The care is absolutely phenomenal. Every time I go there it's clean it's brilliantly run and my mum is in great hands.
The food is delicious, the entertainment is great.
Thank you for your lovely comments Rachelle. Knowing that your mum feels safe, happy, and well cared for truly means everything to us. We're thrilled that you've noticed the effort our team puts into maintaining a clean home, providing delicious meals, and offering enjoyable entertainment. Your kind words are very much appreciated
There is always so much for the residents to join in with which is all organised by Graham who is amazing and also does lots of activities every day. He always manages to get an extremely good response from everyone and the lovely staff even got my mum up dancing. Entertainers also come in to Sydmar Lodge so there is no shortage of singers and dancers and musicians several days a week.
Sydmar Lodge and everyone working there are so kind and thoughtful and make it very easy for its residents and families or friends visiting.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. It was truly a pleasure to meet your mum and get to know you as a family. We deeply appreciate your trust and support, it means so much to us.
My mother who is 100 years old was a resident of Sydmar Lodge for a 5 week period recovering from a broken wrist. The care she received could not have been better. The carers were absolutely lovely and they made my mother feel special. Visiting was always easy and encouraged. The entertainment was non stop and kept all residents and guests involved. I would have no hesitation in reccomending Sydmar Lodge. Thank you again for everything you did for us and I know my mum enjoyed her time with you, in fact there were tears when she left.
Thank you, Melvyn, for your kind words. We truly appreciate them. Please give our best wishes to your mother and remind her that she is always welcome to visit us anytime, especially when we have entertainers here!
Sydmar go over and above to tend to everyone 's individual needs. I whole heartedly recommend Sydmar Lodge for your loved ones.
Always a happy place to visit, really caring staff. Informed, like a real home well done!
My mum has been extremely happy in Sydmar Lodge. She was always smiling and happy to join in with all the activities. I honestly don't think that I could have chosen better for her.
Thank you for your kind comments, which will be shared with the whole staffing team. Wishing you well.
My mother entered the care home in the last 12 months of her life. The staff were really caring towards her and as her life ended they could not be more caring and did not leave her side even staying to be with her when they should have gone home.
Thank you for your kind words. Your mother was a pleasure to know and care for.
My dearest mum was a resident at Sydmar Lodge for 30 months before her recent passing. During her time there, she experienced much care, empathy & understanding from staff who worked well together under the leadership of the first-rate manager. Mum's emotional, physical & mental health difficulties were considered at all times with staff going out of their way to ensure that her needs were met. She often commented on how tasty the food was & that there was always plenty to eat. The activities were varied & stimulating, with much music played & Jewish traditions enjoyed. She loved joining day trips when she could. Although medical staff are not present on site, staff were able to call them whenever needed; it was helpful that the GP who visited weekly knew her well. I feel that the staff cared for us as a family too. Mum told me not long ago that she was happy there & how lovely everyone is. Our experience is that it is a home away from home if such a level of care is required.
Thank you for your kind words, your mum will be remembered fondly. She was a pleasure to care for.
The entertainment was also exceptional. She was well cared for physically, emotionally and mentally. On a regular basis, music fills the rooms, stimulating quizzes are provided and residents have the opportunity to partake in hands on food preparation and crafting. There is also weekly bingo. Additionally, the home is clean, organized and professionally run.
I highly recommend Sydmar Lodge to residents and family members looking for a loving and professional care home that goes above and beyond, treating residents with dignity and aiming to ensure that they enjoy a high quality of life.
We really appreciate you taking the time to leave your review. It was a pleasure and a privilege caring for your grandmother, she truly was a remarkable lady, who will be remembered fondly. I will be sure to share this review with the team here.
The staff always made her very welcome and made every effort to integrate her into the community.
