Hill Brow is a purpose-designed 30-bed family owned and run care home, which is rated outstanding by CQC (April 2022). Friendly trained carers contribute towards a homely and happy atmosphere in which residents are supported in their choices and lifestyles. All of the team are permanent, agency staff are never used allowing strong relationships to form between residents and team.

The resident’s independence, dignity and care is at the centre of everything the staff of Hill Brow do. The home also works closely with other health care professionals in providing 24-hour care, which helps to reduce the need for hospital admissions.

There is a full and diverse activities programme, providing many opportunities to socialise. Outside there are beautiful landscaped gardens with flat paths and a large fish pond for residents to enjoy. The residents take an active role in running the home, helping to create the menu's, activities and social programme. Hill Brow is a happy home, where the resident's happiness and welfare comes first.

This residential home is amazing. The facilities are first class. Rooms that I have seen are very neat and tidy, my relation has a patio door out into a garden area. The grounds are very well maintained with lovely walking areas for the residents to stroll around. The food is very good quality. The
home's biggest asset is the staff. They are always smiling, no request is too much trouble and they genuinely seem to enjoy what they do which means the place has a very positive atmosphere. Keep doing what you are doing as it’s working very well!

Excellent care home who are taking the greatest care of my grandad. The facilities are excellent, the staff are experienced and caring and go above and beyond daily. The daily activities are well thought out and the fact my grandad has joined in on some is a miracle itself.

My mother has had Alzheimer's disease for 5 years and I thought it would be such a hard process to find somewhere for my mother to stay. I made a phone call to Hill Brow, and I can honestly say that was the best phone call I ever made. I explained my situation, would they have any space? Within a few
days someone contacted me regarding an assessment date. My mum was assessed at home and passed the test to stay at Hill Brow.
The day came to drop my mum off and I thought what is she going to think about the situation, but my mum settled in as soon as she got through the front door. My mum was chatting with residents before I even left the building. This was a great feeling for me, to also know my mother was going to be very safe. The staff at Hill Brow are absolutely amazing and make everyone feel special and very welcome. This is what we need more of in life. If you are reading this review and you are thinking of sending one of your family members I can honestly say they are 100%.

I usually pop in to see my father-in-law a couple of times a week and I always find the staff very pleasant and welcoming. The carers are patient and keep their sense of humour, some of them even putting music on the virtual assistant when they are getting him dressed in the morning. Nothing ever seems
to be too much trouble for them. My father-in-law is very happy and says the care couldn’t be better.

I spent a long time visiting several care homes before choosing Hill Brow for my mother and I am confident that it was the best care home I could have chosen for her. The staff were very welcoming and I was impressed that they knew the residents so well. This is partly due to all the staff being permanent
so the care for the residents is consistent and personal. I also was pleased that Hill Brow is family run and my mother often tells me when the owner has been in with her dog and has had a chat with her. The residents are never treated as a number because Hill Brow is small enough for everyone to know each other both staff and residents.


There are many activities arranged and some outings planned on a weekly basis. The food is very good and the chef makes a special effort to get to know the residents and will make an alternative if needs be. The open plan dining room with conservatory and lounge makes it a bright home with big windows looking onto the beautiful garden with a pond.

My aunt became a permanent resident of Hill Brow in October 2022. Following a couple of falls and time spent in hospital, she went to stay at Hill Brow in September for a period of respite care where it soon became apparent that it was the right place for her. Being a very private person, it took her
a little while to settle, but she now feels very much part of the Hill Brow family. Through choice, she doesn’t join in with many of the numerous activities on offer, but she knows that if she wants to do so she would be made to feel most welcome. She delights in having her hair done every week, the pamper sessions and physiotherapy that she gets. She is very complimentary about the care and attention she receives and speaks very fondly of the staff. As a family, we have been delighted with the improvements in her health and mobility that we have seen since her arrival at Hill Brow. We know that she is in safe hands, being well looked after and cared for.

The care staff at Hill Brow are absolutely fantastic and take excellent care of the residents. They are wonderful caring people who take a genuine interest in the residents' well-being. They have a really good schedule of activities to keep everyone active and entertained. However, despite continual
feedback, the food continues to be below par. This is unfortunate as I would give them 5 stars if the food could be improved.

I have been personally so pleased and relieved that mum has been lucky enough to find a place at Hillbrow. Refusing help in the home but wandering and causing chaos in the local community, led to an urgent need for mum to be cared for, Hillbrow were immediately understanding and she was offered various
choices and came very quickly and supportively to our rescue. The staff are always caring, kind, welcoming and very professional in their approach and make the environment home from home with excellent food and personal care.


Mum was offered lots of choices and now mum has been there since April and I have no qualms about her comfort or the activities they provide including trips out and a well-maintained home area, bedrooms, showering and bathroom facilities and regular staff including a small safe garden.
I would recommend Hillbrow to anyone looking for care.

Friendly welcoming staff who did everything to help my mum settle in and cater to her dietary needs. They always made the time to stop and chat with us when we visited. Thanks to their care, my mum is now back to living independently. We are so grateful for everything they did.

