My aunt has been a resident since August 2025 and has settled in really well. The staff are amazing and she has gained in confidence since she moved in from living on her own for 2 years after her husband passed away. The level of care and support is a credit to all the staff. There are plenty of activities
organised and trips out, which residents can participate in or not whatever they choose. The facilities and garden area are all well maintained and provide a safe environment for all.

I cannot thank the team enough for the way they've embraced my nan. They don't just "care" for her; they treat her like family. Nothing is too much trouble, they have taken her on wonderful days out into the community, they always put her needs first. Every time I drop by, usually unannounced, the home
is always clean and well presented. It is such a comfort to know she is in such kind, capable hands.

Both my sister and I would like to thank all the amazing staff at Old Shenfield Place (OSP) for caring for our lovely mum and dad in the most kind, caring and respectful way.
We could not have wished for a better place for mum and dad to see out their final years. We cannot thank you enough for all
the wonderful photos you have shared of mum and dad taking part in the activities and trips out. These photos will always be cherished by us.
Mum came to love the large tv lounge. Whilst we are heartbroken that our dear mum is sadly no longer with us, we have comfort knowing that she fell asleep in her lovely cosy room with familiar faces close by.
OSP and the residents have become an extended family to us and we will so miss visiting you on a regular basis.
Reply from Kate Wyatt, Group Community Engagement Manager at Old Shenfield PlaceThank you so much for your incredibly kind and thoughtful review. Your words truly means a great deal to everyone at Old Shenfield Place.

It was an absolute privilege to care for your mum and dad, and to share in their lives with you. Your mum was a very special lady, and it brings us peace to know she found happiness here, enjoying the lounge she loved so much. We are thankful that you take comfort, in knowing she fell asleep in her cosy room, surrounded by familiar faces who cared for her deeply.

We are honoured that you felt Old Shenfield Place became an extended family. You and your family have been a valued part of our community, and you will be greatly missed by residents and staff alike. Please know that your mum and dad will always be remembered with warmth and affection here.

I'm so glad we found Old Shenfield Place for mum. After being discharged from hospital she was moved to a temporary care home which was not a great place. If you don't think there's much difference between care homes, believe me there is! Cristina and the team are absolutely wonderful and nothing is
too much for them. They genuinely treat the residents like a family and get to know them as individuals, quirks and all! Everyone gets treated with dignity and sometimes it's the little touches that make a huge difference.
The staff are polite, friendly, knowledgeable and seem like they want to be there, which I think stems from Cristina's positive energy.
They have an in-house activities co-ordinator and every time we visit something is going on, from quizzes to painting to visits from local nursery children.
I live 150 miles away and knowing that mum is safe and well looked after here is a huge relief.
Reply from Kate Wyatt, Group Community Engagement Manager at Old Shenfield PlaceThank you so much for such a warm and thoughtful review. We're incredibly pleased that you found Old Shenfield Place at a time when you needed reassurance for your mum, and that the difference in care has been so clear.
Your comments about Cristina and the team truly reflect what we strive for every day. Treating residents like family, taking time to understand each person as an individual and ensuring everyone is treated with dignity are values we hold very close. It's especially lovely to hear how much Cristina's positive energy and the genuine kindness of the team have meant to you.
We're also delighted that you've noticed the range of activities taking place. Our activities team work hard to ensure there's always something engaging and joyful happening.
Living 150 miles away is never easy, so knowing your mum is safe, comfortable and well cared for is exactly the peace of mind we hope to give families. Thank you again for your trust, it truly means a great deal to us all.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.984)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.984) out of 10 for Old Shenfield Place is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 41 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 41 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.984 for Old Shenfield Place is calculated as follows: ( (484 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 492 Ratings = 4.984
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Old Shenfield Place is based on 41 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 31 registered maximum number of service users is 6.2, which has been reached with 41 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I began my career in care in 2008 as a care assistant. From then on I knew this was the career for me - I just love working with the elderly. My Health and Social Care in Leadership and Management qualification has supported me with my career progression and I am so pleased to be using my experience at Old Shenfield Place.

I love to listen to people, and I feel this is the way you make a real difference. I strive to provide high-quality care and ensure all of our residents receive personalised care in a warm and welcoming environment.

There is such a lovely care team at Old Shenfield, with many of the team having worked here for many many years. I look forward to my future here and to meeting residents and their families. Pop in for a cup of tea to meet me soon!
