My Mother came to stay at Fernbrook following a 2 week stay in hospital in April 2021. She had advanced vascular dementia and had reached the point that care at home with her family was no longer an option. She was discharged from hospital in to Fernbrooks care. While in hospital she had developed heel ulcers , which as a type 2diabetic , confined to bed would be extremely difficult to heal. She received the most amazing care at Fernbrook under Lillian's direction and her heels healed up from being ungradable. An incredible result. We as a family, cannot express enough ,the amazing love and care my Mum received at Fernbrook. She was so happy in the 4.5 years she spent there. Diane made sure Mum was included in everything even though she was nursed in bed and not mobile. Mum sadly passed away in November 2025. The Fernbrook family supported us too. The care and love shown to Mum throughout her stay was outstanding. We will be forever grateful.
My husband came to live at Fernbrook House in Sept last year, in all honesty my initial impression of the building was concern as it looked very run down but once I met everyone there my fears and worries just washed away. The nursing is 10 out of 10 and I've come to love all of the staff who are so caring and make me feel that I have nothing to worry about. My husband is safe and cared for and I feel so grateful to have found Fernbrook which is my second home now as I visit daily.
From her son Colin
I visit this home on a regular basis to see the special staff who cared for my wife for over three and a half years. While it is true my wife died in 2024 she had the best of care from some of the most caring people I have ever met, which is why I still visit to this and will continue as long as I am able.
I want to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the staff of Boscombe Lodge Nursing Home. They cared for my mother since covid until February 9th 2026 when she sadly passed away aged 100 years old. Whenever I visited she was always happy and was well cared for - she loved the light banter with the girls as she called them. They made a great fuss of her on her 100th birthday and I will always be grateful for making her day so special. Thank you everyone from the cleaners to the kitchen staff and of course the nursing staff for looking after my mum and making me feel so welcome whenever I visited.
We have no hesitation recommending Boscombe lodge.
My aunt has been in this care home for some years now and has deteriorated, I had visited her not long after she had moved in to this place to find her in bed in the middle of the day with a badly swollen knee and the staff couldn't tell me how she done this , also plug socket hanging out of wall which I had to ask them to fix on my second visit as it had not been touched, she has had several falls and now have just been told she had blisters from hot tea on her body , she is notable to walk or talk and this is negligible.
My Auntie was in Boscombe Lodge for over 5 years until she recently passed away. During that time the team at the Home were always extremely professional, caring, kind and supportive to my Auntie, other residents and to visitors alike. It was so clear that each of the carers genuinely cared about the residents and that their aim is to make the rest of their life no matter how long or short count and to be lived with dignity. I found the standard of care to be of an exceptionally high standard and would recommend this nursing home to prospective residents with no hesitation.
My Auntie has now sadly passed away during the past week. But she was at Boscombe Lodge for over 5 years. When she went into the Nursing Home in October 2019 the prognosis wasn't very good at all and the Hospital gave her weeks or months. She wasn't even opening her mouth to eat at the time. But the care team, particularly the Nursing Manager of the Home, did everything she could possibly do for my Aunt and I could see what great care went into looking after her during her final years. I will be forever grateful for what they did for my Aunt. and Every time I visited I always felt extremely welcomed. I found all the staff very friendly, and pleasant and treated me with respect. Even the maintenance and office staff.
My mum was discharged from hospital into Boscombe Lodge. Mum was cared for incredibly well. Although she was bedridden, Mum was washed regularly, preventing any bed sores etc. Mum really picked up in this care home. Sadly, we lost mum in September 2024, the home did everything they could to keep Mum comfortable. Would definitely recommend.
I do not recommend Boscombe Lodge. My dad was discharged there by the Hospital. First impressions weren’t good, the first thing the manager said was Dad's prognosis wasn’t good and who was paying for his care; which I found very insensitive. Residential care was a big step for Dad, he had been living independently. Sadly my first impression was correct, in the short time Dad was at Boscombe, the carers said he was lactose intolerant (he isn’t) and wouldn’t allow him milk or dairy products, they put sweets or biscuits given to him by visitors, out of his reach and told me not bring them for him. I noticed my father becoming confused (he does not have dementia) and flagged that he may have an infection, it took several days for this to be acted on and he became more confused. Dad’s time there ended when he broke a hip after an unwitnessed fall, in his room. The A&E doctor said he had a UTI and Hyponatremia. Dad did not return and is now well cared for at a different care home.
