Review of Bramley House from Sylvia G (Wife of Resident) published on 26 June 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My husband went into Bramley House when his increasing frailty and vascular dementia made it impossible to keep him safe at home. Before admission the Asistant manager did her utmost to assess his needs as well as my concerns for him. His heart failure and frailty made it impossibe to reach the garden from our first floor apartment and on the day he arrived, he was able to get out into the fresh air, touch the plants and listen to the birds. He tended to get depressed when not occupied with something he enjoyed and the activities manager went to great lengths to engage the residents. Sadly my husbands condition deteriorated suddenly but the end of life care was excellent and carried out with love & respect and the support given to me was wonderful.

Our Mum went for a rest bite and we were so impressed with the quality of care and the beautiful environment, we decided Mum would be happy to stay permanently. She has settled well and enjoys all that Bramley House offers.

The care staff and management are amazing people, who care so much about all the residents. We 3 daughters feel our Mum is in the best care Home and glad we made this choice.

Due to my Mum's advanced illness, her stay at Bramley house was a very short one. However, I would like to thank the staff for their help and support at such short notice. Particular thanks goes to the lady who saw us on Easter Saturday when my wife and I just turned up out of the blue asking if they could be of any help as my Mum's condition was worsening by the day. At that stage we literally didn't know which way to turn. Also a huge thank you for the help we got taking Mum from her house to the care home. Not only did this member of staff help with the move, but she comforted both my Mum and Dad at this difficult time (and me to be honest).

A thoroughly relaxing and caring experience with most likeable and helpful staff. Unfortunately the activity member of staff was away so the memory of activities is limited. The room used with a comfortable bed, chair, TV etc. was most pleasant. Would have preferred a female assistant when taking a shower.

My husband recieved excellent care at Bramley House I cannot fault it. He was well fed & given choices of tea, coffee, water or juice. He has severe dementia & has to be supported with all personal care & when moving. He was always clean & well shaven.

The only reason I have moved him is because the area/lounge was very crowded, there was nowhere to go privately with him, his room was small & he did not have his own shower.

Reply from Anna Dunford, Home Manager at Bramley House

My sister and I cared for our 90-year-old mum in her home for many years, but as her dementia progressed we sadly reached a point where it was no longer safe for her to live independently. We visited several care homes to find somewhere that would feel comfortable, supportive and able to meet both her current and future needs, and from our very first visit, Bramley House stood out.
Moving into care hasn't always been easy for Mum, which is completely understandable, but Anna, Dianne and the whole team have been incredibly kind, patient and reassuring throughout the transition, not just for Mum but for us as a family too. Their experience and genuine care really show.

Whenever I visit, the home feels warm and welcoming. The rooms and facilities are clean and well looked after, and it's lovely to see residents enjoying freshly prepared meals together. We're very grateful to all the staff for their ongoing support, communication and compassion. It gives us real peace of mind.

I have nothing but praise for Bramley House. The staff go out of their way to keep an elderly gentleman as happy and motivated as possible, and make family and friends more than welcome during visits. On the one hand there is care, patience and concern for the infirm; on the other, when appropriate, there's cheerful, no-nonsense cajoling and hilarity. Over Christmas and New Year, the party atmosphere deserves special mention with Chef Liam preparing excellent festive meals to family members for the price of a voluntary donation. Tricia the Activities Queen drove the festivities forward with irrepressible energy and enthusiasm, the senior management team labouring furiously to keep everything running smoothly backstage with their army of devoted carers. All this spearheaded by Anna the manager under whose leadership the staff rise to any occasion, devoting long hours of individually tailored care to their charges.

My Sister Hazel has been a resident at Bramley House for 5 years. The care given to her at Bramley is extremely good and the staff there are very polite and friendly. They encourage my sister to take part in various activities though as she suffers from dementia this at times can be difficult. Bramley House is well run and they have redecorated and modernized various parts recently. They have a nice Garden area for residents to relax in. My sisters room is very nice and we have added the odd personnel touch with various photos.

Anna the manageress is extremely helpful. We live some distance from Mere and we tend to arrive at lunchtime and the food the residents have always looks extremely appetizing and as my sister suffers from Coeliac Disease they cater very well for her condition. Its nice to know that she is being cared for well.