My mother has now been at Sydmar Lodge for 19 months and the quality of her everyday life has exceeded our expectations. The management team are very approachable and have been so constructive and helpful with guiding us to help mum be in a much better position (than she was at home) throughout her time at Sydmar. The staff are hard working, friendly and dedicated. They treat residents with kindness and respect and we are always greeted with a smile and support when we visit. The Head of Wellbeing is brilliant, providing a super activities program every week and there have been lovely trips to the seaside and outings out for afternoon tea, to name a couple. There is music and joy in the home which really make a positive difference. Mum is now eating great meals and is clean and tidy everyday. As a family we couldn't ask for more and we are very grateful to every member of the Sydmar team for giving mum the best care possible. Thank you.
My mother has been at Sydmar Lodge for almost 6 years, during this time she has been cared for by the most dedicated team of carers. I could not ask for any better care at Sydmar Lodge. They have many activities that all the residents take part in plus lots of entertainment.
The entertainment is absolutely fantastic here. There are regular visitors who come and play instruments, sing, or perform alongside the in house entertainment, which is amazing. It's a wonderful atmosphere and very well organised.
.
During musical afternoons, the staff put their heart and soul into all the dancing and singing to include all the residents and bring out the best in all of them.
It's always a pleasure to see that local schools visit and the community play an important role.
The range of activities are amazing. Ranging from bingo to baking afternoons. There is something to cater for everyone's needs.
There is excellent communication and I have great confidence in leaving my mum in Sydmar Lodge. Always a joy seeing all the activities on Facebook and receiving an email on all upcoming activities.
My mum is treated with dignity and staff are reassuring and supportive.
My mother has been at Sydmar Lodge since February 2023, and the quality of care she has received since then has been consistently excellent. The team at Sydmar are extraordinary - conscientious, personable, good-humoured and kind. I have noticed how staff work hard to build a rapport with residents. The Managers also deserve credit for ensuring that everything runs smoothly - they clearly take the welfare and wellbeing of their residents very seriously. They have always been very helpful when I have contacted them. Also worthy of praise is the Head of Wellbeing, who puts on a nicely varied programme of activities including musical entertainment, crafts, keep fit, quizzes, bingo and baking. He also organises outings, including cream tea at a hotel in Elstree and fish 'n' chips at Southend on Sea.
I am very happy with how my husband is being looked after and couldn't be anywhere nicer. Staff seem happy in their duties and are excellent with their care. The Registered Manager does an outstanding job.
Thank you for your kind words, Carmel, which will be shared with the care team.
This is a remarkable change from my mother's last few years living at home, where she had stopped leaving the house, and had become sullen, lonely and isolated. There is a family atmosphere at Sydmar, a culture generated by the cheerful and kind staff, led by first-rate management.
Thank you so much for your lovely words, which will be shared with the staff. It is so good to know we have made a difference, improving her well-being.
But after an initial reluctance, our mother now heartily enjoys the meals. The food and the service provided by Sydmar are exceptional. We have been impressed by how the team gently and kindly persuades Mum to eat, which is better than we could ever manage at home. The meals are nutritious and very tasty, and Mum now has a good balanced diet.
Thank you for your lovely comments, which will be shared with staff to increase morale.
The management can be a bit defensive and should take comments in a constructive manner that they are given. They should act a bit more professionally.
Overall it could be better, but certainly not bad. There are far worse homes.
We have made several improvements to the environment, including full redecoration to all corridors with a stylish wall paper, and replacing the handrails for a more modern wooden finish. All bedrooms...

Julia has worked in the care sector for over 30 years, and at Sydmar Lodge since 2016. Before this, she worked as a Regional Manager for a large corporate care organisation, covering 9 care homes and 13 day centres. She is passionate about resident care, and missed the direct contact with people and their families, which is why she returned to Home Management, and chose Sydmar Lodge as it has always been known for it's family oriented atmosphere.
On Wednesday, 7 January 2026, Julia was presented with a Gold Award by Deborah Sturdy, Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care at the Department of Health and Social Care. The award recognises individuals and teams for outstanding contribution, leadership, and innovation within social care.
