My mam has been in Beddell house for nearly four years . Throughout this time the care staff , domestic staff and catering staff have been exceptional in their care and kindness towards her . The rooms are spacious and kept very clean . There is a good choice of food for every meal and residents have
a choice of eating in the dining room or eating in their own room. There is excellent communication between the staff and family members .

After over 60 years living in her own home due to frailty and for her own safety it became necessary for mum to require nursing home care
This was an extremely difficult decision for us all as a family
However we found Beddell House who made this whole experience so much easier

speed to get mum moved was incredible, mums welcome to her new home by all the staff was done with such warmth and sensitivity
The care has been excellent, staff are extremely attentive towards mum's needs, we are kept well informed about her wellbeing and the relief this has given her family who are not local is immense
Allowing mum to have her personal possessions in her room and visitors as she pleases helps compensate for the obvious sadness she experienced leaving her own home
We are thrilled to hear how well mum is adjusting to her new surroundings, mixing with the other residents and even participating in the daily fun activities

My sister has been a happy resident of Beddell House for several years and as her capacities have declined her care and support has increased. All staff are terrific and have created a kind and loving home for my sister, now approaching100 years. She is so well looked after and clearly enjoys a comfortable
and easy life supported by attentive and professional staff. The people at Beddell make it special, but so are the excellent facilities both within and outside; wonderful grounds for the residents to enjoy. Quite simply, Beddell House is a rather special place.

Mum has been at Beddell House for a year now. The home is friendly, well run and has some lovely caring staff. It is spotlessly clean.
Mum enjoys the meals which are varied, tasty and with good choice for residents.
The activity programme has improved significantly recently and is organised by Cathy

My mother has been a resident here for over a year. Since day one she has been really settled and happy. She tells everyone how kind and caring all members of staff are. She enjoys going to the arranged activities. She enjoys the food

We really appreciate the high quality of care mum receives, all the staff I've encountered are so caring and respectful. The home is absolutely gorgeous with stunning grounds. Thanks to you all it means a lot to know mum is well looked after.

I just have to say how amazing the staff are always kind smiling and caring I can't fault this care home Wendy the receptionist is always helpful and very kind and caring to all the residents my mum is so happy and feels loved by all the staff the food is great she eats it all

Running a care home is incredibly hard and no care home is perfect.
But if I had to recommend a care home in Durham to anyone it would undoubtedly be this one.

for more but this is the reality of most care homes - and I would say Sherburn House is pretty good.
It truly is the staff that make the difference- and they do here. Thank you for everything you do - it's seen and very much appreciated.

Failure of management to follow correct procedures regarding assessment of care. Using social workers to get rid of residents. Saying to social workers they have been helpful & kept the family informed when they have not. Ignoring family who holds power of attorney (care) & consequently illegally applying
procedures eg DOLS & sedation medication (not approved by POA) without POA knowledge to make it easier for the carers, instead of actually using care? Manager always on holiday. Never available to discuss. Works from home. Instead of the manager investigating situations herself, she takes the word of the staff. An incident in the home regarding over medication & adverse reaction was never documented, instead given sedation not approved by POA to counteract. Not sure why open as a care home, only limited amount of care prepared to be provided. They could however provide more care and do so to certain residents. Movement of resident out of home, only in the best interest of home & charity, not resident.

We understand your frustration at having to leave our wonderful care home, but our registration only covers residential care, not nursing or EMI. We refute these allegations in the strongest terms and note that you only raised them after leaving our service. Don't be a keyboard warrior, accept our invitation to meet to discuss your concerns in person so we may at least have the right to reply.

Beddell House is a lovely place. The home itself is comfortable and spacious and it is particularly nice that Mum has her own sitting room. The grounds are huge and well-kept. But the main thing of course is the staff who are so kind and caring. Mum has been there a while now and they have managed her

We are so happy with the care my mam is receiving at Beddell House at Sherburn Hospital. She is treated with the utmost care and patience and seems to have settled in really well. The home itself is beautiful, spotlessly clean and modern in stunning surroundings.

Mum went originally for respite then decided to stay. She’s been at Beddell House at Sherburn Hospital now for over twelve months. The staff are friendly and the residents seem well looked after. Food is good and best of all, Mum is very happy. They have an entertainment manager who organises events,
visits from performers, activities, so much going on.

Care of my mother is outstanding, staff are truly caring, take time to listen to my mother and make everyone who visits her welcome. They listen to family queries and suggestions and act upon them, treat my mother with dignity and as an individual, encouraging her to talk about her life and join in
activities. Having cared for my mother for a number of years I am confident in the care she receives from staff at Beddell House which is a great relief to know she is well cared for and safe, in excellent accommodation.

Staff from the manager through to the carers lack experience, skills and training.
Even if staff were well trained and experienced, there aren't enough staff on duty to provide good quality care over 3 separate floors in such a large building.

My father came home with 2 significant wounds which we knew nothing about. One was a huge abscess on his chest that according to his care notes which I obtained via a SAR had been present for almost 3 months but had never been treated.
Food is average at best.
The best things about Bedell House are the rooms (with separate bedroom and living area and en suite toilet and shower), the outlook from the public rooms and the woodland walk that's accessible with a wheelchair/mobility scooter.

Our care staff are highly trained caring individuals who work hard to give the residents a high quality of life, therefore it is sad to receive such a negative public review, especially when we have informal and formal policies and procedures in place for families or residents to discuss their concerns at the time they occur.

I have just enjoyed 8 days in Beddell House after having a Total Knee Replacement.
I was treated with the utmost care and nothing too much trouble. I observed that all residents received the same treatment by Staff and nothing was too much trouble to them. They went about their jobs with a smile
on their face. It was lovely to see how they persuaded residents to partake in activities and to eat as much of the meals as they could manage. It was marvellous to watch how a resident would say ‘I cannot eat today’ but staff would persuade them they needed to eat (no bullying just patience) and before too long food would be eaten.
Thank you all staff for a most enjoyable stay.

Beddell House is a beautiful house, set in a quiet and rural location. It is spacious and airy and well-maintained. Residents have both a living room and a bedroom, as well as a bathroom, all of which are of a generous size. The staff are very kind, helpful and friendly. There is an atmosphere of warmth
