Hill Brow Residential Home - A Village with a Roof!

We arrived at Hill Brow Residential Home with the usual mixture of hope and trepidation. Would we settle in? Would we like it? Would we survive the food?

Well, we needn't have worried!

With around 30 residents, Hill Brow feels much more like a friendly little village than a residential home. You soon get to know people, there is always someone to have a chat with, and there's usually a good deal of laughter along the way.

The staff are wonderful - friendly, kind, patient and always ready to help. They seem to have mastered the difficult art of looking after people without making them feel as though they are being "looked after".

And the food deserves a special mention. It's varied, plentiful and genuinely enjoyable - which is important when eating is one of the main activities left to us!

There's a lovely, relaxed atmosphere at Hill Brow. Nobody pretends that growing older is always easy, but there is a real sense of community,

My parents moved into Farnham Mill Nursing home earlier this year and were there together until they died within a week of each other - they had been married for over 70 years. I cannot over-state the compassionate and patient care they received from all the staff I and my siblings met. Above all, the staff were extremely flexible in providing for our parents' needs, adapting quickly as these changed in a way I suspect may be very unusual - nothing was too much trouble. Farnham Mill has a bright and peaceful environment with a beautiful garden where our parents spent much of their time, and an ethos whereby all the staff I met, despite their often challenging and demanding work, always seemed to have time for a chat whether with our parents or, often, with us as visiting family. This mattered hugely to us as our parents became ever more frail and unable to look after themselves. We had looked at other care homes, but were so glad we decided on Farnham Mill.

I came here after 6 days in hospital and have spent 43 days. I am going home today. The care has been excellent, and I have been nursed back to health. The food is lovely and i never left a crumb the staff are caring and nothing is too much trouble i cannot praise it enough. I would consider choosing Farnham Mill in the future, if I needed longer care

There is a lot of fun and laughter at the home. Mum still has a great sense of humour and regularly makes everyone laugh. There are daily activities that over time she has started to take part in. She particularly likes the quizzes and discussions that they all take part in. During the summer they have regular BBQ's and family members are encouraged to attend. It's become a home from home for me, I now know all of the staff, I visit mum 3 times a week & look forward to not only seeing her but everyone else at Hill Brow.

I find the staff are very good and caring to the residents and there's a lot of activities going on, the residents are always busy doing things. The home is very welcoming and always offer teas and coffees.

My husband has been a resident for one month and my family have found the care provided to be exemplary. The Carers have worked hard to increase his mobility and they show great patience and kindness towards him. The staff also extend these attributes to my family, making us feel part of the Hill House 'family'. The Nurses are very proactive in gauging the medication needs. Everyone is very approachable and I feel that I am kept informed of all aspects of my husband's daily life in the home. There are plenty of activities to stimulate the residents. To sum up, I have a warm feeling when I walk into the home.

Each week is full of activities and events. The gardens are beautifully kept and for us it is more of a feeling of not visiting Mum in a care home but visiting Mum at home.

My friend's mum has called this care home her home for nearly three years. The atmosphere is wonderfully warm and family oriented. The staff are exceptionally patient, friendly and genuinely caring. The meals are absolutely delicious, too! There is always something happening to keep residents engaged. The daily activities and organised outings give everyone something special to look forward to.

My sister was admitted to Farnham Mill Nursing Home on 26 March 2026 having broken her hip and being hospitalized four weeks. When she was admitted to Farnham Mill, she was severely under-nourished and in very poor health. Within four months, she has gained weight, become much more positive and active. The staff have shown exceptional care and kindness and have been proactive in assessing her needs. I cannot fault Farnham Mill in any area.

It's a huge decision and one now which we are so glad that we made. The staff are unbelievably caring and attentive to her needs. She has truly come back to life, getting involved with the activities, mixing with other residents and generally seeming better in herself. She celebrated her 97th birthday in care recently which was a joy to see. We have visited when woodlands have bbq's and cream-teas which has been wonderful. I would thoroughly recommend. I feel comforted in the fact that she is really looked after. Thank you Woodlands

Our Mum was in-residence with Farnham Mill Care Home for 18 months until she sadly passed away recently. Mum was living with dementia and complex medical needs which caused her frustration at times. During Mum's stay in Farnham Mill we were so pleased with the care and attention she received. The staff do an amazing job in very difficult circumstances and are at all times highly professional, caring and just want to do the best for the people they care for. At all times Mum was treated with dignity and respect. The family do not feel a better care home could have been found where the staff work so hard to create a caring family-type atmosphere. I highly recommend Farnham Mill Care Home.

Dad needed temporary respite care which ended up lasting 2 months before he moved to permanent accommodation. The admin team were very helpful and flexible even when we couldn't give them a firm date for how long Dad would stay. His room was comfortable, the nursing, care and reception staff were attentive and caring. Dad thoroughly enjoyed his time at Hill House and as a family we were always made very welcome each time we visited.

I have visited 5 care homes and this is the best care home.

We are so happy that we chose Hill House for my mother-in-law. The home has such a lovely caring family vibe which we noticed as soon as we walked through the front door. The care shown to my mother in law has been exceptional particularly when her husband sadly passed away in March. Her health deteriorated at this time with grief but the support & care from the staff has brought her back to strength & she is very much enjoying life again. She is always included in the numerous activities & loves to go on outings. There are also regular family events that take place at Hill House which we have enjoyed sharing with her. An especially thoughtful touch was a lovely family birthday celebration prepared by the staff to mark her special day. Thank you to all the staff at Hill House.

Mum has been resident in Hill House for nearly two years. She was initially in the downstairs large lounge, then moved to upstairs where there is a smaller dementia unit for those that find it difficult to deal with lots of people and noise, which were affecting Mum. It is a lovely community with several ladies in a similar physical and mental condition. Everyone who works there does so because they enjoy it, they care. It has a wonderful, happy, caring atmosphere and everyone is so friendly. They put on a lot of meetings for relatives to gain feedback, and their social events allow residents and their families time to eat, drink, and enjoy music together.

The care Mum received at the end of her life was truly exceptional and we were able to spend those precious final days simply being with her due to the fantastic care she received. We highly recommend Hill House, outstanding care for our lovely Mum.

Our mother has been living at Farnham Mill for a number of years now and whilst becoming increasingly frail and dependent on staff for all her care needs she is still able to enjoy some quality of life. As well as being very much looked after by all the staff you sense that they really do care for Mum and the other residents, it is never just a job for them. When we celebrated Mum's birthday in May they made a great fuss of her with a lovely cake and singing happy birthday and you sensed that Mum knew something special was going on. It meant a great deal for the immediate family who were there to share that celebration with her. All the staff at Farnham Mill do an amazing job in their various roles and it gives us peace of mind to know that Mum could not be in better hands and a lovelier care home.

Also the young lady whose name I have forgotten who was on reception the first time I visited and showed me around and took me up to my Mother's room was excellent.

We experienced kindness and warmth from all staff at all levels. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were accessible at all times. Knowing that mum was safe and well looked after was a huge relief after a lengthy hospital stay. Dad was made to feel very welcome from his visit to mum, this enabled him to spend valuable time with her in the privacy of her room, with regular cups of tea! Mum didn't always take part in activities but they certainly seemed all inclusive and engaging!
