Wessex Lodge Nursing Home

A beautiful and very dear friend spent her final weeks at Wessex lodge. Her room was impeccable and they allowed friends and family to decorate it however we chose to. The staff at this care home went above and beyond, my friend was well cared for, always clean and tidy. The food was also great and
family/friends are able to stay for a meal with their loved one for a small fee. Wessex lodge has long term residents who are provided with a varied entertainment schedule. It was a bonus to be able to use the outdoor space to relax and enjoy the sunshine. The end of life care provided was kind and compassionate. Medically trained staff were available to ensure that symptoms and pain were kept under control as much as possible. Wessex Lodge has some incredible staff who managed to comfort us during the darkest times and treated us like a part of the Wessex Lodge family.
Reply from Sherlyn Rowland, Home Manager at Wessex Lodge Nursing HomeThank you for your kind review. All our residents and their friends and families are our extended family. It is our privilege to care for them and knowing that we are doing a good job encourages us, and striving to always do better.

My son kindly drove me from Hertfordshire to visit my brother in Wessex Lodge. He is a resident following many strokes. In a very bad way, but with excellent care, he is surviving. We were very impressed with the lovely welcome we got - we arrived unannounced because I did not dare let them know in
case things changed. My husband is in care in Herts after a bad fall, and he can't walk. My brother was much better than I expected. His carer helped him with his coffee - we were also welcomed with coffee. A 2 1/2 hours drive I may not be able to do again. The home is excellent, and so are the staff!
Reply from Sherlyn Rowland, Home Manager at Wessex Lodge Nursing HomeThank you for your kind review. We are so pleased that your visit was a positive experience, and you have enjoyed time spent with your brother. It is an absolute pleasure and an honour to care for all the residents in our home.

I visit Marlborough House 4 to 5 times a week. Staff are always very friendly and always make me feel welcome. I do feel that my mum is very well looked after. My mum has been in Marlborough House for almost 6 months now. Her anxiety, general health and appearance have definitely improved. She seems
happy that she is being looked after so well.

My mother moved to Marlborough House a year ago from hospital on end of life care. Within two weeks she had gained strength and withon a month or two was almost back to how she was before being in hospital. I put this down to the care she has received at Marlborough House. The staff are all wonderfulm
so kind and caring. The manager is responsive and always available. The food is excellent, my mother was not eating much at home, but now really enjoys her meals.
We are so delighted Mum is at Marlborough House, she's very happy. I would wholeheartedly recommend the home.

Our experience of Wessex Lodge so far is fine ish but no more than that. There are some members of staff who are exceptional but there is quite a serious issue with weekend staffing that has never been rectified.
Agency staff sadly are a lottery and there have been times when I was alarmed upon visiting
which I found upsetting. With some of the more serious incidents, which I reported, the response was lacklustre which was disappointing.
I think if you're a fit and able resident looking for company then Wessex Lodge is probably very good but if you or your relative is requiring permanent care and an environment that supports this, then I think there are probably other homes better suited to this.

My mother had the most wonderful care for over 5 1/2 years whilst a resident. She was well looked after and always clean and comfortable. I lived overseas for 4 years of that time. The home would send us regular email updates, or if needed, would call. My mother passed this week, the home were excellent
at helping me through this.

I have found the staff very helpful and will go that extra mile, if my husband lets them, as he has dementia. The home is a bit tired looking, but it has been renovated, and there is always someone working on it, and they let my husband help, so this helps him and keeps him happy, as part of his job
involved working outside. The staff are very obliging with relatives and very reassuring.

We have been very happy with now my nan has settled into Berehill House, and that has been down to the outstanding care that all staff have demonstrated consistently, not only to my nan but also my grandad when he has been visiting. All staff behave with such empathy, compassion, and thoughtfulness,
alongside their professionalism. My nan is now eating better and joining in with activities. She has settled in so well.

A huge thanks to all of the care staff at Berehill House for the help, support, and most especially the kindness they showed my dad during his time there.
From the moment he arrived at Berehill he quickly grew to enjoy being there and loved getting to know both the staff and residents. They all made
his final months feel settled, happy, and as comfortable as possible during what was a very difficult period as his health declined. For that, I truly cannot thank them enough.
Dad often spoke about the wonderful conversations he had with the care staff. He fondly mentioned the little moments that meant so much to him - breakfasts with the residents, the bird experience, and even the fast food chicken nuggets and apple pies provided. He genuinely enjoyed getting to know everyone at Berehill and they became like a second family to him.
I would like to pass on my heartfelt thanks to everyone at Berehill from myself and my family for everything they have done.

My uncle had a very short stay at Marlborough House during which time he was cared for with great love and respect.
I was very impressed by the relaxed and happy atmosphere in the home. Everyone greets you with a smile, from the management and admin team to all the nurses, maintenance staff, laundry
personnel and nothing is too much trouble. I never met the kitchen staff but my uncle really enjoyed the tasty meals.
The home is spotless and nicely decorated providing a pleasant environment for everyone.
The rooms are of a nice size and well looked after.
I am very thankful for the kind and loving care that my uncle was given.

My dad moved into Marlborough House in January 2025, and the difference in him since then has been remarkable. He was struggling with various health issues after a lengthy hospital stay, but, thanks to the consistent, compassionate care he now receives, his wellbeing has greatly improved.
The staff
are always warm, welcoming, and professional. Dad is immobile and needs to be moved by hoist into his chair, and this is always done with care, dignity, and encouragement. They support him to get up and out of bed as much as possible, which has helped keep him more engaged and comfortable.
We're so grateful for the exceptional care he receives. It's made a world of difference to him and given our family real peace of mind.

This is more of a generic rather than related to one visit! The home is well run and presented well after recently undergoing a refit. The staff are always friendly and all I have seen is kindness and compassion to the residents. Sometimes I feel they are under staffed due to buzzer response times but
they do very well with the staff they have. I would recommend Berehill well done to manager + staff.
