My mum was at the Lodge for 25 months before passing. During that time, she received wonderful care from an amazing group of people. The whole staff - from the manager, to the nurses, carers, entertainment, kitchen staff & cleaners - are dedicated to the well-being of all their residents.
Alongside
the exceptional care, they provide a 5 star food service, whilst also maintaining/ cleaning all the facilities to the very highest of standards.
Reply from Deborah Skinner, General Manager at The LodgeOh wow thank you. It has been the greatest pleasure to have known your mum and you for the last 2 years, and we will miss both of you enormously. The staff will feel huge pride when they see your comments and I thank you very much indeed for them. Look after yourselves and come in whenever you would like to, in the meantime we will send you invites to all of our functions.

Before my mother moved in, I had taken over some of her belongings. I noted the small touches like a plate of fruit, chocolates and wine and toiletries in the room. Small gestures do count. My mother was well cared for and looked after in the short time they resided at the home. The home was clean
and kept tidy. The General Manager, Deborah, was pleasant and presentable and easy to talk to. I wish my mother had been a resident at the home earlier in their dementia journey.
Reply from Deborah Skinner, General Manager at The LodgeThank you for this review and for the compliments. I am only sorry that you were not able to have joined us earlier too, and I'm proud and delighted that you feel your mother was well looked after.
Thank you again

Both my parents entered the Lodge in late 2021, my father dying soon after. However, in that short period his care was first class. My mother was resident there with worsening dementia until death. All the staff and management without exception were compassionate and caring, and seemed to treat residents
as family. The Home is spotlessly clean and maintained, and a lively environment with many activities for those able to participate.
I highly recommend the Lodge in all respects.
Reply from Deborah Skinner, General Manager at The LodgeHello and what a review - thank you so much. I am proud of every staff member who take the greatest of care with each and every resident they care for, seeing it as a privilege. I will pass on your words and score to the staff to be put on display.
Thank you again

It was easy for us to choose the Lodge as a care home for our mother as we had received excellent recommendations from people that we trusted.
They were not wrong. From the moment that my mother arrived up until her death each and every member of the staff that we encountered were unfailingly friendly
and helpful.
It was a pleasure to visit my mother whilst she was in the Lodge and to have lunch with her on a number of occasions. The food was delicious.
Reply from Deborah Skinner, General Manager at The LodgeThank you so much for your wonderful comments. We are very proud of the care we provide and always strive to do the very best we can. I am so pleased we lived up to your expectations, and I will let the catering team know you found the food delicious!!

The Lodge is an exceptional care home. My father lived there for the past five years until his death this autumn. He had very complex care needs following a stroke, and for the last 18 months of his life was unable to move or speak more than a word or two. For the staff at the Lodge this has meant years
of feeding him by hand, moving him by hoist, dressing him etc. They carried out these tasks with kindness, good humour and respect. Here are some of the key good points regarding the Lodge:
- kind and patient staff,
- warm, very pleasant atmosphere,
- excellent freshly prepared food,
- responsive and organised management,
- experienced, professional and compassionate nursing team.
During the final week of my father's life, the staff at the Lodge were outstandingly kind. They spoke to us with compassion and brought us coffee, cake and meals by Dad's bedside so we could stay by him during his final hours. Thanks to the Lodge, my Dad had a peaceful and gentle passing. Thank you.
Reply from Deborah Skinner, General Manager at The LodgeThank you so much for this extraordinary and wonderful review. It has been such a pleasure to look after your father, and to know all the family as well. It makes me very proud to know that we did this so well for you. Thank you again.

The team at The Lodge were professional, empathetic and genuinely caring, not only to my mum but to my brother and me. Every person I met in the Lodge has a smile, kind word and helpful attitude. My mum was very pleased with her carers and that gave me peace of mind as I did not live near to her. Sadly
Mum's stay was brief but we could not have asked for more from start to finish. Thank you team.
Reply from Deborah Skinner, General Manager at The LodgeThank you for this review and I'm very grateful to have met you all for, as you say just a short time. I will forward on your comments to the whole team, who will be thrilled, proud and delighted to hear your views. Thank you so much again.

