On my first contact with Cedars, I found the staff exceptionally helpful at a worrying time for my Mum to make the transition from hospital. We chose Cedars after an initial visit and speaking to people who knew residents in the home. Staff are always approachable and understanding, they have soon got
to know Mum and are dealing with Mum's anxiety and aggression with patience and respect. Mum always looks comfortable in her lovely quiet room in an area that other residents do not wander in. This was so important for us to know she is safe. This puts the family at ease after a difficult few months.
Reply from Eve Fynn, Marketing and Communications Lead at Cedars PlaceThank you for your kind words and wonderful feedback. We are so pleased to hear that your mum feels safe and comfortable, and that you find staff to be approachable and understanding. My mother-in-law came into the Meadows unit for end-of-life care. This unit is amazing! The staff are so friendly, caring, compassionate and very well trained. My mother-in-law was cared for so well, with respect and dignity. She felt safe and was happy in her final surroundings. The staff just make
the care top-notch! We cannot thank them enough for the care she received.

My brother has suffered prior to being here. He is now recovering from previous trauma in his previous care. He has become his old self and is totally happy here. Taking all the pressure off me.

Mum is currently very poorly and in a lot of pain. The staff are doing all they can to make her more comfortable and they keep me informed when necessary. The buzzer response time is not always immediate but I appreciate Mum buzzes quite a lot.
Reply from Ruth French, Director at Cedars PlaceThank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts about the home. Dignity is the only thing that matters, to see the way you have all treated my Mum, is a credit to you all. To see how she has touched you all is heartwarming. A team that genuinely cares from management to cleaners and every single carer is a credit to your career.
Thank you.

I have generally had a very good experience with my dad in the home.
I would like to make his room more homely but that also requires my mum to take part in this and allow items from home to stay in his room.
The room and bathroom always Very clean.
I am not always convinced he is in his clothes
but always looks ok.
Not always shaven but that can be down to my Dad not wanting to be shaved.
The senior is always an up-to-date Dad.
The activities lady at Cedars is great.
Cedars Thank you for what you do for Dad.

My Mum has been a resident since late last year. I have been very impressed with the friendly team there from carers to the office team. From the start Mum was made to feel welcome, they quickly put up her pictures and let her bring a few bits of her own furniture to make her room feel like ‘her room’.
It was a hard time for Mum, just having lost my Dad but she was treated with kindness, empathy, and respect. They encouraged Mum to leave her room and join in with the activities they offered but respected her when she wanted time on her own. I arrived to visit and found Mum joining in with exercises, crafts, and singing amongst other things. She is looking healthier than before she moved into Cedar Place. They have kept me informed and helped with any inquiries I have had. Mum recently had a fall and I was informed quickly and given regular updates through the night as she was seen by medical personnel. I have had lunch with Mum a few times and enjoyed my meal. Thank you!

Absolutely brilliant. I was in Meadows Unit (nursing). The staff are so caring and kind and bend over backwards to help me make my stay as pleasant as possible. The nurses are extremely experienced in everything they do from taking blood to dressings. I have never been so happy living here. The whole
place is clean and tidy and smells wonderful. As an ex-carer myself, I know a great home when I see one and this home is one in a million. I highly recommend this place as I now call it home. The deputy manager is beyond amazing, she makes meadows. She is so funny and I and the other residents love her. They are all amazing.

I've had a brother-in-law in Meadows unit since December 2022 and would like to say that over the last six months have had lots of contact with staff members who, regardless of circumstances, have always been more than happy, friendly, helpful and where my family member is concerned, they have been
the extra mile and back to make him comfortable! Am happy to say I highly recommend the care home as our experience, so far, has been fantastic! Have genuinely made friendships with staff.

After a considerable stay in hospital, where she had acquired additional medical issues from being continually bedbound, Mum was discharged to the Meadows unit of Cedars Place Care Home. The manager has tailored her care to her specific needs and she is now healing slowly. The staff are caring and kind
with nothing being too much trouble for them. Mum was living independently prior to her hospital admission so is finding it difficult to be dependent on others but the staff continue to make her feel included and a valued member of their community and to me, she looks much better than she has for a long time. She has a lovely room and is taken to the lounge daily to socialise. It is such a relief to know that she is in safe hands.

From the day my mum stepped into Cedars Place Care Home, I knew I had made the right decision for her. She's now been there three weeks. My mother has now been in Cedars Place Care Home for over a year (she came in on 6th January 2021). At first, I was very unsure as to how she would feel and settle into her surroundings as she had been a very independent woman and that she now has the onset of dementia.
The staff have made her feel
very welcome, it's just like having a big, happy family with you 24/7.
Yes, she does complain that she doesn't do anything all day and that she says she just 'sits'. I know this not to be true as they send me photos of her making things, flower arranging, going to the cinema etc.
The staff give 100% devotion to their residents and the atmosphere is very relaxing.
They have had an amazing CQC report of outstanding and it shows.
Well done everyone.

My mother has just moved into the home. She is changing day by day to a much happier self. Mum loves the food, she said "You get a proper portion here and it's good food". The food is what elderly people would have known in their younger days, wholesome, a good, basic diet, nothing too fancy that they
don't understand. As Mum got out of bed to speak to me on the phone, the pressure pad on the floor was activated and a member of care staff was with her in 20 seconds. If I had to mention a negative, it's only that I can't have lunch with her and I have to pay for a coffee when I visit her. Although I feel the cost of care is very fair compared to other homes - a little more for the relatives would be nice in a cup of tea and a biscuit. Mum was a manager of two care homes and I have managed care homes, so we know what good care is. Cedars Place Care Home is outstanding (as denoted by the CQC report). I can't thank the staff enough for their caring, professional attitude.

My father stayed at Cedar Place Care Home, Halstead for two weeks of respite care, this was to introduce him to 24/7 residential care, looking at future, long-term options for his care and to give my husband, who is his current, full-time carer and myself a very needed break. I can honestly say that
the quality of care he received was excellent, the pre-assessment information that I provided was crucial to understanding who my father is and the support he needed, this was followed by the staff which contributed greatly to my father’s well-being during his stay. The respect and kindness were evident and the staff’s knowledge and understanding of dementia was clear.
Visitors were also encouraged which was very reassuring because my father has lived all of his life (94 years) in two homes on the same land so having family and friends visit freely helped him settle as much as he could.
Thank you.

I was very apprehensive about putting Mum into a care home but since she has been there she has thrived. The staff are very supportive and nothing is too much trouble.
There is always someone about to talk to should I need to ask questions and I'm updated on all the goings on Mum has been up to! Bell
ringing, flower arranging etc.
When a carer approaches her, her face lights up. She waves me goodbye and often says "you can go home now"!
What more could I ask for?

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.797)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.797) out of 10 for Cedars Place is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.797 for Cedars Place is calculated as follows: ( (278 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 344 Ratings = 4.797
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cedars Place is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
