St Lukes & The Oaks Care Home

Our family can't thank St Luke's enough and would recommend them highly.

My nan was cared for by St Lukes for two and a half years. When we first went there it was made out to be the best of the best. She seemed to be cared for but as the years went by we noticed bruising, nails not cut, no underwear on, etc. Everything was always covered up and they always had their excuses. When she passed away they were more concerned about us emptying the room and the night staff were sat on their phone. When we went back the next day only one kind lady said sorry for your loss. I feel really sad for the other residents there.

So today, the day after I had not one person call me from the home to ask if there was anything they could do to help.

This review, of course, is seen by myself and experienced by my wife. By that, I see how she reacts to her stay. She is happy and relaxed, in as much as she can be with dementia. These periods at St Lukes are of short duration, periodically once a year, and when she returned, she is welcomed and remembered, which is important to her and myself because of trust. If things were to go awry, I know the manager would sort it.

In general, the whole ambience of the facility is excellent. The staff are absolutely brilliant. I do not know what I would do without them. It would be heartbreaking for me if she was to leave St Lukes.

We are very happy with our mother's care. The home is very good. The care in the home is marvellous. The staff are friendly, always smiling and helpful.

My wife suffered from Alzheimer's disease. I love her dearly, and for more than seven years, I cared for her to the best of my ability. However, recently I sustained a fractured pelvis and damaged vertebrae which made that no longer possible. Since then, she has been cared for by St Lukes with dignity and attention beyond my dreams. She is very happy there and regards the staff more as friends than helpers. My only regret is that I did not arrange her move there much earlier.

Staff extremely good and helpful, which makes the home so satisfactory.

All, staff are lovely, dedicated and hardworking from administration, carer's and nurses, a very big thank you for looking after my mum so well; your kindness is so appreciated.

My sisters and I can only praise the care and genuine kindness displayed by the staff at St Luke's throughout our mother's two years as a resident. When she finally became seriously ill, and it was agreed, after consultation with us and her GP, that her care plan should be changed to 'end of life care', nobody could have done more to make this difficult time easier for Mum and all of us. It was a particularly complex situation due to Covid restrictions, but we were kept informed throughout and, as we all live some distance from the home, we were forewarned in plenty of time when her condition worsened so that we could be with her in her last days. We can't thank St Luke's enough for looking after our Mum and providing a place where she felt safe and free of worry. She loved looking at the trees and the garden out of her window, and we had many telephone conversation about flowers or autumn leaves. This comes with a big 'thank you' to everyone from the kitchen to the senior staff.

The home has taken every step possible to keep our loved ones safe during this pandemic. I have weekly Skype calls with my mum which are priceless. She is so happy there and the staff are second to none. Definitely the best and safest place my mum could have ever been in. I would never hesitate to recommend this home for a loved one. I live in Spain and haven't been able to visit since last March due to travel restrictions but because Mum is so well looked after she is very content which is a great weight off my shoulders.

Care is excellent. My only reservation concerns the food, which I felt was satisfactory, but perhaps more could be done to cater for my sister's, admittedly difficult, preferences. I realise that an institution cannot provide different menus for all the residents but perhaps her favourite (baked potatoes) could have been provided more often.

She was at St Lukes for just a year. She was safe and looked after so well. She had company and she had care. The staff were lovely, both towards her and to us. Nothing was too much bother for them. I have nothing but admiration for everyone who works at St Lukes and during the dark months of the worst of the pandemic, they upped their game even more.

My dad enjoyed his stay and we were very happy with his room. There was a tiny mix up with his medication but that was resolved.

St Lukes is a great care home with kind and compassionate staff who really care about the residents. My mother is happy and has flourished under their care. I also have peace of mind knowing my mother is safe and well looked after and I would recommend the home to anyone.

I am personally very happy with St Lukes as my brother seems very settled and comfortable. All the staff are very caring and willing to solve any problems that might occur. I would not hesitate to recommend St Lukes.

My brother-in-law has been at the home for almost 2 years. He is well fed, comfortable and enjoys taking part in all activities. I have no hesitation in recommending St Lukes.

St Lukes appears to be a friendly care home, attentive friendly staff who seem happy to help. My mum has only been here a short while so can't really comment further.

My father has been a resident in St Lukes care home for a year now, he had a major move from Scotland which was very distressing for him but he is really happy now and never has any complaints about the staff. The staff and management have taken the time to get to know dad and his likes/dislikes. If I ever have any concerns they are on hand to discuss and deal with anything promptly.

I attended a dementia training session in Feb 2019 for family members, the training was given by three senior members of staff. They taught us about the different types of dementia and related symptoms and how we should react or not react to situations. I was so touched by the level of care and work the team puts into ensuring all of the residents, very different, needs are met, it made me feel reassured that dad was in a safe caring environment.
