White Plains is a purpose-built care home set in eight acres of manicured gardens in Denham, Buckinghamshire. Overlooking the village’s aerodrome, the home benefits from two living environments, newly-refurbished facilities, and a team of staff that work under B&M Care’s ‘Rose Model of Dementia Care’ – a unique approach to dementia care that looks at engaging, empowering and flourishing an individual who lives in the home’s care.

One of the home’s newest features is White Rose Cottage: a quintessential cottage situated in White Plains’ ‘Woodland Walk’. Characterised by a thatched roof and a traditional interior, the cottage is used not only as an area to provide engagement for residents, but can be hired by relatives to host occasions and celebrations.

My mother-in-law was a resident at White Plains for a few years. It was such a lovely home and the care and attention from all the staff was exceptional. The manager and all the senior staff were excellent, very professional and very approachable, nothing was too much trouble. The atmosphere within
the home was so friendly and positive and I was always greeted with a smile. The end of life care for my mother-in-law and the support for my husband and I was wonderful. We were so fortunate to have found White Plains and we cannot thank the manager and all the staff enough for all that they did.

My mother is 93 and suffers from Alzheimer's. When my father died some 3 years ago, Mum lived alone for a while, which was her request. However, after a fall in the home, we decided we would like her to be cared for. White Plains is a lovely home and I have nothing but praise for the wonderful, caring
staff. The home itself is clean and tidy and whilst Mum would prefer her own home she seems happy and contented. She says it is a nice place to live. I would highly recommend White Plains to anyone looking for care for and elderly relative.

Our experience of White Plains has been positive in all aspects from first viewing to our mother moving in. Staff are all very caring and helpful. Mum found it difficult to settle but the staff have gone out of their way to make her feel at home. She is now well settled.

I have been visiting White Plains over a period of 18 months, each time I visit I am made so welcome by the lovely staff and management always offered tea of coffee. The premises in every area are kept immaculate and extremely clean, the lovely gardens and the setting is something out of this world.
In conclusion an extremely well-managed care home. I cannot fault it.

After mum arrived it took her a couple of months to settle, since then she has mostly been relaxed and comfortable within the care homes routine. Very pleased with the quality of staff and care she receives.

Found mum asleep in residents lounge following lunch, she, upon waking, was very responsive and pleased to see me. She was well turned out and at ease with everything. The staff were as ever responsive and updated the situation on mum to me as is usual. No adverse comments all well and good. Spent a
pleasant hour in the garden with mum. Had fresh fruit in her room and find it in good order, clean, tidy and fresh throughout. Mum is high dependence and as ever I find her content and at ease here. Well done.

My mother moved to White Plains on 2/5/16 following a long stay in the hospital. Mum was no longer able to care for herself, take medication, regularly eat properly or put herself to bed. However, with the gentle constant care of the manager and her staff, she has become a person again. She looks cared
for and well (with hair and nails done too!) at home. The daily activities help to keep her mind active whereas she simply sat in a chair before not even watching TV. The 24-hour care is a great relief to us as she is unsteady on her feet as well as the problems mentioned above, her falls have put her in the hospital several times. White Plains is a place where I would be happy to live, it's peaceful countryside location, excellent facilities and staff are reminiscent of a lovely hotel.

My mother has been a resident at White Plains for just over two years. She is very happy and receives excellent care there. I am always greeted with a warm welcome from the staff and the overall appearance of White Plains is clean and attractive. When the weather is good, it is lovely sitting in the
garden. Since my mother has been at White Plains, I am much more relaxed knowing that she is in good hands and that if there should be a problem, I would be informed. When she lived independently, I used to worry about her most of the time. She has company now and the opportunity to join in the activities.

I could not have ended up in a better care home. When it was time to find a care home I deliberately chose White Plains because it is run by someone I had met some years before in a home where my wife who has since passed away was staying with dementia and I soon recognised her special qualities of
empathy and care. As I suspected before coming she would have selected staff with the same qualities, and I have long realised that the qualities are more important to a resident than the state of the building. In fact the rooms and grounds and facilities are all that one could desire.

My aunt has been at White Plains for 6 or 7 years and ahs been looked after very well. She is now 99 and sadly had a dizzy spell in her room and fell over. The staff found her and after a while decided to call an ambulance she was taken to the hospital and we were finding it very difficult to get her
out although there was nothing seriously wrong. Successive Doctors rather than release her kept deciding on yet another diagnostic. After a week largely spent in bed my aunt was not doing well. I cannot praise the head of the home enough for her barrage of encouragement to release her and have her back in the home which she applied to the matron and other staff at the hospital. It worked and largely thanks to her that my aunt is back at home and recovering from the hospital stay.

Nina Szmigielska

Job Title: Home Manager

Nina has worked in care for the past 15 years, mainly specialising in dementia care. Throughout this time, she has developed a mature and responsible approach, undertaking extensive training including an IAO Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care, as well as participating in B&M Care’s Leadership Pathway in 2022. Making a difference in people’s lives brings her great joy and immense job satisfaction. She feels very privileged to be part of the wonderful team who goes above and beyond to care for and enchant the lives of each one of the residents at White Plains.
