At Caton House the team, many of whom have been with the home for over a decade, are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents. They provide an exceptionally high standard of care and create so many wonderful activities and experiences for their residents.

Providing residential, dementia, nursing, palliative care, the team also provide respite care breaks which can be booked in advance, ideal for carers who would like to plan a short break themselves. There is also a day centre (£27.47 for a half day/£54.94 for a full day).

The home has its own choir, with the residents pulling out all the stops for big occasions like Christmas. And musicians, singers and dancers from the local community often come and perform for the residents.

There are so many animal visits, including regular therapy dog whom the residents adore. There are also gentle exercise sessions, a knitting club, baking, games and quizzes galore.

The community are embraced into life at Caton House, from volunteers who join in with activities and spend time chatting with the residents, to local school children who treat them to sneak previews of special performances, and a local church group who do a monthly service in the home.

Every week a mobile hairdresser visits for appointments in the home’s salon, and there are regular pamper sessions, with manicures. Every week there is a sensory afternoon, with relaxing music, mood lighting and activities to stimulate the senses like hand massages.

This summer the residents have loved growing their own produce in the home’s enclosed gardens, from carrots and tomatoes to peppers and herbs. And they have proudly harvested the produce for the chef to use in the kitchen, which has given them such a sense of achievement.

In the dining room, residents enjoy delicious home-cooked cuisine, from roast dinners with all the trimmings, fish and chip Fridays and home-baking.

Staff are friendly but facility is under staffed, particularly at night when my Mother (who had cancer that had spread to the Liver, Bowel and Pancreas) was regularly forced to wait 30 minutes+ to go to the toilet, on one occasion I had to ask three times while I was there in the evening with her, in
the latter stages before she passed away she was expected to go on a pad and they would clean her up but again this might be subject to a wait.
When she did pass in the early hours of one morning and I was called back about an hour after I left, it was very clear that the apparent friendliness and sensitivity lasted only as long as the Resident was breathing and thus earning money for the Company.
I was told in no uncertain terms that I had to get the room cleared within 24 hours or else the NHS would be presented with another bill, yes, not even 30 minutes had passed from my being shown my Mother's now lifeless body to being served that demand before promptly being shown the door.
Reply from Jacob Hardie, Design and Marketing Assistant at Caton House Residential and Nursing HomeWe're truly saddened to hear that aspects of the care provided to your mother did not meet your expectations during such a difficult time. While we're glad you found our staff to be friendly, we take concerns about staffing and support very seriously. Your feedback has been shared with our senior management and care teams. We are committed to learning from this and ensuring our care continues to reflect the standards we are so proud of, with all residents and their families being treated with the dignity, respect, and compassion they deserve.

I visited my mother on Good Friday an Easter service had been arranged for the residents. The exceedingly pleasant carer in charge handed out hot cross buns and cups of tea beforehand, and then distributed typed sheets with the readings and hymns. A pianist had come in specially for the service.
Although
Mun is deaf, she sat in the room quite happily and enjoyed reading the order of service.
The carers had gone to a lot of effort and showed the usual high standards of care and compassion I have come to expect from all who work at Caton House.
Reply from Jacob Hardie, Design and Marketing Assistant at Caton House Residential and Nursing HomeThank you for your lovely feedback. We're so pleased you and your mother enjoyed the Easter service. It means a lot to know our team's efforts and care made the day special. Your continued trust in Caton House is truly appreciated.

Mum has been a resident for 13 months now. She settled in quickly, the team here are kind and caring and nothing is too much trouble. The leadership team are visible and available, one staff member in particular is a joy and another very supportive and kind. It seems wrong to single them out as all
are great! Mum is very happy here. Food is great as are the activities.

My mother has been a resident at Caton House since December 2024, and I couldn't be happier with the care she receives. The staff are incredibly caring, helpful and friendly, always going above and beyond to ensure she is comfortable and well looked after. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making
it feel like a home rather than just a care facility. I highly recommend recommend Caton House to anyone looking for quality care for a loved one.

MUM STAYED FOR TEN DAYS IN FEBRUARY AND WE WERE APPREHENSIVE AS SHE IS QUIET A SOLITARY PERSON AND HAD NEVER BEEN IN RESPITE BEFORE. WHEN WE ARRIVED TO COLLECT HER WE WERE SURPRISED HOW UPBEAT AND HAPPY SHE WAS. ON SPEAKING TO HER IN THE FOLLOWING DAYS SHE SAID HOW KIND AND CARING THE STAFF HAD BEEN
AND HOW MUCH SHE HAD ENJOYED HER STAY AND ENJOYED PARTICIPATING IN THE ACTIVITIES.
WE HAD FOUND ALL THE STAFF FRIENDLY. KIND AND APPROACHABLE AND WOULD RECOMMEND THIS CAREHOME

