All very clean and safe. Helpful staff. Have to wait a long time sometimes when ringing for assistance.
Reply from Judith Wroe, Manager at The Cambridgeshire Care HomeThank you very much for your kind review about the staff and our safe and clean environment.
I would like to discuss with you the wait time you are sometimes encountering when ringing for assistance to see if we can identify why this may have happened.
Once again, thank you for the kind words regarding the staff, and I will be sure to pass that on to the team.

My mother moved into the Shelford Cambridgeshire Care Home in June 2020. The help and support the staff gave whilst making this move was total and caring for Mum and the rest of the family. Since moving in have been able to see Mum safely. She loves her room, enjoys the food and thinks all the staff
are wonderful. They encourage her to join in all the activities and have even started evening activities to meet Mum's needs. Thank you.
Reply from Judith Wroe, Manager at The Cambridgeshire Care HomeThank you for these kind words which I will share with all the team.
We appreciate how challenging it is for everyone during this pandemic, and are happy we can listen to our residents to adapt our activity to suit what our residents would like to see.
Once again, thank you.

My mother was resident at this care home for just over 3 years. From the moment she arrived, it was clear that the standard of care - not simply the facilities on offer - was much higher than at her previous care home. Throughout the ups and downs of my mother's needs over this period, the staff were
unfailingly polite, helpful and went out of the way to make my mother as comfortable and well-cared for as possible. During the last 12 months when the world has been besieged by Covid, the home under the manager's leadership has, if anything, simply got better and better. Despite being unable to visit for weeks, the programme of activities in the home was stepped up and every effort made to introduce technology that allowed all residents still to connect with loved ones. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home and would certainly choose it again. It is not for the financially faint-hearted, but you do get great nursing care and really caring staff.

What I like most about The Cambridgeshire is that the staff treat the residents with compassion and respect and there is a good ratio of staff to residents. Each resident is treated as an individual.

The Cambridgeshire Care Home has some loving staff that look after my mum and make her feel like part of their family. The restricted visiting opportunities during this Covid crisis has been hard on my mum, who was used to almost daily visits. The staff make up for this the best they can, spending time
to talk to her and helping her with things she finds difficult. The fabric of the home is well maintained, and when I do see my mum, she is relaxed, and says, she is well looked after. It's good to see that events for the residents are still being arranged within the home during the Covid crisis.

I was so happy to have found The Cambridgeshire Care Home, after visiting many others in our area, which did not meet the standards I had in mind, it was a relief to view this beautiful home. dad moved in just a few weeks later.
The home itself is super luxurious with a 5* hotel feel. The whole place
is immaculate and no unpleasant smells which I found in all the other homes I visited! Dad was so relieved to have the care and security he needed in his last few months.
I would highly recommend this care home, slightly more expensive but worth every penny.
Thank you.

Since my mother entered the home almost 4-years ago, I've been very happy in the manner she has been looked after and the care she has received. I've always found the staff to be welcoming and friendly, and the home to be very clean and tidy. The meals and entertainment laid on are of the highest quality.

Dad came to live at The Cambridgeshire Care Home for the last ten months of his life. The facilities and food were excellent. Staff were kind, skilled and caring. The coronavirus pandemic has been a huge challenge for care homes and The Cambridgeshire Care Home seemed to me to have prepared well and
risen to the challenge although this did affect care and the residents will have found isolation very hard. At times it was hard to get through to staff looking after dad and my only suggestion is that more should be done to improve communication especially to front line staff.

We looked at many care homes in and around Cambridge but this one ticked all the boxes for us. We would certainly recommend a very homely clean and well-run home. Mum was a resident for two years (May 2018 - May 2020) she was extremely happy there. We found all the staff very professional and caring.
She didn’t go out of her room much as she had lost her confidence since Dad died, they had been together 68yrs, but she did enjoy going to the dining room at mealtimes. The food was of a high standard and presented nicely. Some days she would join in the activities, she especially enjoyed the special occasions eg The Annual Garden party when the rest of the family were able to enjoy the entertainment. There was always refreshments in the Bistro with pastries and fruit on arrival. During these uncertain times, the home certainly kept us informed of the changing circumstances and we were able to chat with mum on Face time.

