Hill Brow is a purpose-designed 30-bed family owned and run care home, which is rated Outstanding by CQC (April 2022). Friendly trained carers contribute towards a homely and happy atmosphere in which residents are supported in their choices and lifestyles. All of the team are permanent, agency staff are never used allowing strong relationships to form between residents and team.

The residents' independence, dignity and care is at the centre of everything the staff of Hill Brow do. The home also works closely with other health care professionals in providing 24-hour care, which helps to reduce the need for hospital admissions.

There is a full and diverse activities programme, providing many opportunities to socialise. Outside there are beautiful landscaped gardens with flat paths and a large fish pond for residents to enjoy. The residents take an active role in running the home, helping to create the menu's, activities and social programme. My Mother has dementia and been resident at these premises for over a year now.
Admittedly the road has not been easy at times, but my Mum is safe, well and well cared for.
The staff are superb. I have no qualms for leaving her in their care.

What's not to love about Hill Brow? The staff are all fantastic, the home is exactly that, a home to the residents who live there. Always lots of activities going on that my mother (in law) thoroughly enjoys. Great food and variety and she also can have a glass of wine with dinner. I'm absolutely thrilled
that my mother in law is a Hill Brow resident and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

My mum has been a resident for over 2 years and i cannot praise the home enough. Every member of staff treats her as though she were a member of their family with respect and love. That care also extends to myself and friends when we visit her. The residents enjoy life with great food, plenty of activities
and wonderful staff .

I cannot speak highly enough of the incredible people who make Hillbrow such a special place. From the moment my mother arrived, the staff have shown genuine care, compassion, and dedication that goes far beyond what you might expect. They treat residents with dignity and warmth, creating an environment
that truly feels like a home.
A special mention must go to Bev, the manager, who consistently goes above and beyond. Her leadership, kindness, and attention to detail are evident in everything she does. She takes the time to get to know residents and their families personally, and it shows in the high standard of care provided throughout the home.
Since moving here, my mother's quality of life has improved, she is happier, more comfortable, and clearly feels safe and supported.
Over the years, as her needs have changed, the staff have adapted with patience and understanding, always ensuring she receives the right level of care.
We are very grateful to of found this home for my mum.

Absolutely fantastic. My grandmother recently moved to Hill Brow and is settling in really well. The staff are friendly, observant and quick to assist as well as always being available to provide a knowledgeable update on my grandmother. Hill Brow is beautifully furnished and homely which is a huge
comfort to residents. Meals are 5 star and options are available to cater for all. Hill Brow provides all week round entertainment including outings, craft and music and more. Fellow residents are lovely and there is a wonderful 'family' atmosphere. I have been left more than impressed with the home and staff at Hill Brow and their above and beyond reproach to making my grandmothers transition to residential care as best as possible.

I'm over the moon that Hill Brow had a place for my mum who has Alzheimer's.
All of the staff are very friendly and approachable. They went above & beyond to make her feel at home when she moved in two months ago.
She now feels very happy happy there and is settled.
Hill Brow has a very homely feel,
is warm and very clean. The food is very good too!

My mother was a resident at Hill Brow for 4 years until her recent passing.
During her stay she was extremely happy and content. It would be unfair to single out any member of staff as they all were so attentive and caring. Nothing was too much trouble 24 hrs a day.She had a lovely ground floor room
with patio doors leading onto a lovely kept garden .It was always a joy to arrive and see her sitting outside enjoying her cups of tea and newspapers. Food, entertainment and outings were so well geared for all residents with various needs.
The attention to detail in all matters was impressive .
We could not have wished for a better place for my mother to enjoy her final years at the age of 96.

HillBrow has been excellent for Dad. The care is consistent, warm and friendly and carried out with a smile. Staff are employed (not agency staff) often for a long time which is an indication as to how well they themselves are treated as valued employees.
The home is run professionally to a high
standard, the food is good and entertainment is plentiful for those who want to join in. We can't recommend them highly enough.

My mum has been a resident at Hill Brow since late December 2024. She had experienced several falls whilst living at home and was quite frail when she arrived at Hill Brow. During the past 9 months her health has improved, she has gained a little weight and she is very happy.

The environment is warm

and friendly and every staff member I have encountered has treated mum with a wonderful friendly respect. There are so many activities every day that there is always something to stimulate and entertain.

I cannot thank the staff enough for all the care and attention they have given to my mum.

I have been visiting my friend's Mum here for nearly two years and I have to say what a warm and friendly, more like family, environment the home is. She is usually having a laugh with one of the staff who are all polite, helpful and caring. There is a wide variety of activities to keep the residents
stimulated, including outings each week. The food is excellent, again a varied choice each day. The family BBQ's and quiz nights are very popular. A lovely place for loved ones to be cared for and safe.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.974) out of 10 for Hill Brow Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.974 for Hill Brow Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (484 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 497 Ratings = 4.974
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hill Brow Residential Care Home is based on 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 42 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I believe everyone should receive compassion and outstanding care in their later years and that this can be achieved with well-trained and good staff working in partnership with our residents and their families and other Health Care Specialists and Professionals.

Job Title: Resident Liaison Manager Joined: 2023

My role is incredibly rewarding. I am part of a massive life-changing decision that is incredibly personal and needs to be made with confidence. I think of myself as a guide for families and individuals during this new chapter of their life.

I help support them with any questions and concerns but what I love most is every day I get to meet new people, hear their life stories and build great relationships with them and their families. Once they have moved in it is a joy to watch our residents thrive and enjoy life, and loved ones too.

Job Title: Training Manager Joined: 2025

I have worked in the health and social care sector for the last 13 years. Every role has been in and around training and development. Being able to develop our staff to deliver even greater care and service to our residents is something I take great pride in. Woodlands & Hill Brow is a family-run business, and this is one of the main reasons I wanted to move here, away from more corporate roles.

Job Title: Activities Coordinator Joined: 2012

I love my job as an activities coordinator. The most important part of my day to me is spending quality time with the residents whether in a group activity or chatting on a one to one basis. I particularly enjoy the art and craft activities. When I first started the Wednesday afternoon Art Club I could only persuade a few of the residents to join in, now I have residents and their family join in!

A regular Friday afternoon activity which I introduced soon after I started in this role is Word Association. I always get full attendance for this as the associations can be very unpredictable and humorous.

Story writing is another popular activity. I usually try to tie the theme into a current event or choose a popular childhood memory to develop into a story, however by far the most popular theme is a murder mystery. All of the residents have an opportunity to add a suggestion which is included in the story. The stories are a great way to bring out their sense of humour and it never fails to surprise me how inventive they can be.

I have also introduced food and cooking activities where I have helped the residents pipe onto cakes and biscuits with chocolate or icing and they get to eat their own creations! I use my love of art, cake decorating and watercolour painting to develop new projects and my latest creation is a giant bingo game which can also be used for quiz questions. We always look forward to our weekly outings and also the musicians that come to perform.

It’s a real privilege to be able to spend so much time with our residents. I feel very much appreciated by our residents and enjoy being part of the team at Hill Brow.
