I have been a resident in Hillbrow Care Home for six months. I selected this home after careful consideration and following two week's respite care as a trial period. I cannot speak too highly of Hillbrow, for the standard of accommodation, the beautiful tended garden and, most importantly of all, the care received. The staff are caring, attentive and kind. My needs, as they are at present, are met in every way. Not only that but the work ethic of the staff ensures a happy and enjoyable atmosphere as they are high profile and always to be found among the residents making all of us feel special and worthwhile. The activities provided are many and varied and there is always something for everyone. All given with great spirit and brightness and it is a delight to participate in those things which appeal most from the programme. I think perhaps the biggest compliment I can give to Hillbrow is to say that I feel a contentment here which is fundamental to the quality of life is it not.

My mother moved into Hill Brow in November 2023. To be honest she was frail and I was concerned how well she'd do. My goodness, she is a different woman! The care she receives here is second to none. I would say that without exception every member of staff really cares. She adores them all. The chef seems to know exactly what every resident likes so that if one day they don't fancy what is on the menu he comes up with something he knows they will like. The manager is simply fantastic and so engaged and sensitive to the client's needs. The owners visit regularly - weekly at least (it's not their only property) and chat with the residents. The team communicate well and ensures our family are up-to-date and happy with Mum's care. The whole place is clean and airy and the garden is delightful, with lots of little spots to sit and enjoy the planting and pond. I cannot say enough good things about Hill Brow. 10/10!

I am always amazed and delighted by the care and attention given to my mother; as her condition will only worsen over time, the team at Hill Brow are truly amazing at making sure she is happy and comfortable. She feels safe and secure at the home despite her confusion and as a family, we could not ask for more from the team. The communication from the staff is excellent in keeping us updated and really appreciate the regular reviews. Thank you Hill Brow!

My family are very pleased that we chose Hill Brow for our relative. He has been at Hill Brow for over 2 years and is thriving. He enjoys the company of the other residents, and the staff are wonderful. The staff take good care to get to know each resident individually, and for us, it is a plus that the home does not use any agency staff. The staff are approachable and we can talk to them at any time. I like that there are no visiting restrictions and we are able to drop in when it suits us, just as we would have done if he were still living in his own home.

My relative enjoys the meals; we have also joined him for lunch on a few occasions and can confirm that the food is delicious!

Dad has now been a resident at Hill Brow for just over two years, he is very settled, and it has become a familiar and safe space for him, with staff who are always friendly and positive, and allow time for his needs. We (his family) are encouraged to meet and speak regularly with the senior team, and they always make time to address our questions and assist with requests. We have always been contacted in a timely way, if there are ever any concerns about Dad's health, or need for escalation in his care. Dad enjoys meals in the communal dining area, meals are varied and tasty; he is encouraged to take part in the daily activities which are arranged. It is very reassuring to know that he is cared for in such a genuinely thoughtful way.

This residential home is amazing. The facilities are first class. Rooms that I have seen are very neat and tidy, my relation has a patio door out into a garden area. The grounds are very well maintained with lovely walking areas for the residents to stroll around. The food is very good quality. The home's biggest asset is the staff. They are always smiling, no request is too much trouble and they genuinely seem to enjoy what they do which means the place has a very positive atmosphere. Keep doing what you are doing as it’s working very well!

My mother has had Alzheimer's disease for 5 years and I thought it would be such a hard process to find somewhere for my mother to stay. I made a phone call to Hill Brow, and I can honestly say that was the best phone call I ever made. I explained my situation, would they have any space? Within a few days someone contacted me regarding an assessment date. My mum was assessed at home and passed the test to stay at Hill Brow.

The day came to drop my mum off and I thought what is she going to think about the situation, but my mum settled in as soon as she got through the front door. My mum was chatting with residents before I even left the building. This was a great feeling for me, to also know my mother was going to be very safe. The staff at Hill Brow are absolutely amazing and make everyone feel special and very welcome. This is what we need more of in life. If you are reading this review and you are thinking of sending one of your family members I can honestly say they are 100%.

I usually pop in to see my father-in-law a couple of times a week and I always find the staff very pleasant and welcoming. The carers are patient and keep their sense of humour, some of them even putting music on the virtual assistant when they are getting him dressed in the morning. Nothing ever seems to be too much trouble for them. My father-in-law is very happy and says the care couldn’t be better.

