Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 out of 10 for Park View Gloucester is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 17 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Park View Gloucester in Google's Search Results – more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.586 for Park View Gloucester is calculated as follows: ( (130 Excellents x 5) + (63 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 203 Ratings = 4.586

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 24 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 48 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews; 3.00 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 24 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 48 months. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.784 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Park View Gloucester is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3.00 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 20.4 positive Reviews (102 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 16 Reviews ÷ 20.4 Target = 0.784

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

9.4 Park View Gloucester has a Review Score of 9.4 (9.370) out of 10 and an Average Rating of 4.6 out of 5 from 17 Reviews over all time

Caring and responsive! My mum has been on the 1st floor for just over 12 months and the staff couldn’t have worked harder to ensure she settled in. Not surprisingly, her health has deteriorated over the year - I have been reassured though that the staff have not ignored these changes in her needs and ensured she received the proper treatment and care. A recent concerning incident was handled with the utmost care and professionalism - I can’t thank them enough for their help and support.

Flexible visiting hours. Friendly and welcoming staff. Bright rooms. Approachable and open to feedback and new ideas.

Many thanks for your comments. We hope we can continue to work together with your family to ensure Park View is a home for life for your Mum. Regards, the Team at Park View.

My parents recently spent just over 2 weeks in Park View Gloucester while I was away on holiday. They both have memory problems and my father needed help as he is physically struggling with mobility. However, their experience at Park View was very positive. These are their comments "Everyone was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was good and it didn't feel like a nursing home. The atmosphere was good as were the facilities". They had everything you could ask for ( mum loved the big bath). The staff were cheerful and pleasant also accommodating and ready for a laugh. We wouldn't hesitate to give Park View a recommendation to others and would be very happy to go back there at some stage

My Husband and I have been resident here since the 'home' opened in 2016. Since then things have changed quite a bit. Staffing has gone down quite a lot, fewer carers, and at night only about two carers for the whole home.
Food - the content of some meals is not very good.
The carers are mostly very caring.

Charlotte Potter, Manager at Park View Gloucester responded to this review on 17 Jul 2018:

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry to hear that you feel things are not as they were. We assess staffing levels weekly (and sometimes daily) in order to ensure we have the right number of staff and skill mix to meet our residents' needs. Currently, there are at least 8 staff in the home at night time - perhaps now would be a good time to re-open the discussion on moving your loved one to an area within the home where staffing levels are higher than on the residential floor. I have also passed your comments to our chef who will visit you to discuss how we can improve your personal menu offering.

My great gran is a resident at Park View and has been since March 2018.

My nan has settled in well since when we arrive to see her she is always happy and cheerful apart from when she has her grumpy days.

We have had some issues with the laundry which now has been sorted, but I have found that the staff are always pleasant and happy when the family and myself arrive to see my great gran.

We have had some issues recently when nan lost her glasses and her hearing aid. The glasses have not been found so we had to buy some new ones and her hearing aid remains lost at present and we are currently waiting for a reply from the manager about the replacement of this (we have been waiting for a reply 3 weeks now).

When Nan has a fall due to her not being able to remember she is not able to walk anymore or she has any concerns, the staff or the person in charge are very good at contacting the family and myself making us aware of what has happened or what the concern is.

Thank you for your feedback and it is lovely to hear that your Great Gran has settled so well and is always happy and cheerful. I am glad to hear we successfully ironed out the teething problems you experienced with your Great Gran's laundry. Further to our conversations, we do our best to ensure that residents remain united with their hearing aids and glasses - and we do find that sometimes our residents mislay them in odd places, however, most re-appear. As discussed, we are waiting for a response from the insurance company in this instance and we will keep all relevant people updated. There is further information in our service user guide, a further copy of which is available at reception. I am happy to hear that the staff have been keeping the family informed of any concerns.

I cannot find the words to express how grateful we are to the staff at Park View. Without their compassion and care, the last month of my father-in-law's life would have been very different. Nothing was too much trouble to them they listened and reacted with love and support not just for dad but also to us. Everyone there is so lovely, you are so kind.

On entering the building it's very clean and you are always greeted by very pleasant reception staff.
The security aspect of the building is very good but not overpowering.
There is a varied and very good weekly menu of food and drink.
But if nothing is suitable other options are always available on request.
As regular named friends, we are greeted by the carers on the relevant floor with details of eating, health and mood which is very helpful.
The activities seem very good but our friend does not use them.
Overall it appears well run and a pretty good and safe place to be.

