I was informed of mum's death via email with a follow-up call three hours later.
Despite being weekly visitors to mum for over a year, the manager decided to inform us of her passing via email. He had full contact details, as evidenced by the voicemail he left asking "Did I get the email"
We are disgusted
at the contempt and final indignity shown to our family. People with such disrespect should not be permitted to work in the industry.
Any stars given are purely for the ladies that were kind and welcoming to us every week.

My mum who is suffering with dementia moved into Mulberry almost a year ago and I honestly couldn't have picked a better care home for her.
The staff and management are so caring and friendly and I know she is happy and safe there.
Their communication is fantastic and immediately let me know if anything
changes health wise.
They always encourage her to join in the activities every day and they have celebrations throughout the year when relatives are also encouraged to join in.
There is a lovely garden to enjoy in the warmer months.
I highly recommend this care home.
Reply from Angel Ivanov, Manager at Mulberry HouseThank you so much for your kind and heartfelt words.

My resident came to Mulberry after a series of falls and this care home was recommended by Social Services.
He was initially very unhappy with the situation and made things very difficult with his behaviour towards staff.
However, thanks to the care and dedication of this wonderful team he is now
happily settled, has made friends, and for the first time in his life feels part of a community. He lived a very solitary life for many, many years and I am so happy to see how he now enjoys the company of others.
I am always kept very well informed with any updates to his health, hospital visits etc.
Summer barbecue and Christmas parties are very well organised and looked forward to by the residents and their families.
Nothing is too much trouble for the excellent carers and management. Highly recommend, I am so thankful for the care he receives.
Reply from Angel Ivanov, Manager at Mulberry HouseDear Janice,
Thank you so much for your incredibly kind and thoughtful words. It truly means a great deal to all of us here at Mulberry Care.
We really appreciate the support, patience, and understanding you have shown from the very beginning. We know that the transition was not an easy one, and your trust in us during that time has been invaluable. It is especially heartwarming to hear how settled and happy he is now, and that he feels part of a community-this is exactly what we strive to create for all our residents.
Our team works very hard to provide not just care, but a sense of belonging, dignity, and companionship, so your feedback is incredibly rewarding for everyone involved. We are also so pleased that you feel well informed and included, as maintaining open and honest communication with families is very important to us.
Thank you for your recommendation and for being such a supportive part of our extended Mulberry family. It truly means more than words can express.

They look after an elderly client lady who I have known for over 20 years and I find it hard to reconcile anything other than positivity through my experience of both the Management and Staff. The decision to place her with the home was after a recommendation by Reading Borough Council Adult Social
Services, so their Duty of Care and legal obligations are unlikely to recommend an unsuitable home. The decision used a properly authorised Power of Attorney, which the resident did not wish to provide to her family The Home have always provided exemplary care from staff, and management communication has been continuous and excellent. Any medical issues such as sleeping, eating, bruising (which of course naturally increases with ageing) are promptly dealt with by the involvement of outside professionals and GP's if necessary. They continue to provide first class care.
Reply from Angel Ivanov, Manager at Mulberry HouseDear Geoff,

Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words and continued support. It truly means a great deal to us that you have taken the time to share your experience and perspective.

Your understanding and trust, especially over such a long period of knowing the resident, is deeply appreciated. We are very grateful for the confidence you have shown in both our management and staff team, and for recognising the level of care, communication, and professionalism we always strive to provide.

It is always our priority to ensure that every resident receives safe, compassionate, and dignified care, and your acknowledgement reassures us that we are on the right path.

Thank you again, Geoff, for your ongoing support and understanding-it does not go unnoticed.

Kind regards

I cannot begin to find the right words to say how wonderful this care home is. Everyone who works there from management, carers cleaners etc are so thoughtful and caring. My father was living there for 3 years and 4 months and received wonderful care, he was so happy living there. Everyone felt like
family to us. During the last week before he passed he received amazing care and myself and the rest of the family were looked after with so much love and care which helped us through those difficult days.
I highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a home from home for their loved one.

We are all very sad from the passing of Mr Ken, and I don't think anyone could ever forget him. The amazing impact he had on all of our staff, residents and care home itself was simply impossible to describe with words.
Thank you very much for everything you and your family have done for Mulberry care.
We are very happy you are still popping in for our Tuesday tea morning, and we are still keeping in touch.

