoyed this , I soon missed the Cooking and serving. My passion for cookery helped me make the decision to come and work at Park View when it was offered.
I have worked at Park View for 4 years and have not looked back. I enjoy using my culinary skills to bring exciting new nutritional meals to our Residents.
My Fondest Memory Sitting at my Nan’s kitchen table waiting for her special Toffee Mallow Rice Krispy cakes, made with her own homemade toffee and marshmallows.
I’m Lucy Wellbeing lead. For the last six years I have held two Wellbeing roles, previously working in Stroud. I moved into care from customer service roles after supporting a close friend as she died of cancer and I promised her I would get a job where I made a difference. I watched Park View being built and was delighted to get the position here. I absolutely love my job and feel it is a real priveledge to be working here at Parkview. My teacher always told me off for talking in class and said I wouldn’t get a job just by the ability to chat.. how wrong she was. I have a passion for making peoples day and making people smile.
I live locally in Tredworth with my two beautiful girls and my husband.
My Fondest Memory…
I only had my grandmother growing up as child. My mum’s parents had died before I was born and my dad’s dad died when I was too young to know him. I remember going to my grandmas house and sitting and chatting to her for hours. She always listened to me and I made her laugh. She always bought us bottles of coke but could never do the lid up properly I got very used to flat coke !
I left school and went straight into the army for 10 years and travelled the world which really opened my eyes. Since leaving the army I have learnt a number of trades but over the last 20 years have been working on buildings learning each different aspect. I enjoy the variety of working at Parkview because no two days are the same. I have 5 children and 11 grandchildren and lots of grey hair!
Fondest Memory, I remember going to my grandparents in the prefabs making dens with deckchairs in their flowery garden. I became known for eating the flowers.
I have worked in Care for many years working in different care homes and the hospital. I have worked at Park View since 2016 and started as a carer before being promoted up to Senior Carer but then I made the decision to move over into Housekeeping for our Apartments because it gives me a different perspective of caring for the residents and it gives me a great sense of satisfaction to know all the residents on my floor have a beautiful and clean environment to live in.
Fondest memory – my Nan had her snuff in her pocket and always cooked the best roast dinner – she always used to tell me, “Don’t forget to spray your ha’penny”
