Review of Bannow Retirement Home from Kim D (Goddaughter of Resident) published on 5 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
Looking for respite for my godmother, who suffers from dementia, I found Bannow. From my initial telephone call, visit and a home visit to meet her I have been so impressed with the staff and how much they care about their residents.
The home has large communal areas and a fantastic garden. Residents are encouraged to take part in numerous activities - Wimbledon, World Cup football, a garden party and daily games. My godmother was only there for a week as initial respite and I was worried about how she would react. I needn't have worried, she loved being there, she loved all the staff, said the food was lovely and she enjoyed meeting the other residents.
The staff all treat the residents with exceptional care and the staff to resident ratio is great. The staff spend time with residents and activities are organised each day and all are encouraged to participate.

Bannow has been a great find, the staff are its greatest asset and my godmother is already booked in for her next stay.

When our mum first went to Bannow, we were a bit concerned that the lounge had a scruffy look. However, we soon realised that Dave and his staff genuinely seemed to care about their residents, which was much more important to us. This is still the case today, a year + later. The staff are lovely, caring & thoughtful. Abbey is doing a great job and has chose well with the events organiser who has already made such a difference. We're grateful to all the staff. They do need an additional downstairs toilet though!

Reply from Joanne James, Area Manager at Bannow Retirement Home

Many thanks for your lovely review. We are so happy your Mum has settled at Bannow. Abbie is doing a great job in her new management role. The addition of the new activity person has also added a positive input. We will continue with the good work to ensure your Mum and all the other residents experience good care.

It was very difficult for me when my wife moved into the care home and the staff were very helpful and supportive and have continued to be so.

The care given to my wife is excellent and she is very happy in the home and I am glad that I chose this home for her.

Grace and the team at Downlands took such good care of our mum in her final months battling cancer.
It's a scary decision picking a nursing home as naturally we wanted somewhere our mum would feel comfortable, safe and looked after. After visting several in the area, we just had such a good feeling from our first visit to Downlands and they absolutely didn't let us down. We're so pleased that we decided to go with them.

All of the staff care deeply and operate with utmost kindness and compassion.

Review of Bannow Retirement Home from Wendy B (Wife of Resident) published on 11 May 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My husband has resided at Bannow for the past 7 months.
As a family, one of the greatest comforts for us has been knowing that my husband is being well cared for at Bannow. The staff are consistently warm, kind and good-humoured, which makes such a difference to both residents and their families.
The building itself may be older, but it is always clean and feels homely. A place where the residents are looked after, not just housed. My husband's room is big and sunny with a sea view. No traffic noise, just the bird songs. There is also a large secure garden so the residents can sit outside on warm days.

For me personally, the reassurance of knowing my husband is safe, supported and treated with kindness and respect is invaluable. I visit regularly and I'm always kept up to date with how he's doing. Thank you to the whole team at Bannow.

My parent was a resident of the Downlands Care Home till they sadly passed away and they received excellent care throughout from the staff on a daily basis. I am so grateful to Grace and her team for the caring and compassionate care that they provided as my relative was comfortable and became part of the Downlands family.

I cannot speak too highly of the kindness and care my wife received during her stay of over two years at Downlands.
She was admitted with advanced dementia and had her every needs catered for by the dedicated and friendly staff at the Home.
She was always treated with dignity and respect in what were at times difficult and stressful circumstances.
I was always given a warm welcome by the Manager and Staff whenever I visited the Home, and I would like to express my grateful

thanks to all at Downlands for taking such good care of my wife throughout the final years of her long battle with dementia.

Review of Adelaide Nursing Home from Edith L (Friend of Resident) published on 28 January 2026 Submitted via Postal Card

My friend spent nearly 2 years in this home. The staff were always pleasant, available and approachable. When asked about her care my fiend always said she was well looked after and that the food was very good. However, her room was hardly big enough for someone needing full nursing care. It was very cramped. Would have been difficult to accommodate a hoist. The washroom was tatty. There was no shower. The net curtains were hanging up, torn.

Mum was discharged from hospital to Beaumont Nursing Home after having had a major stroke. Her room was warm and comfortable. The staff were kind, considerate and very caring. We were so relieved, knowing that mum was being well cared for, given that we'd not had any choice in where mum was placed. We're just glad it was Beamont! We can't thank the staff enough and would highly recommend the home.

My husband and I cannot praise Grace and the team enough whilst they cared for our Uncle who moved in to Downlands in October 2025. He has never looked more comfortable and well fed thanks to the care and attention the team gave him. He constantly had wonderful people looking out for him and caring for his day to day needs. Everyone of the team from Grace to the nurses, carers and chef were all amazing and what a wonderful job they do...thank you so much.

The nursing home was so welcoming in such a difficult time. They looked after my dad so well, always with a smile and care. They reassured me the whole way that my dad was engaging well with them, eating, drinking, and allowing care. I knew he was safe and well, even though he didn't fully understand why her was there. They put on daily activities, had dogs and kittens visit. Always tea and coffee available. We can't thank them enough.

From the moment I arrived to view this home for my late Dad, I knew it was right for him. The residents in the lounge were all friendly, engaging and seemed content and happy. This is really the best indication of a good care home.

All the staff that I engaged with were nothing but helpful, understanding and patient. Dad said on one occasion that he care couldn't be any better and that he had 'No complaints whatsoever'. Even though he could be difficult at times, which is understandable given the situation, the staff remained 100% professional and caring.

It was a long haul to get Dad transferred from Lytham St Anne's to Hove, a task that took a disproportionate amount of energy from myself and my Dad. When he did eventually arrive after an 11 hour ambulance transfer he was utterly exhausted and I didn't think he'd survive. But with the excellent care he received and with the love and support of myself and my sister, he rallied and his stay at Adelaide was perfect for us all.

My mum was in the nursing home for a year before she recently passed.
All of the staff at the home were very kind and caring and were always on hand if we needed anything.
I never liked leaving my mum after visiting but I could leave knowing that she was safe and being very well cared for. It was traumatic for my mum having to go into the home but the staff were kind and compassionate and treated her with dignity and respect. It is only because of the care and dedication of the nurses and carers that we had the last year with mum and for that I can't thank them enough.

If anyone has a loved one that is needing nursing care I would highly recommend Beaumont.
