Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My grandfather of 96 spent his final month at Tantallon House. The family were blown away by the care and compassion he received.
The facilities were first class and the staff were of the highest quality.
My grandad was initially reluctant to go into a care home but later said to us that we couldn’t
have picked a better place for him. He was happy and safe in his final chapter of life.
Reply from Gladys Somanje, Care home manager at Tantallon HouseThank you very much, Darren, for the feedback. Thank you for choosing Tantallon House to give care to your late grandfather. It was indeed with great pleasure to welcome the entire family at Tantallon House.

The atmosphere at Tantallon House is unfailingly warm and welcoming for both residents and visitors, and nothing is too much trouble for the staff, who are always caring and considerate and seem to have an excellent rapport with the residents. I am most impressed.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I and my family had to make the decision to move my elderly mother from a care home near London, all the way to Tantallon House North Berwick, Scotland. This seemingly overwhelming, daunting task was made so relaxed and simple by the staff and management of Tantallon House. Once our final decision was
made, my mother was assessed and brought up within one week, just before Christmas. So for the first time in many years, she was able to see all of our very big family. This alone was so special.
The staff are so kind and caring, the whole home is like a home from home. It is so warm, so clean and so comfortable. The food is really good, as well as the wonderful tea and cake.
The communication with staff is really good, and we all feel much more connected in my mother's life. There is a very useful app we can use, that is very useful in part of the general communication about my mother's daily well-being and care.
Reply from Kirsty Summers, Resident Relations Manager at Tantallon HouseThank you so much for the lovely feedback, Annie. We are delighted to hear this and that Mum is so settled and content.
Please let us know anything you need moving forward.

This care home is excellent in care and facilities. The staff are so attentive and our dear Uncle more or less got one-to-one care while in as an interim patient. All the team are very attentive and friendly, this care home was lovely and for us as a family to know our uncle was getting the best of
care and attention he needed. All staff go above and beyond. We were kept informed of any decisions or further care that was necessary. The food was an added bonus as they have a top-notch chef! Everything is freshly cooked on the premises and homebaked daily. We couldn't have asked for better communication and cannot praise this lovely care home and the lovely staff enough.
Reply from Kirsty Summers, Resident Relations Manager at Tantallon HouseThank you very much for the lovely review Eilidh. We are delighted that your uncle had a wonderful experience in Tantallon House. We wish him the best. Regards, Kirsty.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.819)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.819) out of 10 for Tantallon House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 35 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.819 for Tantallon House is calculated as follows: ( (353 Excellents x 5) + (51 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 415 Ratings = 4.819
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Tantallon House is based on 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 34 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
