Our family has had a very positive experience with this care home. The staff consistently treat my parent living with dementia with dignity and respect, and they take the time to understand their needs and communicate with us clearly. We have felt reassured that they are being cared for safely and compassionately.

We

have also noticed a significant improvement in our other parent since their move from hospital into the home. Their physical and especially their cognitive health have improved, and they are much more settled and comfortable than they were previously. The staff provide appropriate friendly support without being intrusive, and the structured routine appears to have helped with both confidence and stability.

The home has a calm atmosphere, and we appreciate the regular updates from staff and their willingness to address any questions promptly. We feel that both parents are being looked after thoughtfully and professionally.

Reply from Lynn Pereira, Marketing and Content Executive at Horkesley ManorThank you so much for your lovely review. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

We are so pleased to hear that both of your parents have settled well at Horkesley Manor, and that you feel reassured by the care, kindness and respect shown by our team. It is especially encouraging to hear about the positive changes you have seen in your other parent since moving from hospital.

Thank you also for your kind words about the calm atmosphere and the communication from staff. Your feedback means a great deal to us and will be shared with the team.

My Mum is a resident in Horkesley Manor and I cannot speak highly enough for all the care kindness consideration and love she is receiving. I was worried that she would miss being at home this Christmas but thanks to the staff she now thinks of Horkesley as home. Everyone went above and beyond to give
them all the best of times and the staff gave residents gifts in case no one would receive any, my Mum received the most beautiful hand beaded picture of an owl which they had found out was her favourite animal and we found out that a staff member had made it herself in her own time. Brought my mum to tears of joy.
How lucky I am that I can go to work and feel this secure that my mum is being looked after in such a caring way. There's a happy feeling from everyone working there and if you have to take a family member somewhere for care , you couldn't find a better place . Thank you to everyone that's working here for giving me invaluable piece of mind and most importantly loving my Mum
Reply from Lynn Pereira, Marketing and Content Executive at Horkesley ManorThank you very much for sharing such a thoughtful review. It is greatly appreciated by everyone at Horkesley Manor.

We were very pleased to hear that your mum felt truly at home with us over the Christmas period. Your peace of mind means a great deal to us, and we are grateful for the trust you place in our team to care for your mum.

My dad's life has changed so much for the better since being at Horkesley Manor. My dad had a long term diagnosis of epilepsy and a new diagnosis of dementia but we suspected the cocktail of epilepsy drugs were contributing to his deterioration and dementia symptoms. Not one doctor would listen though.
That all changed at Horkesley manor because their nurses listened and supported us. With their support we finally got his neurologist to wean him off some meds. Now my dad who at one time didn't know who I was, always recognises me and even asks after my children. He is never aggressive anymore. He expresses that he is happy where he is and he feels like he is being looked after by a family. That is such a comfort to us. He is always well looked after. Clean and comfortable. He has plenty to eat and drink and enjoys his meals. We cannot thank the staff at Horkesley Manor enough for everything they have done for my dad. We wouldn't want him to be anywhere else.
Reply from Charlie Diamond, Marketing and Communications Lead at Horkesley ManorThank you for sharing such a wonderful review. We're so pleased to hear how much of a positive difference our team at Horkesley Manor has made to your dad's wellbeing. Knowing he feels happy, safe, and cared for like family means so much to us. Your kind words will be shared with the team, who will be incredibly proud of the role they've played in supporting him and your family.

I'm afraid despite the friendliness and commitment of some of the staff, I would not recommend this establishment to anyone, we made that mistake before we realised just how poor some of the practices were, and needless to say the friend who we recommended also turned out to be shocked by some of the
lack of care and support shown to their mother and are also going to be reporting it.My relative ended up being safeguarded by the hospital, and the home looked into by social care (also reported to CQC), After my relative ended up in hospital for a month, and the attitude of Stow healthcare senior management leaves a lot to be desired, so much so I have commenced legal action to recover fees paid during the period that she did not receive the care and support she should have done. The fact that the fees for this home totalled almost £1750 a week, including fnc, and yet not only the service provided was poor, but the food, and lack of basic hygiene care as well. Her new home is far superior
Reply from Charlie Diamond, Marketing and Communications Lead at Horkesley ManorThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are genuinely sorry that your experience did not reflect the standard of care we strive to provide and we recognise how upsetting this must have been for you and your family. We take all concerns extremely seriously. In response to the issues raised, we carried out an internal review and worked with external professionals. We acknowledge that at times our communication could have been clearer and we regret you did not feel supported. We have reflected on this feedback and used it to strengthen our approach, especially around communication. While we believe appropriate procedures were followed, we recognise the impact this experience had and are truly sorry for this. Due to confidentiality and GDPR requirements, we cannot discuss circumstances publicly. However, we are open to constructive dialogue and welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly if you wish to discuss any remaining concerns with our senior management team.

My elderly mother is blind/deaf with dementia and limited mobility. She has complex needs requiring specialist care and is supported by a responsive team of nurses and carers skilled in managing her physical and psychological well-being. Importantly, they have taken the time to get to know her and
have now become my mother's trusted friends and companions.
All the staff are wonderful - nothing is too much trouble - and everything is done with a smile !
Horkesley Manor has given my mother a quality of life that I never thought possible. Having previously spent a long time bedridden in hospital, it has been miraculous to see my mother in a wheelchair enjoying the sunshine in the garden.
What sets Horkesley Manor apart is a real sense of compassion in looking after others and treating them with respect and dignity. It has made a tangible difference to my mother's life and our family and I will be forever grateful for the kindness and understanding she continues to receive each day.

