I am very happy with the way my friend is being cared for both physically and mentally. My friend suffers from a state of high anxiety which they try to relieve, not always successfully sadly. He is being well looked after and is now better physically than he was when he was at home.

I cannot praise the staff of David's House enough.
The staff are caring, thoughtful and so importantly respectful to all the residents.
They understand the upset, stress and confusion their dementia residents can face, on a daily basis and show them kindness, patience and understanding.
David's House is managed and run extremely efficiently, all the staff work so very hard, and families of the residents are always kept up to date.
They work hard to organise many events for the residents and families together, and these are joyful occasions.
My Mother can very often be upset and distressed for a period of time, but I know with confidence, that her emotional needs are dealt with during these times with compassion, dignity and in a professional manner.

I would highly recommend David's House.

This is a lovely care home in central Harrow. The rooms are all furnished but residents can bring their own favourite items and make it their own. There is a tea room for entertaining guests and there is a pleasant garden for relaxing. But it is the staff that make this place really special. My mother was settled in and cared for with kindness and affection. The staff are very professional, but also friendly and reassuring. They will make time to talk to you about your loved one and discuss his or her individual needs. Our whole family enjoyed our visits to Davids House, and we felt confident that our mother was well cared for and in good hands. Celebrating our loved ones is important.

I particularly remember what fun the Christmas party was, Davids House was packed with families, old and young alike. And we all joined in with the singing and dancing. I am very grateful to the staff at Davids House for making my mothers time there so comfortable and safe.

My mother has been in David's House for four years. Her needs have changed during her time at the care home and she has always been well looked after. The staff turnover is low so the carers have got to know my mother. The staff are kind and treat the residents as individuals and meet their individual needs.

The care home also works closely with the families of the residents.

My Father was in distress when he went there but with their kindness and calm approach, he flourished.

I was amazed when visiting David's House. The level of care, consideration & dedication is above anything I would have ever imagined. Hearing the singing with the staff members and then the singing & exercise with the professional was outstanding. If I needed a dementia home this is where I would want to be.

Dear Jane

Thank you for sharing your wonderful review of Davids House with us. I always find that the staff are devoted to ensuring the home is just that, a home away from home. When I visit I always feel a warmth as is with a family unit and it is good to know that you have had a great experience as have I and that your aunt is enjoying living there.

My father came to David's House after a short stay in respite care in a different home. The staff in David's House are lovely. They are experienced in caring for dementia patients. It has a calm feel about the place. On entering it can feel a little enclosed but there are quite a few quiet places to sit with relatives. My father is still very mobile and when time permits the staff will go out for a short walk with him. He is beginning to settle into his new surroundings.

I am the advocate for an elderly gentleman at David's House. He is treated with respect and dignity at all times and the place has a very homely and friendly atmosphere. The staff shows extreme patience and understanding to him even though he gets quite demanding and and bad-tempered at times. The support and reassurance at all times, from Management, senior staff and carers are just superb, and it has helped my friend to settle down happily in David's house. He is now very friendly and helpful to the other residents. Yes I will recommend David's house to anyone who is looking for placement.

Mum was extremely well looked after. The carers always treat her with kindness and respect. The home is very clean and comfortable and a wide range of activities/entertainment are provided for those who can still enjoy it. The management and senior carers are very approachable should we have any concerns. I always feel confident that mum is in a safe and loving environment.

My father has been resident at David's House for a year now and I am so glad he is in such a happy and caring environment. He is treated with kindness by attentive and thoughtful staff and I can relax because I know his needs are being met. His quality of life is good - much better than when he lived on his own and he, and all the residents, are treated as individuals. David's House has a pretty garden which dad enjoys in warm weather, and a very homely, friendly appearance. David's House is very special, it feels like a family and I know they genuinely care for dad.

Review from Toni S (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 19 November 2015 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My in-laws have been residents @ David's House for 18 months after a move from another care home in the area. What a difference - it is staggering the difference in the quality of care. We are so relieved they are in good hands now. Many homes profess to be specialists in dementia, but this is not always reflected in their care standards and training. David's House truly are specialists in dementia - their agenda of activities is geared to stimulating residents - Music Therapy, Exercise & Movement and regular visits from Pet Therapy charities. Despite it being a big effort they also have great outings to museums, gardens and seaside and encourage family to attend as well. Plan regular outings they welcome volunteers and as well as some great excursions. Things on the Activity Calendar actually happen - it is not printed just for show!

By far the biggest difference for us as a family is how they encourage and welcome our involvement - the Manager has an open door policy, you are always made to feel welcome. In the perfect world nothing would go wrong, but that is not realistic - so having a Manager and staff that listen is very important. As a family we feel well supported by David's House, the reputation of the organisation MHA is also reassuring for us.

Placing loved ones care into the hands of others is very difficult and scary, I wish we had found David's House first time around. My advice would be to look beyond the local management of the home, check the reputation of the holding company, performance at other homes, how well supported are the carers, when did they last receive a pay increase, how regularly do they review the care fees. Finally, talk to other relatives.