Our dad has been at Hill Brow just over 2 months now and we are amazed at how well he has settled in there. The Hill Brow team are fantastic, looking after his every need. They are so friendly and caring and there is obviously great team spirit amongst the team - it's like one big happy family. He has
a lovely room, the gardens are beautifully maintained and the food is freshly prepared every day. Dad loves it there and it gives us great peace of mind knowing he is so well looked after.

My mother-in-law became a resident in October after having a fall at home, after leaving hospital she went to stay in Hill Brow for respite care but after a few weeks we could see it was the right place for her to be full time and now call home. All the staff are truly amazing and caring, in a short
space of time we have seen such a difference in Mother-in-law she has settled so well in this supportive and caring environment.
There's always plenty of activities for the residents to get involved in if they so wish, various outings and visits from entertainers. from my point of view I can not thank the whole team enough for all they do from her medication needs to painting her nails you are all superstars!

My mother was a resident at Hillbrow for ten years, from 2012 to her death in October 2022. During this time she sadly became bedridden but was allowed to stay in the loving and caring environment where she felt very safe and secure.
Hillbrow is a wonderful home with a team of absolutely fabulous staff,
very professional, and they always treated mum with dignity, respect and compassion as well as love and laughter. I cannot thank them enough for looking after mum in such a caring environment.

My mother has recently passed away at Hill Brow having been a resident since March of this year. I cannot speak highly enough of the compassion and care that she received from the whole staff team. The atmosphere is always so positive and in the range of activities on offer there is surely something
for everyone who wishes to partake. Mum particularly appreciated the garden area, which is kept immaculate and she enjoyed a stroll around it and sitting out in the sun during the summer.
All staff treated her with dignity and respect throughout her stay but we are particularly grateful for their care during the last few weeks of her life when she needed nursing care. Their ability and willingness to provide this meant that she was able to remain in a familiar environment to the end. Their communication with me was excellent throughout her stay - I really felt that we were partners in her care. I would highly recommend Hill Brow and think they deserve their Outstanding CQC rating.

My mother has been a resident at Hill Brow since February 2022. From my very first visit to the home I have found all of the staff very friendly, approachable, helpful, welcoming and nothing is ever too much trouble. My mother has settled in very well and has made new friends. Every week there is a
range of themed activities which the residents can participate in if they so wish. Mum has especially enjoyed the fortnightly entertainers that have been invited into the home to sing and has also been on a number of outings which have included visit to garden centre, local pub, canal boat trip, seaside and more recently Windsor.
Hill Brow has a very well tended garden which my mother enjoys a regular walk around. During the summer we enjoyed tea and biscuits served to us there by the staff, which was lovely. There was also a summer barbecue held for residents and their families.
Hill Brow is spotless and well managed and it has given me peace of mind that Mum is in the best hands.

I am Alison and the proud Proprietor of Woodlands & Hill Brow Ltd. I am a nurse holding a Degree in Nursing with a Diploma in Elderly Care. I left the NHS where I was Ward Manager of an elderly care unit at The Royal Free Hospital, to assumed control of Woodlands & Hill Brow following my mother's retirement in 1998. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved in our homes, providing the highest standards of care which are built on an ethos of family-centred care. I am also a teacher and assessor ensuring I can support our staff through their development and training.

One of the best parts of my job is preparing meals for the residents at Hill Brow. I make sure to have individual conversations with each resident to learn about their favourite foods and preferred drinks. It's important to me that they are happy, so I strive to provide them with wholesome, delicious, and nutritious meals that they truly enjoy.

Job Title: Activities Coordinator Joined: 2012

I love my job as an activities coordinator. The most important part of my day to me is spending quality time with the residents whether in a group activity or chatting on a one to one basis. I particularly enjoy the art and craft activities. When I first started the Wednesday afternoon Art Club I could only persuade a few of the residents to join in, now I have residents and their family join in!


A regular Friday afternoon activity which I introduced soon after I started in this role is Word Association. I always get full attendance for this as the associations can be very unpredictable and humorous.


Story writing is another popular activity. I usually try to tie the theme into a current event or choose a popular childhood memory to develop into a story, however by far the most popular theme is a murder mystery. All of the residents have an opportunity to add a suggestion which is included in the story. The stories are a great way to bring out their sense of humour and it never fails to surprise me how inventive they can be.


I have also introduced food and cooking activities where I have helped the residents pipe onto cakes and biscuits with chocolate or icing and they get to eat their own creations! I use my love of art, cake decorating and watercolour painting to develop new projects and my latest creation is a giant bingo game which can also be used for quiz questions. We always look forward to our weekly outings and also the musicians that come to perform.


It’s a real privilege to be able to spend so much time with our residents. I feel very much appreciated by our residents and enjoy being part of the team at Hill Brow.

My name is Doug, I am the facilities manager for the Woodlands and Hill Brow Group. I am a qualified electrician and have been in the building industry for nearly 40 years. I was introduced to the team at Woodlands and Hill Brow Ltd when I was involved in the building of Hill House nursing home and then when I designed the electrical systems at Farnham Mill. I take pride in my maintenance team and in providing a safe, well maintained, attractive place for the residents and staff alike to live and work.
