The Lakes is a lovely comfortable environment with gardens for all the residents to enjoy. The atmosphere is homely and welcoming during the seven months mum has been a resident. We are confident that she is safe and very well cared for by the kind, cheerful and hardworking staff.

The aim of my stay at The Lakes was to regain my confidence and independence after a traumatic stay in hospital. I was treated with respect as to my abilities. Being able to make my own tea or coffee was much appreciated as was having breakfast in bed, a luxury when you live alone. At the end of my
stay, I had been able to get the rest I needed and was able to return home.

The staff at the Lakes care home are all so friendly, we are always greeted with a smile when we visit Dad. The care provided is excellent, it has been good for Dad to be looked after in a nice community environment. The food and drinks are very good, always a cup of tea when he needs one, lots of treats
which he really likes. The facility is a lovely place, with lots of space for him to walk around. Dad is very happy here after being here 6 months, he is now settled and enjoying his time in care. Thanks to all the staff.

Covid lockdown has been tough for residents, staff, and families. The home has been very strict about access, this has resulted in very low levels of infection. It has also unfortunately restricted interaction for residents with an inevitable concomitant decline in well-being.
The Trust have very recently
put in place a root and branch review of the Lakes operation, driven in part by the concerns of residents' families. As a result, a new manager has been appointed and it is anticipated that this will vastly improve the morale of staff and thus the happiness of residents. It needs saying the staff are caring, diligent, and kind. The home is modern and clean, the food is good. As things open up post covid under new leadership I have great hopes for the future of The Lakes. Our mum is remarkably happy given such trying times.

Poorly led, poorly managed, and a shocking, extensive, catalogue of acknowledged failures in The Lakes' duty of care. We had no choice but to remove our Mum after just three weeks of what we expected would be a permanent residency. We raised numerous, valid concerns during this period as we tried desperately
to avoid this action, but the many promised improvements and remedial actions by The Lakes management were never forthcoming. An official complaint has been raised with Head Office and a full investigation at the highest level has been carried out, bearing out our concerns. We sincerely hope the remedial actions promised by Head Office will have a beneficial and long-lasting effect and that other families will be spared the upset, stress, and anxiety we have been caused. Moving a loved one into a care home is never an easy decision, nor one taken lightly. Having to move your loved one out again is even harder and is still having repercussions today.

We were in a very difficult position of suddenly having to move my mother from an unsuitable care home. The staff at The Lakes did everything possible to turn a very distressing situation into a positive experience. Our mother has been at The Lakes for 2-months, and I am so relieved. Her needs are fully
understood and catered for. Her physical and mental health needs are well supported, and staff are always happy to answer any questions we have. She is encouraged to have as full a life as possible. The staff are lovely, not only to Mum but to myself and my sister too! Covid has made the separation hard, but regular phone calls and emails from staff, combined with photos, Sykpe calls and managed visits, mean we have been reassured about Mum's care and her life within the home. Covid has also meant I have had very few visits inside, but I look forward to becoming part of The Lakes and what appears to be a lovely community.

We have been very impressed with The Lakes right from our very first contact. The level of care and service provided has been first class. Most impressive is the amount of time all staff spend with individual residents getting to know them really well, teasing out historic memories, which trigger other
snippets for engaging chats with the resident, particularly valuable with onset of dementia. This extends to all staff, eg the head chef who seems very fond of Dad, (not just because he loves his desserts) and the activities team. The Lakes sends weekly updates from the management, along with regular updates from the lead carer for Dad. The entire Lakes team has worked tirelessly and selflessly through the pandemic and been incredibly successful at keeping the residents Covid free. Regular Skype calls with Dad has minimised the pandemic impact. Most importantly, our confidence in the whole care home and staff means we are relaxed and not worrying about Dad, a massive relief.

Mum settled in well after moving to The Lakes and is generally very content and relaxed. We have found the staff to be very kind and friendly whilst also being professional and Mum often comments on how lovely they all are. The rooms and shared lounges are bright and homely, and there is a good choice
of nutritious home-cooked food. Despite only moving in two months before the lockdown, Mum was able to experience some of the many activities with school visits, music clubs and coffee mornings. Since the lockdown, a daily timetable of activities has been organised, which she enjoys. Whilst visits have been limited due to the pandemic, staff have worked hard to facilitate Skype calls with families, which has helped us all keep in touch.

We would definitely recommend The Lakes, especially for dementia care. My Mum moved in just before lockdown, so it hasn't been an easy time for her or us or the staff. However, she has been very well looked after by the carers who are very friendly and caring. They have helped Mum to Skype us which
has been a real godsend to help us keep in touch. The food is good with plenty of choices and caters to my Mum's diet. Although we are sent the weekly email and programme we find communications about Mum's health and what activities she has taken part in rather lacking. Mum has enjoyed the garden which is lovely. Her bedroom is bright and clean. Having four households with 16 in each makes it more like a family.

Having researched care homes in our area we felt that The Lakes Care Centre was the most suitable for our mother. We found that the building was light, modern and well-designed with ample parking for visitors. The design of the building allows residents to easily socialise with other residents or privately
with family.
From our initial meeting and assessment, we felt that the admissions staff were professional but equally friendly and warm. Settling in was made easy by all the staff who showed ample concern for our feelings as well as our mother's.
The Medical support team had an excellent line of communication with the GP and NHS staff.
We felt that the food and the recreational activities on offer were all carefully thought out to add to the homely atmosphere.