My mum finally decided she needed full time care and decided to move to The Lodge. The process of identifying her needs and settling her in was done with dignity and great care. Sadly, my mum's illness progressed quickly, but the nursing care was outstanding, and it gave me great comfort to know that
she was being looked after so well when I went home. Thank you.
Reply from Deborah Skinner, General Manager at The LodgeThank you and yes I agree, it was a short stay however, it was in the control of your mum who made all the decisions she chose, in the way she wanted. I will miss the family contact too. thank you for your kind words, they are much appreciated.

I cannot praise the care I had at The Lodge highly enough. The care was needed for several weeks of respite after an adverse reaction to hospital treatment, after which I could not care for myself. It was much appreciated that efforts were made to book me in on short notice. The staff were lovely without
exception and always had a smile and a few words of encouragement.

My mother has been a resident for 3 and a half years. From the start mum was looked after and cared for by excellent staff. Mum was liked by many of the staff and had a good rapport with them. She was able to be taken out in her wheelchair to many places, including the garden centre, museum, and
Exmouth where she could enjoy fish and chips!! Hairdresser, chiropody, optician and visiting dentist are all available to all residents if needed. The Lodge entertainment is very varied from crafts, Summer Fayre, visits from local organisations and recently the commencement of their own choir. All this mum enjoyed although she may not have participated in everything!! Staff always made us welcome and encouraged relatives and friends to participate. Mum passed away recently and we were well looked after during this sad time with comforting coffee and hugs. The background staff (admin, catering etc) are worthy of note as well - to the whole team, we thank you for everything

The Lodge has been exceptional. The manager has been very supportive from the start and has an open door to residents, their families and staff. The staff are always friendly, caring and go above and beyond to provide outstanding care. The home is always clean and staff are smartly dressed. The food
provided is freshly cooked on site and a good menu selection. There are always plenty of activities available and regular visits from entertainers. Would recommend without hesitation.

The Lodge provides excellent care for Mum. The entire team - from care staff and nurses to cleaners, activity coordinators, catering and management - are professional, friendly and attentive. The facility is beautiful, the food is good, and there's a good variety of activities, but the staff's genuine
care and attention to residents' needs is what makes this place stand out. I'd highly recommend The Lodge.

I stayed at The Lodge for about a week following surgery (as I live alone and in a house on multiple levels). The Lodge provided exactly what I needed, especially the first few days when I was so uncomfortable. Everyone was really kind and I appreciated the help I received from the carers and nurses,
as well as the hospitality staff and other teams.
In addition, I was really reassured to have professional nurses monitoring the medication, especially the heavy-duty painkillers, and to have the personal care support. The Lodge also arranged a session with a physiotherapist which was a turning point as it gave me the confidence to move about more and understand how to manage the discomfort. I would not have had any of this at home.
I would not hesitate to recommend The Lodge to anyone with similar needs.

What can I say about The Lodge? I am the daughter of a resident who was admitted 5 years ago. My mother had suffered a stroke and until then had been completely independent. Although mobile, it affected her memory and she found it difficult to adjust but over time with care, encouragement, respect and
support, she got there and she had a beautiful room overlooking the garden which she loved. She was free to potter; to join in any activities she wished to which were very professional, and included outside speakers and interesting subjects, which she enjoyed. Also, lovely day trips out. Throughout her stay, she was treated with the utmost respect and dignity. Her carers knew and managed her expectations well to the very end and there is quality in everything the Lodge team do for their residents; beautiful buildings and gardens, immaculately clean, fabulous care and wonderful food but most of all in my case, the general manager and her team's ability to involve me too. A huge thank you!
Reply from Deborah Skinner, General Manager at The LodgeI hardly know what to say in return apart from thank you so very much for this review. My mother received excellent care in the time she was here. I was particularly impressed with the care manager who was very willing to work with us to ensure Mum's changing needs were met. They are a very caring team, both day and night staff. The food is excellent. Mum's time there was happy and we
are grateful to all the staff. Special thanks from me to the receptionists that would run upstairs with the phone without complaint, just friendly greeting!

My mum moved to The Lodge during the pandemic to be close to her family in Exeter and to receive end-of-life care. She ended up enjoying nearly three more years thanks to the exceptional care and support she received. We already knew The Lodge had a good reputation but it exceeded this and we are so
grateful to you all. Those extra years were entirely due to how safe and content she felt. The Lodge team helped support us right through to the end and beyond. All the team have been exceptionally kind, supportive and sensitive.