I stayed at The Cambridgeshire Care Home from 27th January to help recover for hysterectomy. Being 85 years old my family decided I need 2 weeks respite care. I found the staff (all kinds) management and all that was needed was there for me and would happily return if I needed to. Most helpful, kind
and I left feeling well-rested and well looked after. All my visitors were most impressed.

Everything here has been excellent. Everything is beautifully clean. Staff are kind and treated me with kindness. Nursing staff were diligent and thorough. The prompt action of the emergency chord at night was within five minutes. Very small consideration - promptness of call during the day took longer.
Overall, excellent convalescent stay.

I was extremely happy with the care my Mum received in the last months of her life from February 2019. I always found the attitude of all the staff very pleasant and I was pleased they all knew her by name from the handyman to the manager. She was not easiest of residents in the last few months but
they always tried to include her in activities although she would not go.
There was never a problem with her personal hygiene and the onsite hairdresser and beautician was a great bonus. The meal selection was always good and if nothing suited they would always offer an alternative.
In the last month of her life, she was treated with dignity and kindness as was any member of the family visiting. Family always felt welcome and any questions raised were always answered. I always felt the staff tried very hard to make it a relaxed and caring environment whilst understanding that many of the residents would prefer to have been in their own homes although that was no longer possible.

The strength of this nursing home is in the staff. They have some very dedicated and caring staff who go beyond expectation and care. There is care in presentation and cleanliness of the building and gardens. I particularly wish to commend night staff - week January 20th onwards. There is a real sense
of unity as a group and they are very efficient in what they do.

I came to The Cambridgeshire Care Home for respite care after an operation to remove my gall bladder. I am 81 years old and live independently. I thought the building, garden and room outstanding. The staff were excellent and professional. The food was really good and well thought out.
However, I
did not get any sleep for the first few nights due to a male resident ranting and raving, shouting and yelling all night. This is not respite care and is unacceptable.
I also observed that some residents were left in an anxious state due to staff not responding to the bell call. Perhaps due to a shortage of staff but this is a basic requirement for all.
Reply from Judith Wroe, Manager at The Cambridgeshire Care HomeThank you for your comments and review. We are sorry you experienced disturbed nights before moving to another room on the Trinity Suite. We do monitor our rotas and call bells, and please be assured that we will continue to do this to ensure response times are kept to a minimum. Once again, thank you for the valuable feedback and I will pass on your positive comments to the Staff Team.

This recently new built care home was what attracted our family to choose this venue for a two-week respite for our 92 year old mother. But, unfortunately, the overall service and attention to detail did not live up to our expectations, and was poor value for money at £1,750 per week. The contract,
terms and conditions etc arrived for our approval the day prior to admission. We were incorrectly advised regarding laundry tags, resulting in confusion and lost garments. Initially no phone in her room, then we were advised twice the wrong number. On visiting, her room had not been cleaned or towels changed. Television in room was not user-friendly for a person with dementia. The care home charges £250 per day, my mothers stay was from Sunday lunchtime to Saturday week lunchtime, i.e., 13 nights, but was charged 14 days!

From Nurses to Carers, hospitality, cleaners, admin, reception and activity coordinators the staff are very friendly and supportive.

I found only one other home in Cambs that would manage chemical sensitivities. When I asked about their cleaning products Cambridgeshire Care Home told me they had

vulnerable residents so, just as in hospitals, used no strong chemicals. Most care homes spray air fresheners to hide smells with no thought to the effect on those living there but not Cambridgeshire Care Home.

The food was good and the hospitality went out of their way to help the day start well.

My en-suite bathroom and the large electric bath and shower communal bathrooms were luxurious. The premises generally were very clean and beautiful. I would recommend bringing cotton bed linen as those supplied were very uncomfortable.

I had a stunning view of the garden so I was able to enjoy looking at the wildlife, birds and squirrels.

Mine was a temporary visit but this is the one I would choose if I had to.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.823)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.823) out of 10 for The Cambridgeshire Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 39 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.823 for The Cambridgeshire Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (379 Excellents x 5) + (75 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 457 Ratings = 4.823
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Cambridgeshire Care Home is based on 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4, which has been reached with 39 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