Our Mum has been staying at Horkesley Manor for 8 months now and we cannot praise this beautiful care home enough. All the staff are wonderfully caring and supportive to our mum with excellent nursing and personal care. It truly feels like home from home because they involve us all as a family.
When
we visit there is always a lovely happy and calm atmosphere, and the staff all work together well.
Horkesley Manor is super clean, light and airy with views over the meadow from the dining room, a good variety on the menu home cooked by the chef and plenty of activities going on if you wish to participate yet also quiet and peaceful
We feel very lucky to have found such a wonderful care home for our Mum.

Horkesley Manor has a truly welcoming atmosphere with a fantastic manager and carers and nurses who are passionate about care and attention. Everyone has time to talk and doors are always open to assist with any special needs or requests. The home has a cheerful feel and every member of staff greets
you with a smile. The property has nice decor with clean and bright rooms. Dog friendly which is so important to residents and visiting families and everyone feels welcome. It was so hard having to move my father into a care home although we had run out of other options for care. However, we chose the right one! Horkesley Manor are taking very good care of my father. There is a good ratio of male carers which is good for him and his dignity. All the staff from cleaners
to managers are good. Whenever we have had concerns the management team have been quick and transparent and very professional to deal with our concern. There are a good range of activities and interaction available if that is what your loved one would like.

Could not fault the care and attention they bestowed on my father whilst he was there, from the groundsmen to the manager. Everyone was amazing. I would absolutely recommend this home to anyone looking for a safe and comfortable stay for themselves or a loved one. I will miss the staff and their friendly

My father passed away whilst he was there and he was treated with dignity and respect.

My mother who has Alzheimer's has been residing in Horkesley Manor for a year and a half. I am so thankful for the way the staff care, respect and are being so kind to my mother and us as a family. Nothing is too much and the level of care is of a very high standard. The room my mother has and the Aspen
Memory Centre is just a wonderful place to be in. Always clean. As a family, we know that our loved one is safe, secure and her wellbeing is being catered for to a very high standard. We cannot ask for more.
Thank you so much for all you do, I would not hesitate in recommending Horkesley Manor to anyone else who needs care for their loved ones.

My wife has been a resident at the home for approximately eight years. During that time, she has received excellent care through the different stages of her debilitating disease.
Now that she is receiving palliative care, that excellent standard continues from the dedicated staff. The carers, nursing
staff, kitchen staff, cleaners and the management team are really friendly and helpful.
The home itself is constantly having improvements carried out, so it feels welcoming and comfortable with
well-maintained surrounding grounds. Well done and thanks to all.

Staff were lovely, friendly, polite and available. Food was good with plenty of options for different portion sizes.
The two rooms used were clean and comfortable. Father-in-law had a bed extender provided to lengthen the bed and chair risers. The maintenance team also sorted out a raised toilet seat
and rails for both parents. The only downside to the room was the shower which didn't work for the 2 weeks my father-in-law was in respite.
There was a slight mishap at the end of respite care when some medications went missing but were eventually found so all good.
Reply from Ruth French, Director at Horkesley ManorThank you very much for taking the time to share your review with us. We are delighted you were so happy with the stay in general and in particular the staff, the food provided and the rooms. We have checked the shower of the room that you loved staying in and it is working without an issue. It may be due to preference that the larger communal wet room was used, where staff provided assistance. In regard to medication, we just wanted to confirm that medications were not missing, but a member of staff forgot to remove it from the trolley to send it home. We are pleased this was swiftly corrected and everything was resolved. We very much hope we can support further respite stays in the future!

Mum's room was very nicely provided with luxury curtains, a lamp and armchair with cushion. Regular single bed, not this bulky medical bed. On suite, very clean, the staff all appear very calm but competent and talk very politely to the residents. This is the Memory Dementia Hub which has an open kitchen
in the common room and relatives have the ability to make tea/coffee at any time. I like that the staff do not wear a uniform but have a name badge. Relaxed atmosphere, sense of calm and care. Food, meals, very good quality. Mum has gained weight back, cheerful and lots of smiles.

My lovely dad stayed at the nursing unit at Horkesley Manor for the last ten weeks of his life. The staff at the home were supportive of Dad, prioritising his social and emotional wellbeing, as well as his physical care. His vegetarian diet was well catered for, and the domestic team kept his room clean
and hygienic. Care staff and nurses were kind, considerate, and responsive both to Dad and to us as his family. We always felt welcome and respected by the team and enjoyed the lovely grounds with Dad as well as the gorgeous conservatory and front lounge. Dad enjoyed watching the birds feeding on the table outside of his window and always said that he felt safe. He came to call Horkesley Manor his home within a very short time. My family are very grateful for the care and consideration shown to Dad over his final weeks, and to us after his sad passing. If Dad had to spend his time in nursing care, then we are glad that it was with the Horkesley Manor team.

My dad only had a short time with you after being fast-tracked for palliative care from hospital but that short time saw him receive the love, care, support and attention he deserved. He was treated with so much respect, he was treated like you would your own.
Even had my dad up and out of bed on
a couple of occasions which he obviously enjoyed as he would eat not much but enough. The care was not only for Dad but for us as his family too and for that I am truly grateful. I felt reassured he was being looked after when I couldn't be there. Even at the end he was treated lovingly. The honoured guard as he left was a fitting end for a wonderful man. We can't thank you and your staff enough for being so marvellous. They feel the loss too so you know your loved one was loved.

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.684 for Horkesley Manor is calculated as follows: ( (166 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 209 Ratings = 4.684
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Horkesley Manor is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 73 registered maximum number of service users is 14.6, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
