My sister-in-law moved into Sycamore Care Centre 9 months ago. On arrival, she received a warm welcome from the staff. They helped her feel at ease in her new surroudings and she soon settled in.
We visit regualrly which is always a pleasure as the entire staff are so friendly.
The home is kept clean
and tidy throughout. The residents always look smart, comfortable and content. At mealtimes, they are offered a varied menu. The activities coordinator encourages residents to take part in quizzes and helps them with crosswords and puzzles. She asks for song requests so they can all sing-along. A local choir often visit at times of celebration for all to enjoy. The staff are wonderful and genuinely care for all of the resients attending to their needs with patience and good humour. Nothing is too much trouble. Any health issues or concerns are always addressed promptly, and we are kept well informed.
As a family, we could highly recommend this truly excellent care home!

My relative has been here a few weeks now and the care and attention she has received is absolutely incredible they let you know what is going on how she is doing . The staff are absolutely wonderful from nurses carers and the cleaners I've never been so happy to see a home so well run I'm very happy

Making the decision to place dad into care was the hardest decision we have ever had to make as a family. From the very beginning, Joanne and all the wonderful staff in the Cottage, along with Nicola and the amazing team on the Hawthorne Unit, made that difficult transition so much more bearable through
their kindness, understanding, and compassion. We can't thank the staff enough for the outstanding care, patience, and dignity shown to our dad. Knowing he is in such safe and caring hands has given us real peace of mind. We are truly grateful for everything you do and would wholeheartedly recommend the Hawthorne Unit to other families facing the same difficult decision.

We want to thank you all for looking after my Dad for just over a year and for the endless cups of tea he was provided with ! Even when he said he didn't get any, we know he could be difficult sometimes, but we miss him so much, even though it has only been a couple of days I miss coming in to see you
all and make coffee/ tea and miss my Dads complaning, but that was his way and I loved him, so thanks again for everything x

Putting your loved one into care is the hardest decision a family has to make. Trusting someone to look after a family member as well as you would is not easy, visit the facility, talk to staff, feel confident.
My mother needed someone to look after her after her last home refused to have her back
after a serious medical condition and long hospital visit. Sycamore talked to us, explained what care was needed, that they were willing to take on the care and would look after her to the best of ability.
What a job they did
She was nursed from bedridden to full mobility
She was stimulated with different media to keep her engaged
Her room was light and airy with private facilities
All areas were always clean and tidy
Food was always varied
Staff were polite/courteous and always caring
Senior staff were knowledgeable and always approachable
Ward managers had time to speak about any care issues
When it is time for loved ones to pass, to have staff at bedside shows their dedication

I'm happy with the care my sister is receiving it's not an easy job but she seems happy enough.The staff are very helpful and nothing is a problem to them I would recommend Sycamore to everyone who is looking for a place for a loved one .

All members of staff go out of their way to answer queries. Responses are prompt and supportive grounded in a good understanding of how the care sector works. We really feel staff (includes cleaners, laundry staff, kitchen staff and the activity co-ordinator) are invested in giving our Dad the best
possible care. They delight in what makes him happy and know how to interact positively with him. He feels safe and secure at Sycamore Boldon and was desperate to get home after a stay in hospital. Staff visited him in hospital, sent their well wishes and were a welcome committee on his return - he was thrilled. There was much support to help get him back home and my sister and I were very grateful for this.

The care and support have been outstanding, from the moment my dad arrived at Thornbury around 18 months ago.


Every member of staff is consistently kind, caring and incredibly helpful, not only to my dad but to us as a family. He has settled far better than we could have hoped and is treated with

dignity and respect at all times. Communication is excellent, and visiting always feels easy and welcoming.


The home is extremely clean and very well maintained. We visited five care homes locally before choosing Thornbury, and it stood out immediately as by far the nicest, both in terms of facilities and atmosphere. The communal areas are excellent and, while my dad doesn't personally take part, there is a wide range of activities offered.


