After pre-conceptions of a care home, Oakley have been outstanding with how they have welcomed my mother-in-law in. The every day care staff leave her wanting for nothing but what stands out the most is the entertainment officer and the home manager who just put so much into what the residents get extra.
Their Christmas efforts take me back as they have set up a cardboard fireplace and a shopping trolley that is a sleigh. This extra step just makes the home so welcoming.

I know that I have ticked excellent on all counts, but this care home really is excellent. Kind, thoughtful caring staff, always looked after Mum's needs, efficiently and right to the end of her 105 years with dignity. Were always willing (both staff and management) to go the extra mile.

Okeley has been a Godsend for my family, my Dad has been a resident for about 9 months and I have only experienced good things here. Staff are professional but friendly, they speak with my mum every day when she calls. Food is excellent and I sometimes join my dad for breakfast, we are always welcome.
My
Mum says when she cannot look after herself anymore she is going in Okeley. The manager takes a personal interest in all the residents and their families, she knows me and my brother and who are Dad is and what he has been doing.
We can attend the events they have for the residents, Elvis impersonator and many other music events, summer events in the gardens.
I cannot speak highly enough of Okeley and the people there.
Reply from Shoenagh Mackay, Manager at Okeley Care HomeThank you - glad you like the breakfast, nothing like a good breakfast to start the day off, and we are delighted to support the family.

I live in Australia so obviously have worries about my mum's health and care. I have flown home after a 4-week stay and have to say I am extremely happy with the level of care and commitment Okeley Care Home has shown mum, I am extremely confident mum will pass her final years with much love in this
home. The staff are extremely professional and it has taken a lot of stress off the shoulders of myself, my sister in the US and our younger sister.
Highly recommended by all in our family. Thank you Team Okeley.

This is an excellent care home with great leadership and fantastic staff. The quality and duration of my grandmother's life was extended due to their compassion, care and consideration. The staff were very supportive and always went the extra mile to provide the care that Nan needed in her later years.
The range of activities and the homely feel that the care home had meant that Nan was always comfortable and knew, despite dementia, where she was and who her carers were.
Nan passed last week, but I remain very grateful for the dedication shown by the staff in what can be a challenging environment to work. I would recommend the home to anyone who is considering the next steps in respect to continuing care for loved ones. The staff undertake a personal home visit and arrange introductory visits so that potential residents can make informed decisions as to whether the home and facilities are right for them. Nan stayed six years and I know she was very much at home at Okeley.

The care of my dad was overall generally very good. There were a couple of incidents which were unfortunate and were well documented at the time. As a family, we all thought the staff were brilliant are dedicated.
A shame there is a large turnover of staff as good people left. I certainly felt comfortable
to sit and stay there visiting as long as I liked. Always a friendly atmosphere. They all deserve a pay rise.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.744)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.744) out of 10 for Okeley Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 46 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.744 for Okeley Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (425 Excellents x 5) + (106 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 547 Ratings = 4.744
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Okeley Care Home is based on 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 84 registered maximum number of service users is 16.8, which has been reached with 45 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2020

I joined Excelcare in 2016 after having been with my previous care provider for 16 years and wanting to develop my career further. I started at Sweyne Court in Rayleigh where I stayed for four years. Then in 2020, the Home Manager role became available at Okeley, and I was ready for the new challenge whilst staying with Excelcare, where I love working. It was the perfect opportunity.

I enjoy making people happy and comfortable and creating
memorable moments that the people living with us can enjoy and reminisce about. It is so wonderful seeing people previously isolated become social butterflies and make new friends.

The team are kind, caring and compassionate and puts the people living at Okeley first. They are keen and willing to learn, and I hear many positive comments about them from the residents and their loved ones. I am so proud to be part of the Okeley family