My Dad "pop" has been a resident at Bramley house for a while now and the care provided by Anna and everyone there has been absolutely fantastic. There are lots of activities that are varied and cater to all needs and families can be involved as well as being sent lots of pictures and updates.
Catering is brilliant and a cake was also made when Mum and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with residents and our family and friends.

Thanks to every one at Bramley House xxxx

I would like to do this review for Bramley House because they helped me and my family out in so many ways.
We had an emergency health problem with my father and needed help at very short notice. I phoned Bramley and with their help, my Dad went into their care. He has now been at the home for approximately 6 weeks and he is very happy.
All the carers there are just amazing. I had my first visit yesterday and the welcome I received was like meeting long lost friends. Everyone there were so professional, caring and thoughtful.

I don't think I have ever been in an atmosphere where everyone seemed so happy at doing their "job". What a wonderful team they are.

The care and attention to detail in this friendly home is inspiring. They take immense care in getting to know the resident and the family and offer tremendous support to both, with great communication at all times.

The staff are not only, always on hand but are highly skilled in all emergency treatment should it be needed. I can say this as I had first hand knowledge of an incident where my husband was saved by quick and expert treatment from staff members.

I have had some experience with visiting a variety of Residential Homes and I have no hestitaion in recommending Bramley House as a friendly, caring and very efficiently run home.

Bramley House is well-run and management and carers are all competent and friendly. The house is exceptionally clean and tidy. Review of Millbrook House Residential Care Home from S B (Daughter of Resident) published on 12 September 2025 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Millbrook House is a residential care home second to none. Having visited four or five care homes in the area with a view to my Mother going into respite care for a couple of weeks following a long stay in hospital, there is NO comparison to the very excellent care, attention and support demonstrated at Millbrook House.

Everyone is so attentive and has time to listen and make residents feel inclusive and welcomed, it's like a family, headed by a wonderful Manager and supportive team, who provide 5 ***** care day and night.

A monthly schedule is sent to relatives showcasing a wide variety of events run by enthusiastic staff, including excursions, stimulating cognitive activities and creative pursuits, to name but a few.

The residents' communal rooms such as the lobby, dining room, lounge and drawing room resemble a 5 ***** hotel and the grounds are palatial. The bedrooms are equally well-furnished, warm and comfortable.

The people and place make Millbrook House special.

Review of The Old Rectory from M A (Son of Resident) published on 6 August 2025 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

The family is fortunate to have discovered The Old Rectory for our elderly mother in the spring of this year. It is a homely care home, where the staff are unfailingly cheerful and helpful. The residents have the run of the whole care home, are encouraged to eat meals together and to take part in communal activities. These range from craft activities, through armchair yoga, to singing, visits from external animal lovers and even local school choirs. The ratio of carers to residents is excellent and mother is met with first class care, attention and kindness from all quarters. Management is equally caring, is on first name terms with all the residents and leads by example. Communications with the care home are timely and responsive, and there are no restrictions on when visits can take place. There is a delightful outside terrace leading into a mature walled garden, a safe space for all to enjoy when the weather permits.

Mum has been a resident at Millbrook House Residential Care Home for 5 years. Throughout her stay, the care she has received has always been excellent, the meals are prepared to suit her dietary requirements and her room is clean and well presented. The Manager and Head of Care are always available if I have any concerns and they have excellent links with the local GP. MBH run a full and varied activities program, and encourage residents to joint in. Whenever visiting, I am always greeted with a friendly face and a lovely smile, a quick update on what mum has done that day and how she is generally, I'm made to feel very welcome. Millbrook House is a beautiful house in a quiet village, the gardens are stunning and have views of Hambledon Hill.

My mother moved into Bramley House recently and we have been delighted with the high level of care which she has received. My mother-in-law has been resident at The Old Rectory for the past few months as she has dementia and we needed to keep her safe, which she wasn't any more in her own home.

We moved her from the other side of the country and she settled here far more quickly than expected and generally seems very content. What is particularly nice is that the staff also appear to be very fond of her. They are caring and, if they have any concerns, get in touch immediately with us. The Old Rectory is homely and welcoming and the food has proved a big hit too with my mother-in-law, a notoriously fussy eater. Overall we are very happy with the care she is receiving and are very grateful to the staff who look after her.
