Mum has been at 'The Lakes' for almost 18 months now and has been treated with nothing but kindness and respect, as have I. The Care Team keep me well informed of any health issues my Mum may be experiencing. The home is comfortable, clean and well furnished and every care is taken to provide activities that appeal to all residents. Great care is taken to keep everyone healthy, happy and well. In the run up to Christmas a cheese and wine evening was laid on for residents and their relatives, at which the kitchen team excelled themselves by providing cheese and wine pairings with lots of beautifully presented nibbles for us all to enjoy. Musical entertainment was provided by the talented and versatile staff team. There was also a very well organised coach trip out for all residents and relatives to a local garden centre for lunch and then a tour round the lovely nearby villages, culminating in a drive through Cirencester to enjoy the Christmas lights which we all enjoyed.

I would like to commend 'The Lakes' for a fabulous Christmas Day experience. Wonderful as soon as my brother and I entered with Christmas reception drinks and tasty bites. The place was brightly decorated with Christmas trees and there was a happy buzz everywhere. The Christmas lunch of 3 courses and drink was delicious. A lovely fun party day.

I volunteer part time doing teas, coffee and chat with small groups of residents. I have been made very welcome by staff and I feel my efforts are valued. It is a very happy environment. They appreciate how hard it is for people to lose their independence.

On a practical level, everything is spotless, they take this very seriously. The garden is beautifully kept and the residents really enjoy it. They work very hard to have interesting things for the residents to do. Visiting is a pleasure not a chore.

My stepmother, Indy MBE has been looked after at The Lakes Care Centre for six years until her death. This last was handled very well. She died unexpectedly and peacefully at night at the home with the step granddaughter at her side. Throughout these years Indy, a very private woman, was treated with respect, with humour and care. Although suffering with severe memory loss she was able to do crosswords and play scrabble with the staff and other residents. I have no hesitation in recommending The Lakes Care Centre.

Reply from Nikkie Millar, General Manager at The Lakes Care Centre

Thank you for sharing such thoughtful words about Indy's time with us. It was a privilege to care for her over the past six years, and we are so sorry for your loss. We're pleased to know that her final moments were peaceful and with family by her side. Indy will be remembered here with great respect, and your recommendation means a great deal to all of us at The Lakes Care Centre.

When I went to see my Mum today, she was having a bad day due to her dementia. She swore at me (unusual); didn't really know me, but had been asking the staff all morning for me. It was emotional for both her and me. I decided to leave, but two female care leads were concerned about me as well as my mother. They offered to go and see her. They told her I was waiting downstairs, and my mother instantly wanted to go out with me. They got her ready, put her in her wheelchair, and we were able to get in the car and go out together. The 360 care by the two staff was wonderful. Thank you.

I couldn't be more grateful for the exceptional care my mother receives at this wonderful residential care home. From the moment she moved in, the warmth, professionalism, and genuine kindness of the entire team made all the difference. The environment is always clean, welcoming, full of life and homely. The staff go above and beyond every day, treating residents with the utmost respect, dignity, and compassion. It's comforting to know she's surrounded by people who truly care. The patience and warmth of all the staff means the world to my mother and it is comforting they always seem to find ways to brighten her day with thoughtful touches and conversation. There is a broad range of engaging activities, the meals are nutritious and tailored to individual needs, and the personal support is top-notch. Knowing she's in such capable hands gives me real peace of mind. I can't thank the team enough for creating such a safe, supportive, and happy environment for my mum. I highly recommend The Lakes to anyone looking for exceptional elderly care with a personal touch.

I have nothing but praise to give to the staff and management of this care home - especially regarding the nature and conditions of its patrons. It must be a really difficult task. The home itself is beautifully decorated and kept spotless, the rooms are very nice. Relations between staff and visitors are extremely cordial- it is a real pleasure to visit. But at £7017 per month - it is very expensive.

My father has lived here for 2 years and we are very happy with the light, airy and pleasant environment of the households. It has good outside space both in the form of balconies, terraces and gardens, although more could be made of these spaces. We have been very happy with my father's care, the carers and the support staff in the home. Whilst the main care teams have remained stable, there have been changes in management since he has been
a resident but hopefully it will now be a period of stability.

The facilities in the home are good with regular organised activities, areas of quiet where you can sit, or lounges where you can be with others. Also, there are facilities where you can meet as larger family groups to celebrate birthdays etc. Overall, we are happy with the home and my father is settled, happy and well cared for.

Fiona BoxallJob Title:Deputy Home ManagerJoined: 2024

Fiona has been Deputy Manager at The Lakes Care Centre since February 2024. Prior to this, Fiona spent time nearly 5 years working as a Bursar at another OSJCT care home, Millbrook Lodge, in Brockworth.

“No two days are ever the same at The Lakes. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to interact with our wonderful residents and their families” Fiona said.

When asked what her favourite memory was from her time at The Lakes, Fiona reflected on one of these many opportunities she had to interact with a resident and their loved one.

“The Lakes were taking part in a baking competition, and I was lucky enough to transport one of our keen baking residents and his family to the grand finale in Bath. This resident was from a farming background, and it was an absolute pleasure to see the look on his face as we drove around the countryside and told tales of his farming days.”

In her spare time away from The Lakes, Fiona enjoys travelling, trips to the movies and theatre, as well as spending as much time with her loving family as possible.
