Colchester care home opens its doors for community open day

A Colchester care home is inviting local people to drop in for tea, cake and a warm welcome as part of National Care Home Open Week.

The Oaks Care Home, on Oaks Drive, part of Aurem Care, will be hosting a special Open Day from 11am to 4pm on Thursday, June 18, giving visitors the chance to take a look around the home, meet residents and staff, and find out more about the care and support it provides.

The event is open to everyone, from local residents and families to community groups and those considering care options for themselves or a loved one. Visitors will be able to enjoy refreshments throughout the day, including tea, coffee, doughnuts and cupcakes, while experiencing first-hand the friendly atmosphere that makes The Oaks feel like home.

The Oaks recently achieved a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission and is keen to use Care Home Open Week as an opportunity to strengthen links with the local community and showcase the positive impact care homes have on the lives of older people.

Renata Sulugiuc, home manager at The Oaks Care Home, said: “We are excited to be opening our doors and welcoming local people into our home during Care Home Open Week.

“We know that many people have never visited a care home and may not know what to expect. This is a great opportunity to come in, meet our residents and team, have a chat over a cup of tea and see the caring and supportive environment we have created here at The Oaks.

“We want people to feel comfortable asking questions, finding out more about the services we provide and simply enjoying some time with us. Whether you are looking at care options, have a family member living in a care home, or just fancy joining us for a coffee and a cake, you will be made very welcome.”

National Care Home Open Week is an annual initiative designed to connect care homes with their local communities, celebrate the work of the social care sector and challenge outdated perceptions of care home life.
