My mum has been in here since february. Everyone we meet has always treated mum with kindness, respect, and the level of love and care she receives is Amazing. They all love her hug her and will go out of their way to make sure she is the happiest she can be. As a family we just wanted mum to be somewhere that she was loved and cared for as much as we did, and the staff have never faulted.

My family and I travelled from Lincoln, we arrived at the home to be welcomed by staff. All the staff were very polite, happy and helpful, all areas of the home were immaculate We had booked in for lunch and a table was set for us all in the front cafe. We all enjoyed a nutritious lunch. After lunch we went for a walk around the grounds which again were well maintained. All in all we are delighted with how mum has settled.

Thank you everyone!

My experience at The New Deanery have not been to a care home before, soon as I wentie in all the staff made me welcome all very friendly and the residence I spoke to said they like the staff as they treat them all the same. It was nice to feel the atmosphere was nice and carmen. While I was there I did singing and exercise. I though it was very good I live on my own so it was good for me to talk. I was born in Dorset brought up in Shropshire, came to Essex as a nanny 60 years ago they love it.

Visited for my grandads 100th birthday party. Room, facilities, food and carers were excellent. My grandad had a great time and was the next best thing to having it at home. I feel happy my grandad is safe and well looked after.

My father was admitted to The New Deanery after a bad fall which left him virtually imobile. He was just short of his 100th birthday and up until this time looked after himself at home. I cannot believe how well he has been looked after from senior management right through all the staff to the housekeepers with no exception and the home is spotlessly clean everywhere we are now 7 weeks down the line father has agreed to become a resident thankfully. He has said it would be a job to kind fault and that 'he feels safe here'.

My mum was a resident in the New Deanery for nearly 2 years until she died from dementia in February 2026. I can't praise the home and its staff highly enough for the way they looked after my mum. They became my mums second family and cared for he so well, going above and beyond. I could tell that she was loved by many of them . As relatives you also become part of their family and they look after you as much as the resident. This was particularly evident when my mother was end of life when they gave me great support and comfort. My family and I were also very touched that some of mums carers attended her funeral.
The home was always spotlessly clean and smelled fresh whenever I visited, all of the staff were very friendly and always said hello and had time for a chat. The food was great too. Mums room was lovely light and airy and spacious , looking over the gardens, which are lovely to walk around.

New Deanery gave me the peace of mind that mum was cared for when I was not there

My late mother died in December at The New Deanery right up to the end of her life she had excellant care and compassion. She was treated with respect and kindness. Both my in -laws have settled in very well. All staff, friendly and approachable. Nothing is too much trouble. Super home from home cooked meals, all their needs are catered for. Trips out available of which my in- laws enjoyed a recent trip to the pub. Mother in -law has enjoyed being pampered with weekly visits to the hair salon within the home. Options for other agencies to come into The New Deanery eg chiropodist are available too.

My husband was in the new deanery for one week respite whilst I was in hospital. The staff were very friendly and cheerful and couldn't do enough to help. My husband enjoyed his stay and talked about football nonstop which is his real love (after me)!! It was like a holiday for him, the food was very good (delicious). He will be back in the future as he loves going there. I was very happy to leave him there as I knew he would be cared for.

Rachel MarlowJob Title:Care Home ManagerJoined: 1999

Rachel has worked at The New Deanery for over 25 years, starting as a Care Assistant and progressing her career with various promotions as Senior Carer, Team Leader, Deputy and eventually Home Manager.

Rachel's dedication and commitment to The New Deanery are very special indeed, and her passion for her residents and staff can be seen in everything she does. Having constant leadership has led others at the New Deanery to follow in her footsteps and progress their careers at the home, which in turn ensures our residents have a stable and consistent team to care for them.

When asked why she chose a career in care, she said, 'I just wanted to make a difference in the lives of the elderly.' We can certainly say she has done that and more in her quarter-century of caring for those living and working at The New Deanery.

Outside of work, Rachel is an avid cricket fan and enjoys travelling with her family and friends (but not her two furry friends, her cats Oscar and Smudge!).
