At Caton House the team, many of whom have been with the home for over a decade, are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents. They provide an exceptionally high standard of care and create so many wonderful activities and experiences for their residents.

Providing residential, dementia, nursing, palliative care, the team also provide respite care breaks which can be booked in advance, ideal for carers who would like to plan a short break themselves. There is also a day centre (£27.47 for a half day/£54.94 for a full day).

The home has its own choir, with the residents pulling out all the stops for big occasions like Christmas. And musicians, singers and dancers from the local community often come and perform for the residents.

There are so many animal visits, including regular therapy dog whom the residents adore. There are also gentle exercise sessions, a knitting club, baking, games and quizzes galore.

The community are embraced into life at Caton House, from volunteers who join in with activities and spend time chatting with the residents, to local school children who treat them to sneak previews of special performances, and a local church group who do a monthly service in the home.

Every week a mobile hairdresser visits for appointments in the home’s salon, and there are regular pamper sessions, with manicures. Every week there is a sensory afternoon, with relaxing music, mood lighting and activities to stimulate the senses like hand massages.

This summer the residents have loved growing their own produce in the home’s enclosed gardens, from carrots and tomatoes to peppers and herbs. And they have proudly harvested the produce for the chef to use in the kitchen, which has given them such a sense of achievement.

In the dining room, residents enjoy delicious home-cooked cuisine, from roast dinners with all the trimmings, fish and chip Fridays and home-baking.

Whenever I vist my dad I always speak to the nurses first to see if anyone anything medically has changed for my dad. They are all very knowledgeable and friendly. All the staff I have met over the years Dad has been in Caton House Residential and Nursing Home have been respectful and considerate to
Dad. I believe he's being looked after with dignity and care. Caton House always seems clean and secure. The receptionist is also always friendly and helpful.

My dad spent the last year of his life at Caton House.
The care provided to him was outstanding. Staff genuinely care for the residents and seem to enjoy working there. My dad would frequently mention how kind everyone was.
Having spent time with my dad (and time while he was asleep), and observing
how staff interacted with other residents, I was impressed with the professional but kind and personal approach given to each resident. Caton House gave peace of mind to my family in my dad's final year, knowing that he was being taken care of, and cared for, by such a lovely team of people.

An excellent manager who always has time to listen to any concerns. All staff are friendly and helpful. My dad has a feeding tube so doesn't eat but the food looks good. The staff take time with residents.

Dad joined Caton House this month. Everybody has been very welcoming. Staff are caring and attentive. The manager is extremely professional, exceptionally helpful and always has a smile for you. Dad's room is light and airy and very clean.
Staff are amazing- everybody.
I know Dad is in great hands.

I find the service user is well looked after. The service user is given choices and communication is delivered within the user's mental capabilities.
The home is welcoming, clean, tidy and the user's room is presentable. I feel the home does an excellent job of caring for the users.

My husband is very well looked after by really lovely, friendly staff. Nothing is ever too much trouble and all the staff, including kitchen staff, laundry, cleaning, maintenance and everyone I’ve met at Caton House Residential and Nursing Home is cheerful, friendly and kind. There are lots of activities
for residents to enjoy if they want to.
Reply from Fae Doherty, Senior Marketing Officer at Caton House Residential and Nursing HomeThank you so much for your review. It's wonderful to hear how well your husband is looked after by our team. Our team will be so pleased to hear your kind words about them. Best wishes, Fae.

My wife has lived at Caton House Residential and Nursing Home for five years and after my initial reservations regarding care homes in general, I am extremely pleased that we made the choice we did. Covid made things difficult for a while but I feel things are getting back on track.

My dad lived a completely independent life until he had a stroke in November. He was then in hospital until January 2023. He arrived at Caton House Residential and Nursing Home on January 16th. He is upstairs in the nursing section of the house.
Dad cannot eat, he is fed by a PEG. But he has water
and an occasional yoghurt for pleasure, which was all approved by a hospital’s nutritionist first.
It was all quite a shock for Dad and us for him to suddenly be in a home.
It took Dad a few weeks to get used to being there but with the help and kindness of the staff he is now settled in and feeling much safer. The staff are friendly and patient. I have asked Dad and he has said they are lovely to him.
There are activities most days which they help Dad to join in with.
No one wants to end up in a home but this seems like a good one.

The care my dad receives at Caton House Residential and Nursing Home is exemplary. Every member of staff knows him personally, calls him by his name and treats him with respect.
Staff are interested in his whole life and who he was, not just the elderly resident he is now.
Staff work in partnership
with our family to ensure a joined-up personal approach to Dad’s daily care needs.
The care home manager always makes time to listen to our family and responds quickly to any queries.
I would highly recommend Caton House and the quality of care they provide.

The staff at Caton House are friendly, helpful and kind to my mother who is 93 and totally bedridden. They are open to observations and quirks of her behaviour, particularly when it comes to strange things she won't eat.
Her clothes are well looked after and efficiently washed and returned and the
food seems to be very good when I see the menu and trolley go past!

My experience of Caton House Residential and Nursing Home has been overwhelmingly positive. When I visit, I am greeted in a friendly manner, by every member of staff I come across. The nursing and care staff have been brilliant with my mother-in-law, who has some very challenging behaviours. I find
communicating with the home very easy: they're extremely responsive to emails and phone calls and very reassuring at all times. We are kept informed of any issues immediately. Although my mother-in-law doesn't take part in activities. I have the greatest respect for the activities team, who I have seen in action, and who are wonderfully empathetic and do their very best to engage all residents at all levels.

Mum moved to Caton House in February 2015, following a number of incidents while living alone in Dorset.
From the moment she arrived both Mum and her family felt welcome and respected.
Unfortunately, Mum’s mental health continues to deteriorate and this puts immense pressure on the staff but they
are always caring and supportive.

My wife was hospitalised in April 2022 and a delayed discharge plan eventually permitted her to be released to Caton House Residential and Nursing Home. The manager greatly assisted the process. She remained at Caton from 05/05/2022 - 01/06/20222 where she received good care and consideration. She moved
to another care home but in no way was this a comment on Caton. I would have no hesitation in recommending Caton and would be happy to return if necessary.

I didn't give 5-stars for cleanliness because I never do - I'm OCD! And while I think Caton House's value for money compares very well with other care homes, the absolute cost is very high. It's the fault of the market/system rather than Caton House.
Before Mum's respite at Caton House, she was not
eating or drinking properly and was losing weight. She was emotionally distressed and isolated, despite phone calls and visits from family. She thrived during her respite - she put on weight and enjoyed all the activities and socialising.
Overall, I wanted to give 4 1/2 stars, but the website wouldn't let me, so I had to give 4, which isn't a true reflection.

My brother has been in Caton House Residential and Nursing Home for nearly five years and is settled and happy there, enjoys the company of the other residents and the activities which are very good. The staff are very friendly and approachable and committed to their work and I believe do a great job.

I have found Caton House Residential and Nursing Home to be very supportive and caring. Before moving to Caton House my aunt was very lonely and withdrawn. However, after just a short time she is chatting to other residents and taking part in daily activities.
The food is really appealing and she is
never short of a cup of tea and a biscuit which makes her very happy.
Keep up the amazing job you are doing.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.405)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.405) out of 10 for Caton House Residential and Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 40 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.405 for Caton House Residential and Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (260 Excellents x 5) + (143 Goods x 4) + (52 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 464 Ratings = 4.405
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Caton House Residential and Nursing Home is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