My mother has recently lost some of her mobility and it would seem she is not receiving the same level of care and support as previously. I am also finding it more difficult and more expensive to actually pay for her private costs, I used to get a monthly invoice and just call with her credit card details.
Because I have a medically diagnosed tremor I cannot key these details in via mobile phone keypad so I now have to post a cheque which entails a trip to my bank to transfer money and the cost of postage, all at extra expense to myself. This has been explained to yourselves, but nothing has been done about it?
Reply from Kate Yates, Communications and Content Specialist at Caton House Residential and Nursing HomeThank you for your feedback. We truly value your concerns and want to assure you that we are committed to providing the best possible care and support for your mother. Our home manager is committed to continue to work very closely with your mother, as she has been, to discuss and implement different solutions which is felt will help with any mobility issues. This will continue to be monitored and changed as necessary. Regarding the payment process, we completely understand the difficulties you're facing and have worked hard to encourage the transition to online banking as a solution. This option simplifies the process and avoids the challenges you've mentioned. Please know we are here to assist you every step of the way. If you'd like, we can help guide you through setting up and using online banking to make things easier for you. Your satisfaction is very important to us, and we want to resolve this for you as soon as possible.

Mum has enjoyed very good care since arriving in September 2022. For the first three months, she was able to join in with activities and was encouraged to do so. Since breaking her wrist and a subsequent decline in her health, Mum has been bedridden (December 22). She gets good care from all staff and
excellent from certain members of staff. Refering for treatment can be a slow process, but I feel that this is the surgery/NHS and not within the care home itself. Thanks.

I thoroughly enjoyed my respite stay at Caton House. To be honest, I cannot fault it - it was perfect! All members of staff gave excellent service, above and beyond the call of duty. They made me feel special and safe. Everyone was kind and professional, always acting as if nothing was too much trouble.
It gave my daughter and her family a proper break from the responsibility of caring for me 24/7. She knew I was being looked after in a safe, controlled and caring environment. I was happy knowing she was having a break. I soon settled in my lovely room. It was everything I could ask for, especially with a large window looking onto a little garden with a bird feeder and bird bath. The food was outstanding! I looked forward to every meal and enjoyed dining with other residents. Each day I was encouraged to partake in activities which were led by kind, fun and caring staff. In my opinion, it was money well spent and I am very much looking forward to going again in a few weeks time.

My mum was only in the care home for 3 nights before she passed away, the nurses were great I could talk with them about my mum they would listen and advise, the chef went out of their way to try and encourage my mum to eat. My mum wasn’t happy that the food wasn’t always piping hot as she was used
to at home but things were listened to and tried to change, the home was clean. The bad part received a call from my mum during the night on the 2nd night she was in, wanting help to get to the toilet, whoever had helped her to bed hadn’t moved the buzzer so it was reachable for her. She was quite distressed. I spoke with the nurses and was assured it wouldn’t happen again. The only other problem was having to organise things like the toilet frame as there was only one helping rail at the toilet not one on either side. Overall my mum was in a small room, it wasn’t the easiest for her to move around in with her frame.

My mum has been at Caton House Residential and Nursing Home for one year and has settled in very well. She is visually impaired and has dementia so has very complex needs and at times, a challenging behaviour. The staff are doing a wonderful job caring for my mum, she is always clean, dressed and her
room is clean and tidy. It has taken a load off my mind knowing that she is safe. The staff are approachable dealing with any requests as needed and keep me informed and involved. They are friendly towards relatives and reception is very welcoming. The home is nicely decorated and well-maintained. The food is good, the chefs freshly prepare the food and know what my mum likes eating. They bake delicious cakes for afternoon tea. The entertainment team provide daily activities which are available for residents to join in if they wish. My mum occasionally does and will enjoy it.
Overall, I can highly recommend Caton House. The wonderful staff give love and care to the residents as if they are family.

The overall care given at Caton House is good with friendly and helpful staff, carers and nurses. My father has mobility and mental issues, he is completely reliant on the help and support of others, which is given at Caton House.
Obviously, care in a care home is not like being in your own home with
one-to-one attention, but my mother visits every day keeping an eye on him, making sure he is being looked after and feeling loved.
If I have made requests (e.g. personal hygiene, oral or other, room maintenance etc.), they are always dealt with positively and everyone is willing to help. Caton House has just had some re-decoration and new furniture which has brightened up the corridors and living room.

If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Rebecca

Rebecca Kilman

Job Title: Activities co-ordinator Joined: 2009

My main responsibilities are to create a relaxed, safe and happy environment for our residents to enjoy a full range of activities; either in large groups, small groups or on a 1-1 basis.

We do lots of singing and have regular entertainment, visitors from local schools join us, and we play bingo, and do arts and crafts, yoga, darts and hoopla to name a few!
We also celebrate our residents' birthdays, throwing big or small parties (whatever they prefer) for their families and friends to enjoy with them in the comfort of their homes.
I love helping our residents to enjoy their time here as much as they can and also to provide comfort when they need it.
