Brilliant home, a homely atmosphere. Our relative has been here for nearly three years and is happy living here. Staff good and activities are good and residents are treated well.

My sister stayed at Great Horkesley Manor for eleven nights of respite care in March 2022. This was the first time she had received respite care and, overall, I was very pleased with the care she received. My sister stayed in the dementia unit. She does not have dementia but has suffered a brain injury
and requires secure accommodation. I visited twice during her stay and she seemed happy on both occasions.
The staff were very caring and there appeared to be plenty of activities during the week. My sister had no complaints at all. Her room was basic, but adequate, with an en-suite bathroom. The main living area where the residents were was large, airy and light and I liked the way the residents congregated there, rather than staying in their own rooms. We felt happy to leave my sister at this home and it gave the rest of the family a well-needed break. We would use this respite care service again.
Reply from Jill Sleeper, Home Manager at Horkesley ManorThank you for your kind comments. We look forward to meeting you all again soon. I will pass your lovely feedback on to the staff team.

You looked after my mum so l could have some respite. All the staff were so caring, warm and welcoming.
I could relax as I had daily updates and photos of Mum sent to me by the activity coordinator. Mum had all the attention that she craves, everything from crafting, dancing, playing the piano, dominoes
and even pygmy goats!
I knew that everyone at Great Horkesley Manor would take such good care of her, so never worried. She had baths, makeup and everything she needed. I will certainly take Mum there for respite again. She cannot wait for her next holiday.
Such an amazing place and could not fault it.
It's one in a million, we looked at many other places that came nowhere near. We cannot thank them enough.

Due to the Covid lockdown, indoor experience of care home has been limited, but access was increased on the 12th April - all staff have been informative and kind under difficult circumstances - important medical and social information is notified to us straight away. We are very happy with our mother-in-law's
care at the moment.

My mother had been a resident at Great Horkesley Manor for the past 2 years, she sadly has suffered with dementia for several years and recently passed away. Mum's care at Great Horkesley Manor has always been excellent. It is a super team of management, carers and support staff, in particular, the
brilliant activity co-ordinators. Mum has been cared for with dignity and respect. I would have no hesitation in recommending Great Horkesley Manor for care of people suffering from dementia.

It was the hardest decision of our lives as Mum never wanted to go into a care home, but unfortunately, we had no other choice as it was unsafe to leave Mum either with us or at home due to her dementia. Great Horkesley Manor has made her welcome, and it has now been 4 weeks since arriving there; the
staff have been lovely, and it’s like she has always been there. I would like to say a huge thank you for the hard work the care workers do and for making it such an easy transition.
Reply from The Home Manager, Home Manager at Horkesley ManorMany thanks for your comments.

I and my family find the care and attention given to my husband extremely good. The staff are very friendly and treat all the residents in Chestnut with the same care and attention as my husband receives. The home is kept immaculate and the food of good quality. My husband has been a resident for 3
years and we found these experiences from the outset.

My review is based on a very short time just before lockdown. I was delighted at the condition of residents bedrooms they were so bright and cheerful and beautifully clean. The shared space was also clean and of a very good standard. The staff are friendly and very communicative. Always share news about
my aunt when needed. Very happy with this home.

Our Mum suffered a stroke at 96 after living a very independent life. We chose Great Horkesley Manor because of recommendations of other friends and family that were residents there. Throughout the 9 months she was there before she passed away in January, the Staff were always so kind, caring and loving
towards her. She was very happy being there and always commented on how lovely the Staff were to her. Towards the end of her life when she was bed bound and needed more attention, the Staff spent so much time with her, making sure she was comfortable and peaceful. They supported my Brother and I also and always tried to lift our spirits on difficult days with a laugh and joke.

My grandpa has been living here for three months and I can see that he is very happy here. The staff have been a great help to my grandpa and have dealt with any problems that he may have excellently. The home itself is a wonderful place for my grandpa to be and he is able to take part in a variety
of activities which I can see makes him very happy. My grandpa's room is very homely and a great size for him to have all his items and memories in. In addition to this, the value for money is excellent.

Our mum was a resident of Great Horkesley Manor for over 22 years from 1996 until her death in October of 2018. From mid-September to mid-October of 2018, I was with her for six hours a day, which gave me a real window into how daily life unfolds.
The care, kindness and love which mum received from
the staff was outstanding throughout the years which she spent there. Initially, she was quite difficult but gradually she became gracious and appreciative.
Her passing was dignified and peaceful.
During my month with mum, I was particularly struck by the patience and gentleness which the staff demonstrated towards the more difficult residents.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.659)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.659) out of 10 for Horkesley Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.684 for Horkesley Manor is calculated as follows: ( (182 Excellents x 5) + (37 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 231 Ratings = 4.684
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Horkesley Manor is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 73 registered maximum number of service users is 14.6, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
