My mother has been a resident for over three years and we are very pleased with the care she is receiving. The staff look after her well and encourage her to take part in activities within the Home. She likes to walk with the aid of a zimmer frame and is encouraged to do so .
She particularly enjoys
concerts by visiting musicians and this is a regular feature of the activities provided. The team providing social events work hard to provide entertainment and activities throughout the year, producing a stimulating environment.
The meals are good and many alternatives are offered .
The Home looks attractive and comfortable. The different seasons are marked by colourful and attractive decorations. The Dining room is often decorated to mark particular events.
The bedrooms are a bit small but have en-suite facilities and are kept at a comfortable temperature. We're impressed with the efforts to keep the rooms cool in heatwaves.
Regular visits by chiropodist and dentist would be good.
Reply from Rares Pop, General Manager at The Cotswold HomeThank you for your feedback. We're delighted your mother is happy, enjoys the activities, and feels well cared for. We appreciate your comments regarding chiropody and dental visits and will consider how to enhance these services. Your kind words will be shared with the team.

My Mother has been in the care home for about three months.
I think that she is receiving excellent care from the staff.
They are friendly and willing to help when it is needed. Her medical needs are attended to by the Local GP practice, and the on-site staff, with support from hospital staff if required.
The
home is clean and spacious, with a sheltered central garden area and good facilities.

My mother finally has found somewhere she feels safe and well looked after. She wanted to stay at home but she lost her mobility and was afraid of falling and being alone. Your caring is exceptional. Our mother has been transformed and is enjoying life again. She is happy and beginning to mix in with
the other residents. Thank you for giving her a new lease of life.

We were invited to attend the Cotswold Home pre Christmas lunch which as usual was a really excellent occasion.
We have been associated with the care home for over twelve years as both our mothers were past residents.
Mother in Law was in the home for three years during which time she received excellent
care.
My mother was in the home for nearly eleven years and reached her 100th birthday during that time.
Reply from Rares Pop, General Manager at The Cotswold HomeThank you for your kind review.
We are delighted that you enjoyed the pre-Christmas lunch and truly appreciate your long-standing association with the home. Your generous comments about the care provided to both your mother-in-law and your mother, especially during such significant years, mean a great deal to our team.
We wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and our best wishes for the New Year.

I received a phone call from my mother-in-law early this morning as she was very distressed. She said that there had been a minimal number of staff on duty last night and they appeared to be struggling to meet demands. In recent weeks she has reported waiting for a very long time to be assisted with
personal care, has missed out on drinks and has not had medication/cream applied to her legs.
We feel that Rush Court is falling far short of its excellent aspirations.
*Whilst some staff are good, some are not so good and there appears to be a high proportion of agency staff (hence not giving a higher rating). A new manager has recently been appointed and I understand the staff issue is being addressed.
Reply from Nike Ajewole, General Manager at Rush CourtThank you for your review, as previously discussed with you at the time of raising concern. All issues raised was dealt with promptly and actions put in place.

Thank you for taking the time to review Rush Court. All concerns were actioned and I can assure you that we take any concerns raised seriously and reflect on our practices. I see your mother in-law regularly to ensure she is satisfied with her care and I will continue to monitor her progress. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you will like to discuss any issues. As per our values of Elizabeth Finn homes we strive to provide outstanding care for all of our residents whilst staying at Rush Court.

Having waited over 2 weeks for a response to a letter sent to the Manager following my parents respite stay, we received invoices. Perfectly valid, but with no accompanying letter. I cannot express how upset that made me and prompted me to complete this review.
I believe I was fair in the comments
made. Each point, whilst making my parents stay slightly uncomfortable, were fixable with better communication. The Manager must feel we do not warrant a response. This I find greatly concerning, particulalry where the care of elderly folks is concerned. There should always be a direct route of communication to a Care Home Manager and their duty is to respond to issues raised by either residents or family members for the safeguarding of their patrons.
To those thinking of using this home, I do believe the majority of staff are excellent & I dont want them to feel discouraged. It is spotlessly clean & a lovely environment. I see previouss Manager was quick to respond to issues from family.
Reply from HELEN GRICE, Operations Support Manager at The Cotswold HomeThank you for taking the time to review our home following your parent's recent stay. It's reassuring to read your positive comments, so I am disappointed that you felt the need to raise some less positive points with the home manager . Please be assured that all your issues raised will be investigated thoroughly and responded to.

Rush Court

My mother of 97 was admitted to Rush Court as a residential respite patient following a week of medical care in the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. On admission she was still very frail and poorly mobile with little motivation. Prior to all this she had been slightly struggling to care for herself
in her own small bungalow.
The transfer from Hospital was seamless and she was greeted warmly by lovely staff at Rush Court. Everyone from the reception staff to senior management and the brilliant Physios were remarkable. Caring, efficient and with attention to detail. The environment is amazing and the food excellent.
After 4 weeks in Rush Court she had changed from a slightly depressed, poorly mobile, frail elderly person to a smiling (and occasionally laughing a lot) person walking with a frame and sometimes two sticks. The Physios were incredibly effective.
She didn't want to leave and had nothing but positive experience to report. Highly recommended.