We feel very fortunate to have found Thornbury and have complete peace of mind knowing my dad is in such a caring, professional and well-run home. I would wholeheartedly recommend

Sycamore has been looking after my dad for 6 months so far and the care he has is outstanding. The entire team are outstanding. Laundry and cleaning team keep clothes and rooms (shared and individual) in a1 condition all with a friendly smile. Cooks do wonderful home cooked food and also take into account
any dietary preferences. Activities are well thought out and inclusive to all. Care staff on all levels are caring, attentive, genuine and deliver the most outstanding care at all times. I can't express the gratitude and reassurance that my dad is well looked after and genuinely highly thought of. All staff give time and all with a smile it's a wonderful family feel.

My beautiful Mam has been a resident for over a year now. As her health and needs over this period have changed, they've all been addressed in a superior manner that I've learnt comes as standard.
The staff live the job! Not the other way around. This goes to say for care staff, seniors, management
and housekeeping. Their compassion, friendliness, commitment and professionalism shown to my Mam and myself has helped to alleviate a lot of the pain and stress when placed in the incomparable position of choosing a care home for your loved one.
Whilst no establishment anywhere is perfect, changes are always implemented where required, they involve family members and listen to suggestions, it's not a one size fits all, everyone is treat as an individual!
Top and bottom, it's a happy, friendly place, even in the most difficult and challenging circumstances. It's the place I'm glad I found.

All the staff at this care home are brilliant and caring , my mam has been in there for 6 years this year and is well looked after 24/7 . Best thing we ever did is put her into this care home , all The staff are so friendly and try and make mam laugh all the time . Thankyou to them all

Since my mother began her stay at thornbury care centre in December 2025 I feel all of my mother's care needs have been met physically and mentally. The staff have been professional. The staff have made my mother feel warm and welcome. The staff have also made myself and other members of the family
understand the plan throughout my mother's future care.. my mother is happy with all the staff and at the care centre and the warmth they show towards her on a daily basis.

From the onset of an emergency placement for my Mam , the staff were absolutely amazing in how they welcomed her & us as a family in such traumatic circumstances.

There aren't enough words to express how positive we feel about the whole experience particularly in times of stress.
My mam was always reluctant to consider being cared for in a residential setting , however she soon felt that this was her home & being afforded the best care from every member of staff . The staff have gone over & beyond in supporting & caring for us all , especially during palliative and end of life care for my Mam. The kindness , compassion, consideration, professionalism and friendliness of the staff have continually reassured us as a family that my Mam was happy and content. I wouldn't hesitate at all to highly recommend the care home to others .

My mam has been in Sycamore Care Centre Boldon for 6 months, my reason for waiting to write a review is I wanted to wait, see how she settled before I gave an honest review of her care.
Firstly staff : Every member of staff, nurses, carers, domestics, kitchen, activity coordinator and not forgetting
management as it all starts from the top! Makes this place shine, always a smile on their faces and nothing seems too much trouble even though we know how hard they work they always seem to go above and beyond for my mam and I cannot fault her care.
Food : My mam always enjoys all her meals, she has also gained weight which is brilliant as it shows she is getting all the nutrition she needs.
Cleanliness : Sycamore is always spotless! smells clean and fresh, my mams room along with all the other areas is cleaned daily and is comfortably furnished, bright and homely looking.
Finally : As a family we are thankful for the brilliant care my mam receives, our mam is safe, well cared for and happy

I would like to thank you on behalf of the family of my late mother who died peacefully in your care.
The care and professionalism shown to mam and to us at this difficult time was excellent.
After mams passing we received a call from the home asking after our welfare and we received a beautiful
bouquet of flowers.

I would like to thank you on behalf of myself and my brother. I have already submitted a review earlier in the year but wanted to thank you for your support after our mum passed. I had a call asking how we were coping and a lovely gift of flowers plus staff representing the care home attended her funeral.
At a time of great sorrow you helped alleviate some of the grief with your thoughtfulness. The kindness and support you show the residents and relatives is something very special.
