Overall Experience

My mother spent 15 months at Silver Birch Care Home in Ipswich. As soon as we viewed the home, we knew it was the right place for her. It is beautifully decorated and clean and feels more like a welcoming hotel rather than a care home. Mum's room was bright and nicely furnished, with a lovely view of the gardens. However, it is the staff that really make this place special. From the moment you enter the home, you feel welcome. From the receptionists to the management, every one greets you with a smile. The carers really do care, not only about the residents but also about the families who visit. Nothing was ever too much trouble and Mum was treated with respect. Towards the end of her life, the nursing staff were just outstanding. Her last days were comfortable and quiet, with every need catered for. Her death was peaceful and dignified and our family is so thankful for that. The fact that 3 members of staff attended her funeral speaks volumes.

Very good experience with the care home. They were so loyal and attentive to my sister during her last few months of life.
There priority was to make my sister as comfortable as possible on her end of life journey.

They also treated our family with utmost respect and supported us as well.

My Dad is very well cared for at Silver Birch. It's taken a lot for me to trust other people to care for him, after a prolonged stay in hospital as he is so vulnerable but all of the staff without exception treat him with such dignity and compassion.

Every time we go in, we are treated as part of the SB family and nothing is ever too much trouble.

There is always something going on, whether joining in with the activities, sitting in the bistro area with a coffee, watching TV or a film in the cinema room, or enjoying the garden.

SB doesn't have a high turnover of staff, meaning my Dad knows the carers and we do too.

The food always smells and looks lovely at mealtimes, and there is a good choice on offer. As well as the main meal choices, there is an all day dining menu so if the residents don't fancy a meal at traditional meal times, they won't go without.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Silver Birch to anyone looking for a care home for their loved one.

My mum has been a resident here for over a year and from my initial contact with the home back in February 2025 it has been first class.

We were invited with my mum for a visit with other family members and were given a tour and all relevant information regarding respite and potentially full time care in Silver Birch.

We decided to move my mum here and were very welcomed by everyone. I am so pleased we chose Silver Birch as it gives me great reassurance in her care and wellbeing. I think that what makes the difference is seeing the same members of staff regularly which helps with familiarisation for my mum and consistency in care.

I cannot thank Silver Birch enough for all care and time they give to my mum, and equally the support they give my dad. This has been a challenging time for him as much as my mum. Sophie the Manager and all administrative staff along with carers, nurses and doctors have supported him fully in this journey and me too.

My mother-in-law was a resident at Silver Birch for fourteen months. Silver birch are like a huge family toward both residents and their families, all striving to do the absolute best for the individual in their care. The place is homely, welcoming and all staff are approachable. Plenty of activities to keep residents entertained. Would not hesitate to recommend.

My Uncle has just passed away after being cared for here since Nov 23. I am blown away by how amazing Silver Birch has been. My Uncle was so happy here, he was adored by the staff & it was reciprocated. He got involved in all activities and was happy to get dressed up. I love how much was going on at the home, my parents have been very well supported through a very difficult time & my uncle had some challenges. None of this was a problem to the staff, he was treated with dignity & respect all the time. The attitude of the staff towards the residents and to the visitors is second to none, we had some staff attend his funeral and again showed their love & support to the family. The building & facilities are amazing, I hope Silver Birch maintains its excellent standards for many years to come. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything.

Our brother in law received exemplary care whilst residing at Silver Birch. The staff treated him with respect and ensured that the support he was given was individualised to his specific needs. There were a variety of activities on a daily basis and the environment was welcoming.
As a family member, we were always included in decisions about the care of our brother in law and all questions were answered speedily.

The staff are dedicated and professional.

This Christmas was made extra special by how we were greeted at Silver Birch Care Home.on Christmas Eve as all the staff at the Home had dressed up in festive attire and were so joyful and singing to all the residents and their families. Drinks and food were flowing. It was quite overwhelming because we had such a wonderful experience. Each and every one of the staff on mum's floor were so jolly and joyful it felt as though they were part of our family and in a way I guess they are. The staff cannot do enough to make you feel welcome and the care and support they give to our mum is exceptional. Christmas Day as soon as we entered the Home Sophie, the Manager was such a welcoming sight, so happy to welcome guests who were visiting and on hand for anything you required. People forget that Management and staff have their own families too but I can honestly say I felt they put their residents first. I know in my heart my mum is well cared for and we couldn't ask for anything more.