I spent a long time visiting several care homes before choosing Hill Brow for my mother and I am confident that it was the best care home I could have chosen for her. The staff were very welcoming and I was impressed that they knew the residents so well. This is partly due to all the staff being permanent so the care for the residents is consistent and personal. I also was pleased that Hill Brow is family run and my mother often tells me when the owner has been in with her dog and has had a chat with her. The residents are never treated as a number because Hill Brow is small enough for everyone to know each other both staff and residents.

There are many activities arranged and some outings planned on a weekly basis. The food is very good and the chef makes a special effort to get to know the residents and will make an alternative if needs be. The open plan dining room with conservatory and lounge makes it a bright home with big windows looking onto the beautiful garden with a pond.

My aunt became a permanent resident of Hill Brow in October 2022. Following a couple of falls and time spent in hospital, she went to stay at Hill Brow in September for a period of respite care where it soon became apparent that it was the right place for her. Being a very private person, it took her a little while to settle, but she now feels very much part of the Hill Brow family. Through choice, she doesn’t join in with many of the numerous activities on offer, but she knows that if she wants to do so she would be made to feel most welcome. She delights in having her hair done every week, the pamper sessions and physiotherapy that she gets. She is very complimentary about the care and attention she receives and speaks very fondly of the staff. As a family, we have been delighted with the improvements in her health and mobility that we have seen since her arrival at Hill Brow. We know that she is in safe hands, being well looked after and cared for.

The care staff at Hill Brow are absolutely fantastic and take excellent care of the residents. They are wonderful caring people who take a genuine interest in the residents' well-being. They have a really good schedule of activities to keep everyone active and entertained. However, despite continual feedback, the food continues to be below par. This is unfortunate as I would give them 5 stars if the food could be improved.

I have been personally so pleased and relieved that mum has been lucky enough to find a place at Hillbrow. Refusing help in the home but wandering and causing chaos in the local community, led to an urgent need for mum to be cared for, Hillbrow were immediately understanding and she was offered various choices and came very quickly and supportively to our rescue. The staff are always caring, kind, welcoming and very professional in their approach and make the environment home from home with excellent food and personal care.

Mum was offered lots of choices and now mum has been there since April and I have no qualms about her comfort or the activities they provide including trips out and a well-maintained home area, bedrooms, showering and bathroom facilities and regular staff including a small safe garden.

I would recommend Hillbrow to anyone looking for care.

I'm Lynn, and I work as a Chef at Hill Brow. I absolutely love being part of such a caring company that values and supports its employees. The management team is incredibly supportive and always prioritizes the well-being of the residents and staff.

One of the best parts of my job is preparing meals for the residents at Hill Brow. I make sure to have individual conversations with each resident to learn about their favourite foods and preferred drinks. It's important to me that they are happy, so I strive to provide them with wholesome, delicious, and nutritious meals that they truly enjoy.

Dawn Devin
Dawn DevinJob Title Activities CoordinatorJoined 2012

I love my job as an activities coordinator. The most important part of my day to me is spending quality time with the residents whether in a group activity or chatting on a one to one basis. I particularly enjoy the art and craft activities. When I first started the Wednesday afternoon Art Club I could only persuade a few of the residents to join in, now I have residents and their family join in!

A regular Friday afternoon activity which I introduced soon after I started in this role is Word Association. I always get full attendance for this as the associations can be very unpredictable and humorous.

Story writing is another popular activity. I usually try to tie the theme into a current event or choose a popular childhood memory to develop into a story, however by far the most popular theme is a murder mystery. All of the residents have an opportunity to add a suggestion which is included in the story. The stories are a great way to bring out their sense of humour and it never fails to surprise me how inventive they can be.

I have also introduced food and cooking activities where I have helped the residents pipe onto cakes and biscuits with chocolate or icing and they get to eat their own creations! I use my love of art, cake decorating and watercolour painting to develop new projects and my latest creation is a giant bingo game which can also be used for quiz questions. We always look forward to our weekly outings and also the musicians that come to perform.

It’s a real privilege to be able to spend so much time with our residents. I feel very much appreciated by our residents and enjoy being part of the team at Hill Brow.