My grandad recently spent four weeks at Mulberry Care Residential Home for respite care, and I can honestly say the experience exceeded all our expectations.
From day one, the manager and the entire team made us feel completely at ease. Their professionalism, warmth, and genuine compassion created
an environment where my grandad felt safe, valued, and truly cared for.
The level of attention and support he received was outstanding. The staff were attentive, respectful, and incredibly kind, always going the extra mile to make sure he was comfortable and engaged. They took the time to get to know him, and it showed in the little details - from how they interacted with him to the way they tailored his care.
The home itself is welcoming, clean, and very well-managed. There was a real sense of community, and the atmosphere was one of dignity, joy, and attentive care. It gave our family great peace of mind to know he was in such good hands.
Just massive thank you to all

Mum was staying as an emergency respite from the beginning of December to the end of February. This was her first time in a care home and so our first experience and there have been complexities for us as a family, particularly due to the distances involved between myself and mum. Throughout this whole
experience I have been able to call mum regularly and I speak to a member of the care team most times who always give me an update on mum. Whenever she has seen a health professional the home calls to let me know the outcome. We have needed extra support at times and nothing has been too much trouble and I can't praise the team enough as they have not only looked after my mum, but they have supported me during an incredibly difficult time and I am incredibly grateful to them all.
Reply from Angel Ivanov, Manager at Mulberry HouseThank you very much for your feedback, Tracy. We are very happy, that we were part of mum's life and managed to help during those challenging times.

My mum was in the care home between January 2020 and December 2025. It is always a difficult decision to move a loved one into a care home but from the moment we undertook our initial visit to assess the home, we felt completely reassured and could see the family atmosphere within the home.
Every
family member and friend who visited the home always complimented the staff with their welcome and hospitality. My mum was always well-presented and we knew that she was always treated with respect, and love and care. The activities arranged were varied and encouragement was always given for the residents to join in.
We have many wonderful memories of her time at the home and the care provided.

In the 2 years since my Mum moved into Mulberry House my trust, appreciation, and respect for them has only grown. There are always plenty of staff, and they have always been friendly, professional, calm, and kind in the way they deal with both my Mum and me.
Recently Mum’s condition has deteriorated,
she’s been spending her days in bed. When I visit, over the course of an hour 3 or 4 members of staff come into her room to check on, feed or talk to her. She’s not forgotten! We’ve bought a wheelchair suitable to spend the day in and now she has a sling and hoist so she can spend the day around people again.
There have been a couple of times that issues have had to be raised, especially in the first few months when Mum was not happy in the transition to living in a care home rather than her own home. These were dealt with promptly, openly, and professionally. It’s a weight off my mind to know that Mum is safe and well cared for. I would recommend Mulberry House.

My aunt has been a resident at this home since late 2021 and I can honestly say that I have been very pleased with the level of service and care that she has received during this time. The staff and management are always friendly and helpful, and will always keep me updated with anything that they feel
I should be made aware of. As difficult as my aunt's condition is, I am confident with the quality and experience of care that she is receiving from all of the staff. Also, I like the various activities that are organised for the residents, and the recent garden party for the residents and families went down very well. All I can hope for is the best for my aunt, and I believe that is what she is getting here.

I cannot possibly explain how good the care has been for my grandfather at Mulberry House. He is beyond happy and truly enriched with the vast variety of activities which are often adapted to meet his individual interests. The staff go above and beyond to look after him and communicate with us as a
family. They all seem genuinely concerned for his wellbeing and nothing is ever any trouble. They have gone above and beyond since he moved in to make sure he feels like he's at home and the small touches like a party for this birthday which we could attend continue to make it feel like he's living in his own home for both him and the family. Thank you Mulberry House staff and management for all you have done and continue to do.

Mum has been a resident at Mulberry for almost 3 years now. We are extremely pleased with the care she receives. Staff are fantastic and it is obvious when we visit that Mum has a lovely rapport with them.
Mum is happy and occupied. The activity programme is excellent and it is lovely to see all of
the photos every week of what has been going on.
Management is also excellent. Always on hand to answer any queries and always update us on any issues Mum may have. They have worked tirelessly to keep everyone safe through the pandemic and at the same time providing a safe environment for us to visit.
We couldn't wish for Mum to be in a happier safer environment - it has a lovely family feel.
Thank you as always Mulberry.

My father has been a resident for more than 18 months and seems very happy in Mulberry. He is always very clean and responds well to the cheerful carers. During his residency, most weeks being under Covid restrictions, he has faced a number of health scares. As a family we were regularly updated with
any information, movements to/from hospital and Dr visits. Carers call on a daily basis inquiring as to his health whilst in hospital, all of which reassures us that they genuinely care!
The management team are very informative and seem to support the staff well, whilst maintaining good discipline and motivation.
Despite ongoing Covid restrictions, the home have managed visitors by creating a clean and safe visitor room. Posters and photos keep you informed as to the many activities carried out during the day; which seem to be enjoyable to all residents, judging by their smiling faces.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.439)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.439) out of 10 for Mulberry House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.639 for Mulberry House is calculated as follows: ( (128 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 155 Ratings = 4.639
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mulberry House is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 35 registered maximum number of service users is 7, which has been reached with 12 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
