Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My Mum has been at the Village since August 2021. Following a stay in hospital, Mum’s last care home, where she had been resident for 14 months, refused to have her back because of issues with aggressive behaviour. The staff at the Village have given Mum a new lease of life with dementia. They are all
so caring, so warm-hearted, attentive to her needs and supportive when she needs it. Nothing is too much trouble. She is so happy and loves them all. She has not been this happy and settled for 3 years. From the minute you walk through the door for a visit, you and your relative are important to them. The foyer, where visits have taken place during Covid, is light, airy and comfortable. There is always coffee or tea and biscuits available. Proof of a recent LFT test is always asked for and I am happy to contribute to keeping everyone safe. Any concerns I have had have been dealt with efficiently, effectively and with care and kindness. This is a safe, happy place for those in need.

My mom has been at the Village since April and the staff are always welcoming and offer drinks and are ready to answer any questions I may have about Mom. They always check that a Covid test has been done - obviously, visitors are not allowed into the residents' living area at the moment, helping to
stop any spread of Covid. The administration staff and all the carers are always attentive to Mom and me, which makes me know that Mom is safe and well looked after there.

Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
My 88-year-old father was at The Village for approximately twelve weeks, from September 2021.
Despite repeatedly asking to see Dad's room and daily living arrangements we weren't allowed 'onto the floor' because of the stringent Covid measures in place.
Visits could only take place in a noisy reception
area, strictly one visit per week by appointment, for thirty minutes maximum, and strictly subject to proof of a Covid test. When we visited we were rarely asked to provide evidence of the Covid test, and we were never asked to wear a mask.
We brought three bags of dad's clothes to The Village but he was rarely dressed in any of his own clothes, which was an undignified experience for him. On discharge only a few of his clothes could be found, we had to leave without them.
Dad needs two hearing aids but he was never wearing them when we visited, despite us querying this numerous times.
All of these comments have been reported to the management team during Dad's stay.
Reply from Martin Pawar, Chief Executive at The Village Nursing HomeThank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, Covid and these unpredictable times have caused many changes in the way our resident's safety is maintained. We are a complex behaviour home and due to Covid, relatives going onto the units could put residents at risk from outside Covid risk factors. Therefore designated areas for visiting were assigned to include the Reception Area, Hairdressers and Cinema Room. Designated visiting times were present to prevent noise pollution so I am sorry you found visiting to be noisy. We would have accommodated the visit in one of the other areas if you felt that way and we were made aware. We assign a staff member to either do an LFT on family/visitor or check results. We are a care facility and do have signage on the front doors and within the home to ensure visitors wear their masks as per government guidelines for health facilities and we rely on our relatives to also comply with local guidelines. Please call the management team.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.163)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.163) out of 10 for The Village Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.188 for The Village Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (184 Excellents x 5) + (41 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (40 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 277 Ratings = 4.188
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Village Nursing Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 90 registered maximum number of service users is 18, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