I spent the New Year at Silver Birch to be with my 97 year old mum. We enjoyed two lovely afternoons, planned by the entertainment staff. There was a karaoke party and a singer. It was lovely to see the residents joining in with the singing and a few who were able to have a dance, including my mum. During the karaoke party, two of the carers sang to the residents. It was very touching to see. I think the staff are very kind and caring and go above and beyond for their residents. I must also mention the reception staff, who are always there to welcome relatives. Well done to you all.

Prior to my Brother moving into Silver Birch I had received recommendations from friends that this was a lovely home and would be an ideal place for my Brother to receive palliative care. From first contact with the Manager Sophie, Nursing Lead Chelsey, Deputy Manager Craig and Customer Services Manager Emma my family and I have witnessed and received nothing but care, compassion and professionalism regarding the care of my Brother. The home is lovely insofar as it feels more like a top class hotel than it does a care home. There is always a friendly welcome from reception and all staff, be they nursing, care or domestic - too many to name were so polite and attentive, , nothing was too much trouble. Everywhere was also so clean and fresh throughout, which makes for such a nice place to visit anytime. I would not hesitate to recommend Silver Birch and Sophie and her team to anyone. Thank you all.

My experience of the care and attention given to my Mother was nothing short of excellent. It was everything I wished it could be, and more.

My particular thanks to three staff members for their medical expertise, sensitivity and guidance throughout Mum's journey through the various stages of MND. My brother and I were especially grateful to all the team for ensuring a serine and peaceful passing for my Mum, filled with dignity.

I'm not sure I can adequately praise all the Carers that looked after Mum. But I have been fortunate to get to know some of them, in particular four members of staff. All of whom were incredible, and I know Mum appreciated their support and care.

We were deeply moved by one staff member on Saturday night. She had been tending to Mum all day, then returned in the evening to sit with her until we could get there. Allowing us a few hours with Mum before she gently passed away.

We are so grateful to the team at Silver Birch. We moved both my parents there a couple of months ago because the care is nurse led. The manager (a trained nurse herself) and also the lady who first showed us around were very helpful, knowledgeable and reassuring. They should also be commended for listening well.

Both my parents have settled well and the care they are receiving is excellent. All the care staff have been great but I particularly want to commend the nurses. Their attention to detail and persistence in making sure that my parents get the medical care that they need from outside agencies has been second to none. I am very grateful to them and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Silver Birch.

My Dad suffered from dementia and sadly passed away on the 26th of March, through the time we were at his side from early in the morning until 3,4 in the morning during this time the staff made sure dad and the family who stayed by his side had teas, coffees and sandwhiches all hours of the day, their care and love for Dad was evident, some members of staff even came in on days off just to check on him and us.
Through out his time at silver birch over 2 1/2 years, they made him welcome and comfortable, if there had been any health concerns or any incidents during the day we were always called and made aware of anything we should know.
I can not thank the staff enough for the care and devotion to Dad they showed throughout his stay ,right up to his passing. The job they do is emotionally draing to see patients decline the amount my Dad did in his last weeks, and my heartfelt thanks go to everyone who looked after him. One carer came in on her day off and noticed he needed a shave, she stayed and did this for him.

I would highly reccomend Silver Birch.

My Mum has been a resident at Silver Birch for over a year. The manager and staff have always been very friendly, helpful, understanding, and caring to Mum and the family. I am very grateful for all their hard work. Not to mention Mum's 90th Birthday recently, the staff went above and beyond to make Mum's day an extra special day. It was so lovely seeing her singing, dancing celebrating with the other residents and staff. Thanks to the chef for making a lovely cake which Mum thoroughly enjoyed very tasty!

My mum has been a resident at Silver Birch Care Home since May and from the moment I met the manager I knew this was the place for my mum and dad. The manager was warm, welcoming, compassionate and understanding and confirmed this was right for both of them. All the members of her team are so friendly from reception through to carers and on every visit, I am greeted with a warm welcome. Sadly my dad only had a short time in there after entering after several hospital stays and passed after a short stay but the care he received with them was faultless. After my dad passed they supported my mum and the care and compassion were fantastic. I can't thank three members of staff in particular enough for their continued support, kindness and understanding they continue to give my mum and the peace of mind I have in knowing my mum has the best care.
