Langtree Care Home

from Sophie M (Daughter of Resident) published on 21 August 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Both parents have been at Langtree for a month now and it is the best decision we could have made. The home itself feels more like a hotel than a care home - no beige rooms filled with people asleep in recliners. Their individual bedrooms are spacious and well decorated. The food is plentiful and healthy,
all made on site by a great chef. But what really makes it is the staff. They are incredibly hardworking, caring and bright.

We've had a couple of teething problems, which is natural since the home opened very recently, but they have been sorted out and I can sleep easy knowing my parents are cared for so well.

Lakeside Nursing & Residential Home

from Jackie E (Daughter of Resident) published on 27 June 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I literally cannot praise Lakeside enough. My dad has been a resident for 2.5 years and my mum was also there until December 2022 when she sadly died.
They helped my dad's transition as a widower and treated him with love, care and compassion. It was a difficult time and for myself, my brothers
and the rest of our family, knowing my dad was so well cared for meant everything to us.
As a whole I cannot praise the management, nursing, catering, carers, office and laundry staff enough. Nothing is too much trouble. I would also like to recognise the efforts as Activities Coordinator, she works so hard to find ways to encourage my dad to join in activities and events.
Thank you Lakeside for looking after my dad like he's your dad.

Reply from Gail Howard, Manager at Lakeside Nursing & Residential Home

Thank you for your praise with regards to our whole team, and understanding that it is always a team effort to provide care for your Dad. He is a true gent and a pleasure to care for.

Norley Hall Care Home

from C D (Husband of Resident) published on 22 May 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Norley Hall care home came to the rescue after a disasterous brief stay at another care home, which had been organised by NHS at Wigan Infirmary. It was like coming out of darkness and despair into a world of sunshine.
My wife had one to one respite care. The support and treatment by a dedicated management
and caring staff was exceptional. It has certainly changed my opinion of what living in a care home could be like. The management came out immediately to do the transfer between homes and was waiting to welcome us to Norley Hall when we arrived in the evening. I was always made welcome to visit and stay at any time. Everyone was so kind, considerate and helpful. It was a very happy experience in a difficult situation.
I have read and agree with all the recent positive review for Norley Hall. They are an accurate reflection of my experience.

Reply from Kathryn Rimmer, Registered Manager at Norley Hall Care Home

Thank you so much for your kind and heartfelt words. We were truly sorry to learn of your wife's initial experience, and we are honoured that Norley Hall was able to offer the care, comfort, and reassurance that you both needed at such a difficult time. It was our privilege to welcome you, and we're deeply touched to know that you felt the warmth and dedication of our team from the moment you arrived.Providing compassionate, person-centred care is at the heart of everything we do, and your comments are a great encouragement to our staff, who always strive to go the extra mile. We are especially pleased to know that your wife's one-to-one respite care made such a positive difference, and that you always felt welcomed and supported during your visits.Your words will be shared with the whole team-they will be as proud as I am to know that their work has made such a meaningful impact.

From the very first point of contact with Lakeside care home I have been treated, by all, with kindness, humanity and understanding. I have been welcomed and valued as a person, whilst my physical needs have been taken care of in a professional, supportive and homely manner. Staff provide a friendly,
family feeling of care - nothing is too much trouble, day or night. They are kindness itself. I want for nothing. I immediately felt safe. I am comfortable, content and confident. I feel in safe hands.

My mum was 90 today. She has only resided in Lakeside for a week but, in that short time, staff have ensured that they have got to know her. Today, myself and a few relatives came to celebrate her birthday. The staff had made a delicious birthday cake and provided a nice buffet, which was much appreciated.
We never thought my mum would end up in a care home but I know she will be well cared for and looked after in a loving environment.

Almost 99, having lived independently, Mum decided she needed 24 hour care.
It was with some trepidation that I visited Lakeside, but I need not have been anxious as we were instantly welcomed into lovely surroundings and a vibrant atmosphere, by friendly, polite and happy staff.
We felt immediately
at ease and reassured in such a pleasant, clean and family environment. One week later Mum took up residence and has never looked back. She is thriving in the care and love that she is receiving. She is treated with dignity, respect and professionalism at all times whilst enjoying the social conversations and friendships. The very genuine positive staff /resident and staff/staff relationships are clear for all to see.
Mum , and her family, have been welcomed and embraced into the family at Lakeside. All staff are approachable. Mum feels in safe hands , giving her the confidence to join in amazing outings, which we never expected.
Mum is happy. We have peace of mind. Priceless!

When mom was admitted to Norley following a fall causing a broken hip, she was welcomed far more than her previous home. She was happier and looked after with dignity and care. Her food Was well cooked and presented and the entertainment was fabulous. All special days and occasions were celebrated.
When Mum passed I became a volunteer to pay back the love and respect given to her.

My Mum has been a resident at Norley Hall Care Home since June 2024, and from the very beginning, she was welcomed into a caring and supportive community. The level of one-to-one care and attention she has received is truly second to none.
There is always a variety of entertainment and social activities
on offer, keeping her engaged and mentally stimulated. This has made such a difference to her overall well-being. The quality of food is also excellent, with a varied menu that has undoubtedly contributed to her improvement.
The staff are always happy, friendly, and incredibly helpful - nothing is ever too much trouble. In fact, my mum has often said she wishes she had moved here years ago, as she wouldn't choose to live anywhere else.
I am eternally grateful to all the staff for the kindness, and support they continue to provide. Their dedication brings immense peace of mind, knowing my Mum is in the best possible hands.

Norley Hall Care Home

from Melissa S (Daughter of Resident) published on 25 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

My mother is happy and settled in the Care Home.
She is safe and her care needs are met.
The staff are welcoming to myself and my Husband and they seem to genuinely care about the residents in their charge.
The activity schedule is robust and there always seem to be something going on to keep the
residents stimulated.
We are thankful for the care provided and the Norley Hall team.
Our criticism would be the price point of the 'top up' fees. It hangs over our heads like a big black cloud, knowing it is subject to review and yearly rises. This has a great impact on us as we have 2 parents residing there.

Reply from Kathryn Rimmer, Registered Manager at Norley Hall Care Home

Thank you so much for your kind words and for recognising the dedication of our team. It's truly heart-warming to hear that your mother is happy, settled, and receiving the care and support she deserves. Ensuring our residents are engaged and stimulated through our robust activity schedule is something we take great pride in. We understand your concerns regarding the third-party top-up fees. As a predominantly private care home, we strive to maintain the highest standards of care, ensuring our residents enjoy a comfortable, safe, and enriching environment. Unfortunately, due to the current challenges in social care funding, there remains a significant shortfall in the contributions we receive. The top-up fees help us bridge this gap, allowing us to retain our dedicated, experienced staff and continue offering the quality of care that our residents and families expect and deserve. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you'd like to discuss this matter in more detail. Thank you.

Our friend, a window and an only child with no children or siblings, sadly developed Alzheimer's disease. She asked me to be her support and power of attorney along with her cousin and her son who live in Durham. She was asked but didn't wish to move to Durham. I was asked to choose a home in Wigan.
Worthington Lake was my choice and the family agreed. She had lived there nearly four years. The management were amazing and she had the best life possible with her new 'family'. A beautiful and amazing home.
