My lovely dad stayed at the nursing unit at Horkesley Manor for the last ten weeks of his life. The staff at the home were supportive of Dad, prioritising his social and emotional wellbeing, as well as his physical care. His vegetarian diet was well catered for, and the domestic team kept his room clean
and hygienic. Care staff and nurses were kind, considerate, and responsive both to Dad and to us as his family. We always felt welcome and respected by the team and enjoyed the lovely grounds with Dad as well as the gorgeous conservatory and front lounge. Dad enjoyed watching the birds feeding on the table outside of his window and always said that he felt safe. He came to call Horkesley Manor his home within a very short time. My family are very grateful for the care and consideration shown to Dad over his final weeks, and to us after his sad passing. If Dad had to spend his time in nursing care, then we are glad that it was with the Horkesley Manor team.

My dad only had a short time with you after being fast-tracked for palliative care from hospital but that short time saw him receive the love, care, support and attention he deserved. He was treated with so much respect, he was treated like you would your own.
Even had my dad up and out of bed on
a couple of occasions which he obviously enjoyed as he would eat not much but enough. The care was not only for Dad but for us as his family too and for that I am truly grateful. I felt reassured he was being looked after when I couldn't be there. Even at the end he was treated lovingly. The honoured guard as he left was a fitting end for a wonderful man. We can't thank you and your staff enough for being so marvellous. They feel the loss too so you know your loved one was loved.

Firstly, a great big thank you to all the staff at Horkesley Manor, they make it look easy but I know it isn’t!
This is the second time that we’ve used their respite service and I can’t fault them. They’re very lucky to have such a beautiful home, away from the hustle and bustle of town and yet on
a regular bus route, not having my own transport this is invaluable.
My step-grandmother seems to really enjoy her stay here and it gives the family some time to recharge our own batteries.
There’s always something going on to make the residents feel completely at home and make new friends.
Reply from Eve Fynn, Marketing and Communications Lead at Horkesley ManorWhat an incredible review! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. The team at Horkesley Manor will be overjoyed to hear your wonderful comments. A warm and welcoming atmosphere, with caring and dedicated staff, who looked after my mother exceptionally well.
Mum ate well and thoroughly enjoyed the social aspects of the home.
A real home from home.
Well done and thank you.

We were so happy to find Horkesley Manor for our mum. She had been living there for 2 and a half years before her death. She was so well looked after and was always busy with activities. I cannot fault the staff from the cleaners to the senior carers. She was able to make a great friend which was lovely
for us to know she wasn’t lonely. I will recommend the home to anyone who is looking for somewhere for their family member.

My mother arrived after previous neglect by a hospital. Horkesley Manor provided first-class care and compassion, firstly to treat her multiple conditions and later to administer end-of-life care.
All staff show visitors politeness and courtesy. The facilities are clean and immaculate, with good potential
for patient enrichment. An excellent provider.

When my husband arrived at the Aspen Centre the staff were very welcoming. He built up a good relationship with both male and female carers.
In August, he celebrated his birthday. The staff decorated the family room, his grandchildren came to visit and left with some lovely memories of that day. There
was a birthday tea for everyone. The chef made a birthday cake and everyone sang Happy Birthday. It was clear that my husband enjoyed all the fuss. One carer found out that he enjoyed listening to a Welsh singer, so he found the songs online and they had an unforgettable evening together.
My husband’s stay at Horkesley Manor was sadly brief as he passed away seven weeks after he arrived. Our three adult children and I spent the last three days with him. The staff were kind, offering us cups of tea and something to eat and giving us time to grieve together. Thank you to everyone who cared for him. We greatly appreciate the care and compassion that you showed him.

The staff at Horksley Manor are amazing and caring, and this is part of the culture.
I have only ever heard of the residents being treated with high levels of respect and kindness.
It is very well-run and well-staffed.
My mum is in Aspen Lodge, the part of the home which looks after residents with
dementia, and she is so well looked after. It is calm, homely and genuine.
It's a very difficult time for the family, especially Mum, and this has been like a port in a storm.

Thank you for looking after our father in his final days. It meant so much to us to know that he was in such a lovely place, being cared for by lovely staff. His room was bright and sunny, and it was super to see the birds come to the feeder on the window, as he loved to watch them.

My mother moved into Horkesley Manor in June this year originally for respite care and is now a permanent resident in the newly opened Aspen Memory Centre. The home has been recently refurbished and is in a beautiful woodland location. The facilities at Horkesley Manor are excellent, the staff and
management are consistently responsive and upbeat and you feel they really care for the residents. The home is spotlessly clean, the food is good and plentiful and the decor is bright and modern. The nursing staff are on hand to provide the medical care my mother requires and always keep me updated with any issues. Would definitely recommend Horkesley Manor.

I have nothing but praise for Horkesley Manor. We’ve had an excellent experience all round and so much support, involvement and helpful communication during a ridiculously difficult time. My father has seen a few care homes for respite care and they have not been good experiences. This is the first
place he’s been happy in and he has settled so well, mainly due to the excellent staff and accessible facilities that suit his needs perfectly.

My mother has been a resident at Horkesley Manor for seven years, now aged 103. The staff are very attentive to her extensive needs resulting from advanced dementia, little mobility and extreme deafness. They keep me fully informed regarding her well-being, and medical support is immediately sought
for the occasional minor condition that occurs. The recent change in ownership and management at Horkesley Manor has been a positive transition, with an enhanced level of communication on the running of the home and future plans, and retention of key staff members caring for my mother.

The home has improved a great deal since the change of ownership. There are more staff, it is cleaner and there is obviously substantial investment taking place throughout the premises.
Mum now has a much nicer and bigger room (although it needs decorating) and she says that the food has got better.
It
would be nice if more was made of the gardens and outside spaces which have been badly neglected in recent years and could be fantastic places for residents and visitors to spend time.
Overall, the home has a more professional feel to it and feels much better run.

It is great to know that you feel the home has improved since we took over at the end of last year and that you are recognising the positive changes we are making. We recently employed a new gardener who is doing an outstanding job and won ‘Employee of the Month’ at Horkesley Manor in April, so it won’t be long until residents can begin to enjoy the beautiful grounds again. Best wishes.

In general, the care home itself is in great need of maintenance. My mother is very well looked after by the wonderful care and nursing staff and her needs and health conditions are understood and managed very well. Thank you. The chefs and catering staff are very helpful and kind. The food is very
good but needs to be cut into smaller pieces with a plate guard for my mother's arthritic hands and frail teeth to cope with more easily. There is not enough mental and physical activity for my mother. There needs to be singing and entertainment with singers, and dog petting days to brighten her life more. Simple and easy entertainment for a very elderly person. I look forward to learning about the care home bringing these activities back to the home.
I feel very welcomed and listened to by the staff at Great Horkesley Manor. I am in awe and applaud their incredible caring skills with the residents. Bless you and thank you, you know who you all are.
Reply from Ruth French, Director at Horkesley ManorThank you for taking the time to submit a review, your feedback is very important to us. We are delighted to hear how pleased you are with the level of care your mother is receiving at Horkesley Manor and that you find the home to be welcoming. Since Stow Healthcare taking over last Autumn you will have noticed many changes beginning to take shape, with a massive financial investment in the home, such as multiple new bathrooms, many renovated bedrooms and stunning new communal spaces that will be launched in May this year. We have recruited new activity team members who are working on a new programme to provide a variety of activities across the summer. If there is something in particular that your mother would enjoy participating in, please speak to the home management team who will be happy to help. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 73 registered maximum number of service users is 14.6, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