My mother spent the last 5 1/2 months of her life at Park View. All members of staff did their best to make sure my mother's stay was comfortable and caring. The chef did her best to encourage my mother to eat and bent over backwards to make anything she wanted. Staff were very kind and like to have a laugh with all they cared for.

Since my 97-year-old mother's arrival in Park View Gloucester in December 2016, she has received very good care. The staff are uniformly kind and considerate and understanding of her desire to be as independent (within her limitations) for as long as possible. My mother enjoys the company of other residents and appreciates the good healthy food. The management, staff and auxiliary workers are enthusiastic and committed to providing a safe and caring environment. I have no hesitation in recommending Park View Gloucester.

I think Park View Gloucester could be the best care home in Gloucester after having visited a few. The coffee shop provides a meeting place for residents which helps them to make new friends and socialise. It's a very happy place.

Thank you so much for your kind review. Our coffee shop is central to the home's community and we welcome visitors to join us for coffee mornings.

Mum has settled in well and seems to be enjoying herself. She is aggressive on the odd occasion but soon allows herself to be jollied along and when we leave she soon forgets that she was upset.
All the staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for us, even putting on a meal for us on mothers day.

Many thanks for your review and kind comments. Private dining for families is always available on request should you wish to book again.

Park View has only been opened about 6 months and a few things are not yet quite fully in place but are moving in the right direction. Mum has been in one of the apartments for 4 months now and is generally quite happy and settled considering she has left her home of 70 years. The management team will always find the time to talk with you if you have any questions or just want to talk. Regular residents/family meetings are organised, attended by management, catering and housekeeping, for everyone to air their views or to ask questions. There are activities laid on most days and walks around the local area, not all attended by Mum, but she does enjoy the ones that take her fancy. We have found all the staff very friendly and helpful and extremely happy with the care and attention Mum receives. The building is well laid out with plenty of open space and a choice of communal areas, all being decorated and furnished to a high standard.
Take a look, not as expensive as you may think.

Many Thanks for your review. I will pass on your comments to the team.

This is a lovely care home and the majority of the staff are excellent.
Sometimes there is a lack of activities but only on rare occasions.
The food is excellent and anything we ask for e.g if we want to eat with my mum at short notice it's no problem and if my mum asks for certain food it's never too much trouble.
I would and have highly recommended Parkview to friends and family.

Park View care home bears no relation to the regular reports I read about other care homes over the past four years in the national press. As my wife and I have grown older (we are now in our 80's), we have grown fearful should either of us have to move into a care home. Park View is a breath of fresh air and on arrival, it seemed too good to be true and I am more than satisfied with everything I have experienced here every day as I visit my wife. Despite her reservations about care homes generally, her advancing years make is necessary to have residential care as she has unfortunately succumbed to two incurable brain diseases. The staff are very caring and attentive and despite some of the residents having some very challenging habits, the staff deal with every incident calmly and efficiently. I particularly enjoy being able to have my lunch every day with my wife which is a facility which not every care home can offer.

Thank you so much for your kind words and compliments. I shall pass your comments over to the Team.

I cannot recommend Park View highly enough. My mum recently needed respite nursing care when my father went into the hospital and within a couple of days was very settled and happy. A week later my dad came out of the hospital and needed to convalesce so joined mum at the home. Having always been fiercely independent they both have now decided that they are so happy, settled and well looked after at Park View that they want to stay there permanently. The place itself is very well appointed with beautiful, modern decor, the meals are delicious and varied (I have stayed for lunch with them on several occasions), and the staff are all absolutely fabulous. Nothing is too much trouble, they are on the ball and interested in their residents and make everyone feel very welcome. I have looked at quite a few care homes over the last couple of years and this is, without a doubt, the best. As a family, we are totally at ease as we know that our parents are cared about and cared for to the highest standard.

Description:

Before working in care, my career spanned diverse industry sectors providing management, accounting, administrative and technical services. Now a registered manager with CQC for older people’s services, I first worked in care as commercial manager for Learning Disability Services some 13 years ago. I then found my passion and career ‘home’ when I took a role as care manager in a home for older people. Since then I have managed residential and nursing homes for older people living with and without dementia and love the different challenges that every day brings. I believe that supporting our staff is key to enabling our residents to live fulfilled and happy lives, and my passion is creating a home that becomes a community where families and friends are welcomed – a place people call ‘home’, that feels like ‘home’.
