Deanston Care Home

from Liz W (Daughter of Resident) published on 3 October 2025

Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
Our mum was a resident for 3 years in Deanston care home. As mum entered the end stages of her journey with Alzheimer's disease, we received a call to say mum had taken ill, paramedics on site, then mum received the last rights as we thought she would pass away that day, mum lasted 10 nights/11 days.

Myself, sister, brother and other members of our family took turns at staying overnight and the care extended to us was so thoughtful and really made a difference.
For us we knew this would be where our mum would pass away, mums wishes and every aspect of those final days and moments were managed so carefully and respectfully. Everything was peaceful and we got to spend as much time together as we needed.
Every single member of staff, could not have been more kind, caring, compassionate and inclusive. I cannot thank or praise every member of this incredible team enough.
Except the MANAGER who never communicated with us before, during or after mums passing. Formal complaint upheld.

My Mum spent the last months of her life in this home. I have been so grateful for the treatment she was given. Staff are excellent. They create a family atmosphere and go beyond to ensure the happiness of residents. My Mum was safe and well looked after. The emotional reaction of staff members when
she passed was incredibly touching. We were supported too especially in the last few days of Mum's life. Nursing home fees are expensive but, in our case, worth every penny paid.

Deanston is very homely and offers a comfortable standard of living for the residents. Mum has been given excellent care throughout a very difficult time. I have been kept informed at all stages. I feel the staff could be given more support and more of them as I have witnessed the challenges they face
on a daily basis.

I feel like a member of the care home as we have used Whitehills for my father in law, mum and now dad. Some of the staff have looked after all three parents so I feel that must be happy there too. Even meeting staff outwith the care home they are very friendly. No mater what role the staff have they
always have time to speak with the residents and know about their likes and dislikes which is great

When my mum arrived in Netherton Court she was under 6 stone. She is 91 yrs old. She settled very quickly and has now put on a stone in weight from April 2024 to May 2025. She continually tells me how well carers and other staff are to her and how well looked after she is. The staff are friendly and
courteous and very helpful to both residents and their families. They supply my mum with protein drinks to keep her weight up which she never received anywhere else. Mum is very happy here.

I believe when paying for goods or services in Scotland, I'm entitled to withhold part payment to mark my dissatisfaction with the standard of service until it improves. I therefore informed WCH that on each visit, if something wasn't right, I would deduct £10 from my payments. (For example, dirty floors
or tables, or windows being left open on cold nights with no heating on.) At no time did WCH object to this, accepting that things could be better and the new manageress has been trying to improve the situation. Unfortunately, some staff are letting her down.

It's now been intimated that unless I restore these amounts, the Office Of Public Guardianship will be approached with a view to revoking my Power Of Attorney as my mother would supposedly be 'at risk' if I do not pay up. So I'm being told I can't withhold part payments to stimulate improvement, under threat of all my mother's funds being appropriated by either WCH/Social Work Dept. Blackmail pure and simple.

My dad came into Netherton care home in November 2024 following a stay in hospital after breaking hip + partial replacement. He has Alzheimer's + vascular dementia. He very quickly settled into life in this home much easier than we ever expect. This we believe is 100% due to the amazing staff who go

Selecting a care home for my brother was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. From the very start the manager and the entire team at Lochside Manor showed empathy, care and compassion with, genuinely,my brothers best interest at the very heart of their thinking. This has continued throughout.
He feels safe and secure and happy that his wishes are respected. I have found the management team extremely excellent and always on hand to discuss any issues which may arise from time to time and continue to proactively support my brother's transition to a care home setting encouraging positive social interaction through the varied group activities, 1-1 care plan and family liaison. My thanks to the team for, in my experience, all their continued first class care. And lastly I would like to thank the admin staff who do a fantastic job as well, who is always on hand if you have any concerns about financial support.

Initial discussions and negotians were helpful and clear, and management staff co-operative. There always seemed to be an atmosphere of relative calm when we visited and that encouraged me. Many of such places have ups and downs. Greenhills seems 'up'. If I have any reservations it is this. My husband
was able to do morning and evening routines for himself but only because I had to steer him towards shower or correct order of dressing - and hearing aids. Inevitable if members of staff are responsible for than one patient, slip ups will occur eg loss of hearing aids or omitting items of dress. Overall, I am satisfied however.