My god-mother was given the best quality care, support, respect and advice during her stay and indeed all of us as family equally relieved support, friendship and it is with thanks to them that she has progressed so well after coming out of hospital. All the staff work extremely hard and truly Fernbrook House feels like a warm home with some of the nicest staff one could hope to meet! Nothing is ever a problem and I am extremely grateful to all there. Thank you all so much! There were many activities to do, with people always asking my god-mother if she needed anything from tea and coffee to helping her with paperwork and her mobile phone. The therapy robotic cat had an amazing impact on her wellbeing and it truly made a turning point for her. She felt safe and happy!
Our friend was discharged to Fernbrook just over a year ago after suffering a few strokes, and since arriving, we have experienced nothing but the best from the staff team in terms of passion and care. They really enjoy their jobs - evidenced by their longevity of service, and because they are happy, they go the extra mile to ensure people in their care are happy. The physical site is tired looking but I'd rather have a team of committed people looking after our friend with real care than have her in a fancy-looking place where the staff doesn't care. They provide a range of activities and stimulation - from karaoke singing to bringing in friendly dogs and sheep for people to pet and hold. We especially enjoy receiving their regular newsletters that keep us up to date with all that is happening. Hats off to the manager and her team for providing such a warm environment!
Thank you for such a lovely review, we are so pleased you are happy with the care your loved one is receiving. We try hard as a team to create a happy and caring environment whilst delivering person-centred care, it's always heartwarming to hear that we are succeeding and that it is appreciated.
When my stepfather was discharged from hospital to Fernbrook following a major stroke, I was hesitant about the nursing home as they didn’t have a website, hence it was difficult to find reviews or get any information on the home. My stepfather’s stay was only for two weeks, during which I was unable to see him due to COVID restrictions. He was sent back to the hospital another two weeks later where they informed me that he had suffered another stroke and had developed a painful pressure sore during their care. I visited Fernbrook most days to wave and attempt to communicate to my father through the window. In hindsight, I recall he was always just sitting in an armchair. Overall I would not recommend Fernbrook. My father subsequently passed away, at another care home with dignity.
I cannot praise this care home highly enough and would recommend it to anyone looking for a place where their loved one will be looked after and cherished. When searching for a home for my partner originally I was lulled into a false sense of security by the ridiculous untrue blurb on certain websites and I chose a home that supposedly specialised in Parkinsons and Dementia. In fact this home specialised in taking money for doing little in return and could not get rid of my partner quickly enough. This was where Fernbrook House stepped in. OK they don’t have expensive leather settees and fancy chandeliers but they DO have a staff who really care about their residents and always go the extra mile to help. Sadly my partner died in February but I will never forget the staff at Fernbrook. They made her last days worth living.
Thank you all for looking after and making my mother's last years as comfortable as possible!
Her pressure sores started to clear up and remarkably were pretty much clear within a year. She has had a couple of turns for the worse in her time there and Fernbrook have been brilliant. Staff there throughout have been really lovely people. For my bedbound mother-in-law and her severe Alzheimer’s condition, this place ticks all the boxes and we are very happy she’s there!
The Management, Nurses and Care staff at Fernbrook Nursing Home are such friendly, warm and very caring people. My Mother is a resident at the home, having had 3 weeks prior to this in Southend Hospital with an infection. All the staff have actively engaged and encouraged my Mother to eat and drink and get better, and she seems much happier in this relaxed and comfortable environment.
I would certainly recommend this Nursing Home as an excellent place to friends and relatives.
Just to add, a very Big thank you to all the great staff there for your help in caring for mum. Best Wishes.
Very reassuring arrival during a difficult time. Caring staff. Including management and care nurses. Nice room, super care overall. My Dad was very happy with the room, the lovely staff, overall atmosphere pretty much to the end. It meant a lot to my sister and I and Dads many friends that he was in good care even when we could not be there. A big thank you to all staff who cared for my late Dad.