Fiona

Fiona Boxall

Job Title: Deputy Home Manager Joined: 2024

Fiona has been Deputy Manager at The Lakes Care Centre since February 2024. Prior to this, Fiona spent time nearly 5 years working as a Bursar at another OSJCT care home, Millbrook Lodge, in Brockworth.


“No two days are ever the same at The Lakes. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to interact with our wonderful residents and their families” Fiona said.


When asked what her favourite memory was from her time at The Lakes, Fiona reflected on one of these many opportunities she had to interact with a resident and their loved one.


“The Lakes were taking part in a baking competition, and I was lucky enough to transport one of our keen baking residents and his family to the grand finale in Bath. This resident was from a farming background, and it was an absolute pleasure to see the look on his face as we drove around the countryside and told tales of his farming days.”


In her spare time away from The Lakes, Fiona enjoys travelling, trips to the movies and theatre, as well as spending as much time with her loving family as possible.

Nikkie

Nikkie Millar

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2018

Nikkie joined the Trust in 2018 at Jubilee Lodge as Head of Dementia Care before progressing to Head of Care and then Home Manager at Orchard House. After a short time away, she returned to the Trust in April 2024 as Home Manager at The Lakes.


She holds a range of qualifications, including NVQ Level 5, Level 3 Dementia Care and Level 3 Teaching Education, and is an experienced Moving and Handling Instructor of over 20 years. Nikkie is passionate about empowering colleagues, supporting professional growth, and ensuring the highest standards of care for residents.


Outside of work, Nikkie enjoys travelling to hot and sunny destinations, trying extreme sports and spending time with her family.

Lloyd

Lloyd King

Job Title: Bursar Joined: 2021

Lloyd joined the Trust in 2021. Originally from Australia, he moved to England in 2017 and managed pubs until the COVID pandemic, when he began working in care. He now brings together his background in hospitality and his knowledge of the care sector to his role as Bursar, where he enjoys supporting colleagues and welcoming the many people who visit The Lakes.


Outside of work, Lloyd enjoys spending time with his family and walking his 16-year-old Pug, Sasha.

Paul

Paul Lewis

Job Title: Activity Coordinator Joined: 2021

Paul joined the Trust in August 2021 as Activity Coordinator. Before this, he worked in telecommunications for most of his career until retiring. A talented musician, Paul is a member of a ukulele group that has performed in various care homes. Inspired by the opportunity to bring music and creativity into people’s lives, he came out of retirement to take on his role at OSJCT.


Paul is passionate about introducing music, the arts, animals, and outdoor activities into daily life at home. He believes these experiences bring great joy to residents and provide many well-being benefits.


Outside of work, Paul remains an active member of his ukulele band and continues to pursue his passion for music.

Benson (Ben)

Benson (Ben) Ngure

Job Title: Carer Joined: 2022

Benson joined the Trust in August 2022 as a Carer. Originally from Nigeria, he previously worked as a hairdresser, barber, and massage therapist, skills which reflect his love of interacting with people.


Since joining OSJCT, Ben has embraced his role in care and is keen to progress further, with plans to begin his NVQ Health and Social Care Level 3 qualification.


Outside of work, Ben is a passionate football fan and a dedicated supporter of Arsenal FC.

Marie Coxhead

Marie joined the Trust in 2022 as a Cook and was promoted to Chef in July 2024. She holds qualifications equivalent to NVQs in Catering and Supervising.


Marie is passionate about her role and enjoys planning and creating a varied range of seasonal dishes and classic favourites for residents, working closely with the team at The Lakes. She also particularly enjoys baking cakes.


Outside of work, Marie loves spending time with her dogs and grandchildren.

Freya

Freya Hodgson

Job Title: Admin Assistant Joined: 2025

Freya joined the Trust in 2025 as an Admin Assistant. After graduating with a degree in English, she worked in a number of administration roles before deciding to join OSJCT.


Freya was attracted to the Trust’s welcoming atmosphere and the chance to work in a role with real purpose, giving back and making a difference. She enjoys being part of a team that supports others and creates a positive working environment, and is looking forward to developing her organisational, communication, and teamwork skills.


Outside of work, Freya loves horse riding, reading, and spending time with her friends.

Casey

Casey Williams

Job Title: Care Leader Joined: 2019

Casey joined the Trust in January 2019 as a Carer and was promoted to Care Lead in 2022. She has completed her NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and will soon begin her Level 4 qualification, reflecting her commitment to progressing her career in the sector.


Casey enjoys supporting residents and their families, particularly when working with more complex care needs. She values collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams and is keen to learn from every situation to continually improve her practice.


Outside of work, Casey enjoys spending time with her family and their Dachshund, Snoop.

Martin

Martin Weaver

Job Title: Maintenance Lead Joined: 2021

Martin joined the Trust in 2021 as Maintenance Lead at The Lakes. He brings with him a varied background in electromagnetic engineering, kitchen fitting, and long-distance lorry driving.


Martin takes pride in repairing and restoring equipment to full working order and enjoys the challenge that each new task presents.


Outside of work, Martin enjoys taking his dog for long walks, going camping, and riding his Kawasaki 650.