My father had been unwell for a couple of months so he thought that some respite care would be good for him and also for his wife. They were in for 2.5 weeks, sharing a room as they do at home, and the rest did them both the world of good. The food was excellent (I went for lunch one day out of curiosity
and agree with them), the room was comfy, with a lovely view out over the countryside, and the staff were kindness itself. In addition, my stepmum took advantage of the flat and well maintained garden path, and walked all round it at least once a day, which has improved her walking, and as a result, she shuffles much less now. They both agreed it was like a small cosy country hotel and would definitely repeat the experience.
Reply from HELEN GRICE, Operations Support Manager at Rush CourtThank you so much for taking the time to review your parents stay at Rushcourt. Your very kind and positive comments will be shared with the team and we hope to see them both again if a respite stay is needed in the future.

My husband went in for respite during a crisis in our lives. Rush Court is a lovely building in beautiful countryside. The staff are lovely and caring. He had a nice room on the ground floor and elected to have his meals in his room which on reflection was a mistake. The food was of good quality but
often cold when it reached him, particularly the breakfasts. Probably because he was one of very few men there he had no-one to talk to other than the staff and didn't find the activities interesting. He did enjoy the physio sessions though. I went in every day and took him out for a change of scene. We had booked 3 weeks but I brought him home after 2. There was no-one there to say goodbye to us when we left.
Reply from Helen Grice, Operation Support Manager at Rush CourtThankyou so much for taking the time to review Rush Court and for your feedback. As a team we take these reviews very seriously and are very disappointed to read that your husband's stay was not without issues. Your comments will be immediately shared with the care, catering and social engagement teams as we always strive to make resident's stays as positive as possible and it appears this was not the case with your husband. Thank you again for bringing these issues to our attention.

My mother transferred to Rush Court from short term respite care elsewhere but was previously living independently at home so this was a big change for her. She is now living at Rush Court. The welcome and first few weeks have been very warm and positive during this transition. Rush Court itself is
an amazing residence - the landscape and gardens quite stunning and the home has a very calm feeling. All the staff have been very kind supportive and if needed pro active in offering mum support. The food is of a high quality as is the physio she has been offered. Very happy :-)

Having been at Rush Court for respite, my daughter (40 years) is now resident in the Nursing Wing. She has recently returned from a long stay in hospital, where she received messages, birthday cards, videos and presents from the very caring community at this lovely home. It all kept her morale up while
in hospital. She is now delighted to be a Rush Court resident once more. A recent highlight at Rush Court has been the wonderful VE Day 80 afternoon celebration, made special by the thought, hardwork, dedication and enthusiasm of all staft across the home. Stunning decorations; warm-hearted atmosphere; cheerful staff teamwork second to none. Perfect entertainment came from the regular saxophonist with very 40's tunes... Typical for Rush Court -
happiness, nourishment and entertainment!

My friend came to The Cotswold Home from the hospital where she had spent 3 weeks. She cold barely walk when she arrived at The Cotswold Home. My mother moved into Rush Court nearly a year ago. This follows an earlier period of respite care at Rush Court prior to a hip operation. When living at home became too difficult for Mum, she was in no doubt that she wanted to return to Rush Court. She was warmly welcomed back and my sisters and I were
immediately reassured and relieved that Mum was back in the best possible place.
Until a recent period of ill health, Mum has enjoyed the facilities, activities, and beautiful rural location of Rush Court. She loves the garden and enjoys walking in it on a daily basis. The staff and management are all caring and highly professional; they always 'go the extra mile' to be helpful and supportive to me and other family members, especially during Mum's current period of ill health.
Rush Court is a welcoming place that feels like home. It is always a pleasure to visit, noting that its peaceful out-of-town location might be a little inconvenient for visitors who are reliant on public transport.

My mother spent two happy years in the Nursing wing at Rush Court having broken her kneecap after a fall at home and was therefore unable to continue living independently. Initially, she missed her independence but with a combination of outstanding physio and her own determination she was able to walk
again, and with the encouragement and kindness of all the staff she was able to resume her busy life within the home. She loved all the activities (even though by her own admission she was "no good" at some of them) and went on all the available outings until she became too frail.
She died just before Christmas after a brief illness just short of her 98th birthday, having been nursed devotedly by the staff until the end. So much so that I found a note by her bedside written about two days before she died in a very wobbly hand, saying "I want to thank all the nurses and carers who were help to me - it has been a happy time. Love to you all"
Grateful thanks from all our family...

Few of us want to have to make the decision to move a parent into a care home but when their safety requires this, it is very comforting to know that your parent is living in a lovely environment where all the staff care about the residents and really build a relationship with them. It is natural that
residents' health will change over time, sometimes quite suddenly; we have found the staff at Rush Court very supportive through this next stage of a somewhat challenging journey.
A very good variety of activities are arranged. There is also a good selection of culinary options.
I am very grateful for the care (in the real sense of that word) which is provided.
Reply from Clifford Hutchings, General Manager at Rush CourtThank you for taking the time to provide us with this review and feedback. We are pleased that you when you had to make the decision along with your mum, that it was time to move into long-term care, that you chose Rush Court/our team to care for her. It is good to hear that you have found the flexibility of the team to adapt to the changing healthcare needs of your mum to be so responsive. I will of course share this feedback with the wider team including non-clinical colleagues.
